YORBA DAM UP 20 FEET Sluicing Operations Progressing Favorably—Large Engine and Pump to Be Installed this Week By force of gravity and hydraulic pressure the dam at the Yorba reservoir is steadily rising upward until at present it has reached the twenty-foot mark. It will rise to a height of fifty feet, when it will impound fifty odd million cubic feet of water, sufficient to supply the needs of Southside irrigators during the entire summer's irrigating season. The reservoir nestles in the foothills at Yorba, the county road skirting around its base. Near by is the townsite of Richfield, which is being subdivided into ten acres lots and will shortly be placed upon the market. Two miles to the southward is the willow-fringed Anabeim ditch which has supplied the colony with water for irrigation for fifty years. This old-timer the reservoir will put out of commission. The retirement of the old ditch, which is five miles in length, will effect a saving of 150 inches of water daily, and the reservoir will obviate the necessity for bringing the water over a rickety flume which is and was for years been ready to go to pieces. To rebuild this flume would have cost $5000. The vitrified pipe is now laid a distance of a mile or more from the reservoir, and by another month it will TEL. The work is under personal supervision of Engineer H. C. Kellogg, who drew the plans and specifications for the reservoir several years ago. The construction of this great work has been a dream of Mr. Kellogg for twenty years. The practical value of the site for reservoir purposes has been endorsed by hydraulic engineers eminent in the calling, including James D. Schuyler and others. Mr. Kellogg was first to see the possibilities of the enterprise, however, and it has been left for him to put the project under way. He says he will have it completed in sixty days. In another month it will be constructed far enough to permit water to flow to southside irrigators. Sluicing operations will continue by gravity for ten days or two weeks longer, when water will be raised by pumping in order to clear the top of the dam. An 80-horse power engine will be installed this week, when pumping operations will begin. A gasoline engine operating a series of tram cars running upon rails laid upon the crest of the dam adds to the effectiveness of the work. These cars are used to dump earth on low places along the crest, so that the structure may rise evenly at all points. Duckworth, charging desertion and an intrigue to defraud her of support and a share of property owned jointly by her and her husband. An injunction has been issued restraining the sale of some $17,000 worth of property in this county. The complaint declares that Mary Edna Duckworth and Guy L. Duckworth were married on August 3, 1904. On February 8, 1907, it is claimed the wife was induced to go to the home of her parents in Pasadena, the husband saying that he would take a vacation in the mountains. On March 23d a baby was born to Mrs. Duckworth. Mrs. Duckworth declares that all efforts to discover the whereabouts of her husband have failed, and she charges that her father-in-law is trying at this time to conceal from her all facts concerning him, and that he is attempting to sell property with the end in view of defrauding her of rightful support and share. Mrs. Duckworth states that the store and blacksmithing business carried on by J. W. Duckworth & Son was worth $6000, real estate worth $10,500 and household furniture worth $500 are concerned. Judgment is asked for an order making void the sale of the business, for $75 a month permanent alimony. Ager interest by all.
