Kelso Mining and Milling Co. The property of the Kelso Mining and Milling company is situated in the Gold Belt and Mid Hills districts, Providence mountains, San Bernardino county, California. The camp is six miles from Hayden on the Salt Lake railroad, and nine miles from Kelso. The altitude of the camp is about four thousand feet, nearly two thousand feet above the railroad, with a gradual down-grade from the camp to Hayden, where it is purposed to build the company's warehouses. The road is remarkably good, being constructed of decomposed granite, which packs to the consistency of macadam, thus making ideal facilities for teaming. The country lying between the railroad and the camp is of such a nature that a spur can be constructed at a very little expense, should need for such arise. Ore can be hauled to the railroad at slight cost, should the company decide to ship to the smelters either at Salt Lake City or Needles before building a mill or smelter on the property. The development of the various claims owned by the company consists of about two hundred and sixty-five feet of tunnels, and in the neighborhood of four hundred feet of shaft work. Running across the full length of the "Saddle Rock" and "Cornucopia" claims is a ledge from fifteen to thirty-five feet wide, continuous, strong and broken. Surface assays across this ledge show good value in gold and silver, while streaks from six inches to a foot wide run as high as three hundred dollars per ton. This vein runs along the top of a ridge, and the outcroppings can be plainly seen for a distance of half a mile, in places protruding from the surface of the ground as high as ten and fifteen feet, and showing perfect wall formation for the entire distance visible. On the Saddle Rock claim, a tunnel is being run from the side of the hill to tap this ledge at a depth of one hundred and twenty-five feet. Officers and Associates—John E. LOCAL PEOPLE VISIT THE MINE. Henry Adams and B.V. Beebe visited the mine some days ago and on their return make the statement that they saw led them to believe that a mine of immense richness had been discovered. "I dislike to say just what we saw," said Mr. Beebe, "for I am afraid you would not believe half of it. But it is certainly the richest mining enterprise I ever saw. Mr. Adams and myself made an investment in stock and are more than satisfied with it. There is a large amount of rich ore in sight, and I look for the property to develop into one of the richest mines in the country. Mr. Adams was also most favorably impressed with the mine, and pronounced it one of the richest ventures he had ever witnessed. Other Orange county residents have lately visited the mine and made investments. A more extended interview with them will appear in our next issue. S. Howard, nominee for township justice. He has filled the office during the past four years, and his friends submit the claim that he is really entitled to re-election. His single administration has been characterized by economy and the protection of the interests of the taxpayer, but as well in the enforcement of the penalties of the law against evil doers of high and low degree. The judge's decisions have been uniformly upheld by good citizens generally, and he is up for one of the largest votes on the ticket. The judge is not one of these fellows whom it takes a forty-foot pole to reach after the election. He is the same plain gentleman all the year round, and his popularity is attested by all. The fire although it was near a plentiful supply of water, could not be reached by hose, and the residents of the vicinity turned out and valiantly fought the fire, using buckets, pans and other kitchen utensils.
