Buena Park Large shipments of lumber are being received here, property owners are painting their premises and a general air of prosperity pervades the land. A large storage warehouse is soon to be built, the dimensions being 60 by 200 feet, the same to be used for storing hay. The capacity is 600 tons. Station Agent Kennedy is kept busy these days attending to his various railway duties. During the month of February there was an increase over the same month last year of 107,500 pounds of out tonnage. During the same month there was an increase of 195,000 pounds of in-tonnage over the corresponding month last year. Last month eleven carloads of hay was also shipped out. Miss Watt of San Francisco is visiting with Dr. Hasson’s family. The Throop polytechnic entertainment takes place at the school hall tomorrow evening. Miss Gersa Weber of Pasadena is visiting here, the guest of Mr. Wright’s family. A. L. Smith has bought Chas. C. Bell’s 6-room house and one acre of land; consideration, $1000. The deal was made by W. S. Taylor, who also sold two acres at Brookshurst to James H. Whitaker. A. L. Bennett reports the sale of 20 acres to Lycurgus Burns. George H. Warren has purchased realty south of here, in the vicinity of the electric railway. W. T. Callaway was kicked on his leg by his horse on Saturday. He was severely bruised, but is now on the mend. A. Nelson is constantly replenishing his lumber yard and reports business good. A Percheon stallion has been pur- acres to Lycurgus Burns. George H. A Percheon stallion has been purchased from Mr. Ferguson by a number of citizens of this community, the purchase price being $3600. Among the owners are Gus Hansen, Sam Winters, Jack Ivery, S. O. Walker, A. Lovitt, George Miller, John Martin, Mr. Stein and N. I. McKaughan. The latter gentleman was appointed keeper. On Monday the gentlemen composing the horse syndicate were entertained at dinner by Mr. Ferguson at the Park House. Mr. Field, who has been at Newport for some time past, returned to the Park Monday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Japs of Benedict visited on Sunday with Mr. Owens' family. Charley McKaughan is always busy in his blacksmith shop and finds time while shoeing horses to tell you the news of the day and quote prices on gilt-edged realty. Charley has the reputation of spotting a prospective buyer the distance of a city block. Huntington Beach Celery is not the only product raised in the peatlands. Mrs. Mary Bushard has a property in the lowlands near Huntington Beach, that embraces more than 150 acres. From this land last year sixty acres went to beets, fifty acres was planted to corn, alfalfa covered twenty-five acres, potatoes were planted on five acres, and Hubbard squashes were grown on seven acres. The total production of the sixty acres devoted to beets amounted to $6000. The corn yielded three tons to the acre or $75. Of the alfalfa six cuttings were made in the year, each cutting yielding from two and one-half to three tons per acre or $150. Of the potatoes there was 365 sacks to the acre that sold at from 75 cents to $1 a sack or $160 to the acre. The Hubbard squashes yielded at the rate of thirty tons to the acre and command a ready market at from $10 to $20 per ton. Allowing $6000 for the beets, $375 for corn, $75 for alfalfa, $1300 for potatoes and $2000 for grass. Huntington Beach will hold a celebration on May 1. Plans are already under way by which it is proposed to make the holiday one long to be remembered by those who will accept the hospitality of the citizens. Music, oratory, sports, contests and numerous other attractions are on the program. Prizes are to be given. One of these will be awarded to the young lady landing the largest fish from the pier. S. E. Talbert has sold twenty acres of celery land that lies in Talbert. Seven years ago Mr. Talbert bought this land for $40 per acre. The recent sale brought him $300 an acre and the adjoining land that sold for $30 commands a yearly rental now of $35. Last year this twenty acres returned profit to the owner of $100 to the acre. L. Walker has purchased from Walter Quick forty acres located a half mile west of Talbert. The stated consideration is $10,000. Mr. Walker is building a $2000 house. S. E. Talbert was thrown from his buggy into the ditch by the road on Thursday. Two of his ribs were cracked and his left hand was badly lacerated.
