CONRAD'S LIQUOR LICENSE TO BE REVOKED Unless He Moves His Establishment Inside Liquor Limits—Protest Filed The board of city trustees met in regular session on Tuesday evening; present, Trustees Rust, Darling, Kroeger, Stock and Fiscus. A numerously signed petition was received asking the board to revoke the wholesale liquor license granted at its previous meeting to F. Conrad on Adele street, between Los Angeles and Lemon. Messrs. Strodthoff, Mills and Krick for the petitioners were present and addressed the board, strongly urging the revocation of the license. The alleged winery is located in the residence district and was, they averred, a disgrace to the city. Mr. Krick said he watched the place for an hour one day, and judging from what he observed, he was convinced the layout was a "blind pig" of the worst kind. Marshal Steadman vouchsafed the information that last year Conrad received at his "winery" just one load of grapes and thirty barrels of whiskey! And Mr. Krick further remarked that he understood one barrel of whiskey wasange Grove tract. The same found printed in another column committee presented the following dinances for first reading: On No. 184, relating to the wide West Broadway; No. 185, sections 8½ and 8⅓ of Ordinaries pertaining to special permits sale of liquor. The rate applies nics held within the city limits placed at $25 per day. Petition of McCollum & Spain for permission to make change front of their property on the street. Granted. Application of Fidel Bushay dwelling on Vine street; cost Granted. Application of D. Silvernerect house on West Broadway $500. Granted. Resignation of C. Bruce as of public library board. Access A communication was received W. L. Porterfield of the Home phone company of Long Beachference to the company's interest shortly begin active operations improve their system. Clerk informed the board that the county taxes for its franchise arequent. The clerk was instruct notify company to remit at once feel its franchise. Residents at the corner of Br Los Angeles streets entered against the sign "Dumping G" as it there now appears, direct way to the garbage heap. So chievous person has been in the of moving the directing ha dence district and was, they averred, a disgrace to the city. Mr. Krick said he watched the place for an hour one day, and judging from what he observed, he was convinced the layout was a "blind pig" of the worst kind. Marshal Steadman vouchsafed the information that last year Conrad received at his "winery" just one load of grapes and thirty barrels of whiskey! And Mr. Krick further remarked that he understood one barrel of whiskey was good for five when "made over!" Other information was forthcoming alleging that the place was nothing but a "speakeasy." The petitioners were determined to have the place closed or removed, even if it took all summer. Trustees Darling and Fiscus were disposed not to deal hastily with the petition while Trustee Stock was desirous of revoking the license at once. As a compromise it was ordered that Conrad be granted the privilege of moving his wholesale establishment up town, within the retail liquor district, inside of thirty days. If not, his license would be revoked. After the motion was carried the petitioners thanked the board and departed, feeling that the days of the objectionable place were near at hand. Ordinance committee reported following ordinances for passage: Ordinance No. 181, providing for the issuance of $48,000 worth of municipal improvement bonds; No. 182, changing date of meeting of the board; No. 183, closing two certain alleys in the Or Cheapest Place to buy Mason Jars.
