MONEY TO BE COLLECTED
A meeting of the executive committee of the Semi-Centennial Celebration was held at Odd Fellows' hall on Tuesday evening, when after a lengthy discussion it was resolved to proceed immediately to collect moneys subscribed for the celebration and proceed with the work of making final preparations for the same.
Richard Melrose presided, and Otto Storm acted as secretary.
Mr. Dickel reported, as chairman of the finance committee, that a widespread lack of enthusiasm existed on the part of the citizens toward the celebration, and he was almost persuaded to give the matter up himself.
It was not so much a question of money as a popular interest in the celebration that was lacking. He had heard it said that some people averred no celebration should be had because the town has nothing to show for its fifty years of existence.
Mr. Melrose vigorously protested against such statements, which he said he had heard about in common with Mr. Dickel. He said Anaheim had done much as the pioneer in the work of showing the capabilities of Southern California. Even if we had no skyscrapers, the fifth anniversary of the founding of the town should be celebrated for the great work of the Wm. Falkenstein and Mr. offered suggestions pertinent subject.
When it seemed the matter was entirely dropped, Mr. Dickel argued that if those present desired could yet resolve to hold the cation, and have a good one.
A vote was taken, which re-For holding the celebration, 15; 2.

A committee consisting of H. A. el, H. M. Adams and H. Stern pointed to secure the services o to collect all moneys subscribed celebration. This amount $1000.
Otto Storm was elected treasurer.
The meeting adjourned five weeks, when final preparations celebration, which occurs Sept be made.

Mr. Melrose vigorously protested against such statements, which he said he had heard about in common with Mr. Dickel. He said Anaheim had done much as the pioneer in the work of showing the capabilities of Southern California. Even if we had no sky-scrapers, the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the town should be celebrated for the great work of the pioneers. However he had met with a lukewarm and listless spirit toward the celebration, and if the others were willing he was prepared to drop it.
H. M. Adams, speaking of the meeting of the Merchants and Manufacturers association, said that body had taken a vote on the celebration at its last meeting, which resulted 10 for holding the blowout and 8 against it. He found a notable apathy on the part of those with whom he came in contact regarding the celebration.
I. Asher offered several suggestions about the feeling of the people toward the celebration. Personally he had always favored it, and was sorry to see the celebration abandoned.

Enjoy Outing at Tent City—Guests of Mrs. Katherine Tingley at Lomafand—Inspect Fortifications—See Bullfight.
Members of the Southern California Editorial association spent several days the past week as guests of the management of Tent City and the San Diego chamber of commerce. The party contained 300 people, the same being the largest attendance ever assembled at a meeting of the association, and the meeting being in many ways the most enjoyable in its history. Three times in twenty years has the association visited San Diego and Coronado, and on each occasion the rural moulders of public opinion have on their return home dragged lengthening chains behind them from the loveliest spot on earth.

in twenty years has the association visited San Diego and Coronado, and on each occasion the rural moulders of public opinion have on their return home dragged lengthening chains behind them from the loveliest spot on earth.
Tent City occupies the narrow peninsula separating the placid waters of the bay from the Pacific. One is carried to the water's edge on the main land, when he is ferried across a mile of intervening water dotted with the white sails of commerce and of pleasure craft. On the other side he takes an electric car and is whirled down palm-lined avenues, with flowers, shrubbery and paved walks everywhere until, two miles further on, he catches a glimpse of the lawn-encircled Hotel del Coronado sitting, like the ancestral castle of some oriental potentate, at the very edge of the ocean. Bright flowers, trees and verdure are everywhere apparent. Birds sing in the treetops. The waves ebb and flow to the line of verdure surrounding the hotel on the west. The east and north elevations front magnificent lawns and gardens of flowers.
Three carloads of editors swept by the hotel, catching their first view of their oldtime favorite watering place, and proceeding along a palm-lined avenue extending several miles to the eastward, and skirting the ocean's edge, came finally to their destination, Tent City, loveliest of western watering places.
Manager Hammond of Tent City had been taken seriously ill and had to be removed to a hospital. The editors had not the pleasure of meeting him, but his place was admirably filled by Edwin A. Thill, who cared for the comforts of the association most admirably. Indeed, everyone at Tent City seemed to resolve himself and herself into committees of one to see to it that nothing was left undone for the comfort of their guests. The result could not have been other than most pleasing to the bucolic statesmen.

The trip to San Diego was made over the Santa Fe, which is engaged in relaying its tracks in Southern California with 85-pound rails. The roadbed is being finely ballasted, and the result is that the most admirable track in the state is now laid. The trip over the road was by courtesy of John J. Byrne, general passenger agent of the company. Traveling Passenger Agent Harold Moore was in charge of the party, and filled the role of guide, counsellor and friend to the editors. Mr. Moore was once in the newspaper business, but has long since reformed. He still retains all the attributes of the profession. He can sing a song, tell a funny story, stay up later and get up earlier than any man in the business. First he was telling a bunch of editors how to keep out of deep water in the plunge, and next was quietly coaching others not to bring contumely upon the party by drinking out of the finger bowls. He taught the editors how to give the high sign, the sign of distress and assisted in initiating the whole party into the ancient and honorable order of Milkum and Squeeznm. Welcome to our city!
One of the irrepressibles whose expulsion from the fraternity was for some time under discussion was Roaring Bill Smith of Whittier, whose stentor-
