Depositors may start an account with $1. The advertisement contains instructions as to the manner of carrying an account. The spirit of saving should be inculcated in the young, and an account, be it ever so small, will prove to be one of the greatest blessings. It wards off poverty when old age comes creeping on, and instills in the mind habits of economy and frugality that pay big interest constantly on life's journey. Teach the children how to save their pennies, and the dollars will take care of themselves in later years. The army worm is causing the farmers a great deal of trouble. Several hundred acres of sugar beets have been destroyed and the alfalfa fields and flower gardens has suffered greatly. The farmers have taken to devising ways to stop the worm in its work of destruction. A florist at La Mirada has a force of boys employed picking the worms at so much per tomato can, while the growers of alfalfa dig trenches around their fields. The sides of the trenches are smoothed and into these the army worm falls unable to rise again. Later the industrious farmer passes along with a sort of scraper and crushes them. One farmer claims to have saved his 60-acre alfalfa patch in this manner. McKaughan's colt show brought out some fine specimens of the Wandering Boys.
