Anderson, who has bargained for Joe P. des Grange's place north of H. Hetebrink's place. This place can be made a very valuable one; the soil is exceedingly fertile. Joe has a natural taste for machinery and will no doubt start a mill at Fullerton for doing various kinds of works. Johnathan Kraemer and wife have gone north to his Alameda county ranch. He expects to be gone two months. Mr. Frenoh has recovered his lost horse. It no doubt strays away instead of being stolen, as was first supposed. It was found grazing with Domingues Bastanschury's horses on his sheep ranch. Spraying of orchards for red scale still goes on and if the work is kept up, they will in time be wholly eradicated. W.M. McFadden sent a 73-pound watermelon picked November 4th and a sample of hard-shell walnuts and A.F. Pendleton sent a sample of soft-shells to Los Angeles to go with the "California on Wheels" exhibit. The nuts sent averaged five inches in circumference. The generosity of the Trustees of The Placentia school funds is not particularly admired by the patrons of the school. It seems that the assistant teacher was employed at $60 a month. Two of the trustees agreed to make her a present of five dollars a month without consulting with Mr. Hansen, the third trustee, and paid $65, instead of $60, as agreed and contracted for, and gave $65 for nineteen days, an illegal month, instead of twenty days. Seven months of that kind of generosity will donate $56 of the district funds; $5 extra and one day a month less making $8 a month. Attend strictly to business, gentlemen, and if you want to make donations make them out of your own cash instead of the peoples'. The Orange baseball club played the home nine on the ball grounds on Sunday afternoon, and took them into camp to the time of 18 to 12. The visitors were reinforced by one or two players from Westminster, while the game was the first the home club had played together. A triple play was made by Rimpan, Seager and Koerner of the Anaheim club, which was the feature of the game. The visitors were superior as bat, but otherwise the home boys compared favorably with them. Another game will be played soon with the Santa Ana club. Wonderful Beans. EDITOR GAKITTE, Anahim, Cal.,—DEAR SIR: The following item I clipped from the Philadelphia Evening Star of November 9th. "A farmer at Anahim, California, sent last year for some 'Wonderfied Beans' to experiment with. He received as many as would fill a tea cup, and planted them. He has just gathered a crop of 100 moons." I write to know whether the above item was published in THE GAKITTE, and if so, can you furnish me with the name of the farmer, as I am interested in the question of raising beans.
