The woman is a German, about 30 years old. Just now she is conducting a lodging-house on East Fifth street, not far from the Arcade station. According to the story recited by Mrs. Buss, she first met Wiesendanger last spring, when she was in charge of a rooming-house on Pico street. She declares that the real estate man aided her in getting a divorce from her husband. and that, after a short acquaintance, in which her new friend was extremely attentive, there came an understanding that they were to marry. No special date was set, she says, but it seemed to be agreed that the fall of the year would be the proper time. Just out of curiosity one day she says she looked up Wiesendanger's number in the telephone directory and found that he had not one but three or four. Calling one of these numbers, she was shocked, she asserts, to hear a feminine voice at the other end of the wire announce that she, the worker of the voice, was "Mrs. Wiesendanger," although the real estate man is not married. After this, Mrs. Buss said she called Wiesendanger to task and that he never called again.
