LOCAL EVENTS M. L. Rogers was in town this week from San Francisco. Bobby Rimpau has taken a position at Wallace's grocery. Bowman Merritt has taken a position at Hatzfeld's drug store. George Miles and family are spending several weeks at Bay City. P. H. Krick, L. E. Miller and B. V. Beebe were visitors in Los Angeles on Monday. Miss Nellie Darling has returned from a visit of several weeks with relatives at Ontario. Oscar Renner and family are at Wheelers Springs, Ventura county, for an outing of several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Welborn Wallop and Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Hatzfeld spent several days the past week at Coronado. Wagon-loads of melons are being brought into town. Melons and fruit have been high, but lower prices are ruling. Capt. Williams, Mr. and Mrs. S. M. and Miss Kathryn Hayden drove to Laguna on Friday in the Captain's auto. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Scott and their daughter and granddaughter are enjoying an outing at Coronado Tent City. Miss Emma Miller of San Jose, and Mrs. W. S. Wansley of Sherman have returned home after a short visit in Anaheim. Mrs. J. B. Rea returned the first of the week from a fortnight's outing at Laguna. Mrs. Richardson and her two daughters, Misses Iza and Helen, and the Misses Kate Rea, Lillie Zeus, Edna Lyon, Violet Nebelung and Emma at two women on horseback and to run. Hart and Miss Diedrich departed on Tuesday for San Diego, where Mrs. Hart will remain several months for the benefit of her health. She has been a sufferer from rheumatism, and while in San Diego will consult a specialist in order to get relief. Mr. Hart returned yesterday. Mrs. Stapper of Los Angeles and her daughter, Mrs. L. Colladay and child of Northwest Canada, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Helmsen on Sunday. They were driven in Mr. Helmsen's auto through Placentia and other points of interest on Sunday afternoon. Prof. Sisson of the Santa Ana business college is at a Los Angeles hospital, where he was some days ago operated upon for appendicitis. Prof. Sisson a year ago underwent a similar operation and now finds it necessary to again submit to the surgeon's knife. His condition is reported favorable, and it is hoped he will soon be able to return to his business duties. Miss Matilda Roedick and Mrs. Geo. Schroeder of Orange, sisters of Mrs. Bruce Anson of this city, were the victims of a disastrous runaway late Saturday afternoon. The women were Miss L. L.
