BUILDING UP THE
WHOLE COAST REGION.
All the Pacific Coast needs to increase in prosperity, population, and industry, is to make its resources known to all the world in the right way. The Pacific Coast will increase vastly within the next decade, and within a few decades will surely outstrip the Atlantic Coast in everything that goes to make up modern business and civilization. Doubtless in the Pacific States region, and at no distant date, the greatest Anglo-Saxon settlement that the world has ever known will have found an abiding place and scope for its indomitable energies. The supremacy of the commerce of the Pacific involves nothing detrimental to the prosperity of the Atlantic Coast, and indeed will accentuate the progress and that of the whole United States.
The way to present the resources of the Pacific Coast is to present them by absolute statements of fact, fair, just and impartial, nothing more, nothing less. This can only be accomplished through a harmonious feeling in the entire Pacific States region. Every locality must get its due and must obtain recognition from every other part of the Pacific States region. Jealous rivalry and a disposition to disparage one section of the coast to the booming of another section
tion will be the most representative poultry show ever given in history of the west. All seven California and the Pacific Coast be represented and everyone stand on an equal footing great poultry exhibition.
A meeting was held at the quarters of the California tion Committee on August which were present the relatives of seven different poultry societies in different parts state, as well as chambers merce and other improvement organizations interested in the opement of the poultry It was decided at the pre-meeting that a poultry show be held in San Francisco V December on a date not prefor local poultry organization that the whole state be taken an active part and made the most successful poultry ever given on the coast. Object of the exhibition will be the advantages of poultry California and quicken throughout the state. Every organization in California vited to participate in this ment, and it is proposed annual poultry exhibition every year in different parts formia.

& KLEMENT
A practical business-like method of crystalizing this spirit of progressiveness upon the coast has been proposed. Throughout the Pacific States region there exists commercial bodies of loyal men who are intent upon developing their own locality and helping along the general movement for the welfare of all. It has been suggested, and the movement is now under way, to crystalize this sentiment of unanimity through an alliance of the Pacific States commercial organizations, so that the commercial bodies which are doing work for immigration, publicity and development, may all unite in a general Pacific States association. It is suggested that every state in the Pacific States region form a central organization of all the commercial bodies of that State, and these states in turn form a Pacific States Association.
The movement, which is now rapidly nearing consumption, will mean a great deal for the Pacific States region. In all larger matters that affect the whole coast the different sections of the coast will co-operate. The organizations now existing will not be superceded in their splendid local work, but will be aided and assisted by the general organization. Every community, while doing the most efficient work for itself will profit by the help of all other communities. The officers of commermore, nothing less. This can only be accomplished through a harmonious feeling in the entire Pacific States region. Every locality must get its due and must obtain recognition from every other part of the Pacific States region. Jealous rivalry and a disposition to disparage one section of the coast to the booming of another section would discourage capital and industries and desirable population from coming here. The "knock" travels further than the "boost." Already the Pacific States are working together.
A California imported like twenty-one million poultry products last year, the fact that the state offers opportunities for the poultry industry. It is believed that there will be 5,000 exhibits of the industrial state exhibition. Leading judges from the east will be to attend and arrangement made to advertise the exhibitions throughout the journals of the east. The California Promotion Committee not actively participate in management, but will do all forward the event as a station, and the working hitters of the exhibition will headquarters of the California motion Committee, 25 Newgomery street, San Francisco.
The committee has received inquiries regarding the poultry industry than from any other of the live stock industry. Lieved that this big poultry tion will greatly further poultry shows which are throughout the state.
SWISS AUTHORITY ON VINE D

affect the whole coast the different sections of the coast will co-operate. The organizations now existing will not be superceded in their splendid local work, but will be aided and assisted by the general organization. Every community, while doing the most efficient work for itself will profit by the help of all other communities. The officers of commercial organizations will be stimulated in their work of developing regions and commonwealths. The movement was inaugurated more than a year ago by Rufus P. Jennings, executive officer of the California Promotion Committee. The press of the Pacific Coast region has given the work its loyal support and their is but little doubt but that a year of prosperity and progress is at hand for the whole Pacific Coast region ahead and beyond anything that perhaps the most sanguine has felt that we could conservatively expect.
POULTRY INTEREST.
That California is a state that presents great possibilities for intelligent poultry raising will be demonstrated by a great Poultry show to be held in San Francisco in December. It is expected that every poultry association in California and everyone interested in poultry raising will lend their co-operation to the movement, and that the poultry exhibi-

This promotes "erinose," the peculiar red condition of the leaf.
Professor Twight will now experiment with a solution of one per cent carbolic spray, a three per cent permanganate of potash or a four per cent eysol solution. After spraying, should any insects remain sulphur will be employed.

Finding health is like finding money—so think those who are sick. When you have a cough, cold, sore throat or chest irritation, better act promptly like W. C. Barber of Sandy Level, Va.

According to reports of trade officials of the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific, the number of cars of oranges sent east during the season just closed was 29,000. This includes shipments from Butte county and the San Joaquin country as well as from Southern California, the bulk of the business, however, coming from the latter section. All shipments are included that went out of the state by rail. In these 29,000 cars there were 10,498,000 boxes. The total value of the shipments reached the sum of approximately $23,925,000.
Of this amount it is figured that the orange growers and shippers got $14,500,000. The remainder, or $9,425,000, went to the railroads and the refrigerator car lines for freight and icing charges. For the season which opens early in November the railroad people estimate there will be 37,000 cars for the eastern market.
Up to Sept. 15, 4,800 carloads of California green fruit have been sent east, with Chicago, New York, and Boston as principal distributing centers. This is an increase of 500 cars over the same period of last year, when 4,300 cars had been shipped up to Sept. 15, 1904. In other words, 124,800,000 pounds of green fruit were sent east up to Sept. 15, as compared with 111,800,000 pounds for the same period of last year, or an increase of 13,000,000 pounds.
The season will close early in November and the railroad officials say that by that time 2,000 additional cars will have gone east. This will make a total for the season of 6,800 carloads.
