The Weekly Gazette. ISSUED EVERY THURSDAY. Henry Kuchel, Charles Kuchel, Bernard and Perrissons. THURSDAY NOVEMBER 8, 1853 THE ELECTION. This election on Saturday resulted in nothing less than a great Republican victory. At the present writing the indications are that New York, Indiana and Connecticut, together with those States accounted rare, have gone for Harrison and Morton, giving them 230 electoral votes, a majority of 28. The result shows that the Democracy has not been able to keep the confidence of the people while exercising administrative power, and that the Republicans have not lost control of national affairs. It is impossible as we write to give accurate returns from each of the States. Enough is known, however, to warrant the assertion that the Republicans will have a substantial majority in the Electoral College. The indications for this county at this writing are that the entire county ticket is elected, with majorities ranging from several hundred to three thousand. The State also goes Republican. A dispatch from New York last evening gives the State to Harrison by 16,000 plurality, Indiana by 12,000 and Connecticut by 2,000. The holiday editions of the illustrated weeklies and most of the monthlies were made up and printed last March, and orders have been constantly taken since that time. Harper's Monthly is made up in general eighteen months ahead. At present the Harpers are engaged in printing the issue of April 1, 1890. This enables them to place the Monthly on all of the newsstands in the world at the same instant. The first月月底来 appear on the newsstands are those of Mrs Frank Leslie, which are ready for retail sale from fifteen days to one month before the month for which they are issued. The review of the navies of Italy and Germany in the Bay of Naples by the two powerful monarchs was excited some alarm in France, especially as both the former nine of Pacific Railroad heads. While other nation are adding to their national debt we are paying ours at a rate which will extinguish it in about twelve years. ASSCHLAG'S CONFESSION. Mr Telle the History of His Life, The Grove Murder. Anchlag has written the history of his life, of which the following paragraph relating to his murder of the Hitchcock at Garden Grove will be of interest to our readers. After committing the Fuge murder Anchlag named to this county in search of a home. He continues: I rode around for two days with a real estate agent looking for land until we found a place in Garden Grove, which I liked, and upon which I paid him some money. Next day I went to Anchlag and remained there two days, but, not liking it, I went to Pasadena where I stayed three days. I then returned to Santa Ana and looked at lands, finally concluding to lay the Hitchcock place. I made the first payment according to agreement with the agent. Before that we went to the city to record a lead and I promised him the rest of the money in a short time. Now I want to make it short. I then stayed on the farm... I told the man I hired in Anchlag that I would call for him some time during the week. On the day Mr. Hitchcock went to Long Beach I commenced work. He came back at night, and his horses being too warm to wake, he put them in the stable, giving them some hay. He intended to water them after they had soaked off. After eating supper together we sat reading for a short time. Then we started for the barn to water and feed, the horses. I had been drinking some wine in the evening to gain courage to commit the dead which I promised. During the day I had placed the hatchte near the door so that I could get at it easily, and while Mr. Hitchcock was feeding the horses I placed myself in such a position that I could easily kill him. As he stooped to pick the lantern I struck him on the head. I then gave him two more cuts on the head, and believing him to be dead I went to the house to kill Mrs. Hitchcock. Finding her standing in the kitchen I entered the door with the hatchet in my hand. She looked at me as I came in and then turned to work again. Approaching her from behind I struck her on the head, but did not kill her. I then struck her again, knocking her over, after which I dragged her out doors near the wool pile. I then got her and out her several times, and after making sure she was dead I started to Mr. Hitchcock with the axe in my hand, and gave him several more blows. I then got the wagon and putting some straw in it. I laid Mr. Hitchcock in first and then carried Mrs. Hitchcock, and placing her in with Mr. Hitchcock, covered them up. After this I hitched the horses to the wagon and drove to an obstacle place about two or three miles from the house. Upon reaching that spot I paralll commissive proceedings reared every day. The poor old man's wife is not very happy. He is a white of all his children only one son in hands with him. Briggs's hospital rule is one great cause to family discontent. It will cost Parsell $200,000 to hire him not an aider and abutter of our London Times charged. Mr. Parsell pays a position which enables him upon the friends of justice through English-speaking world to contribute fond for his defense, but the fact subjected to such expense is suggest he had not had the world to fall when he would have been reduced to ten years of submitting to the charge in training himself in the assertion of cognition. It remains to be seen if Mrice will reach the powerful jouissance made the accusation the friends of nell will contribute $200,000 to do. There was an explosion Saturday at Kettle Creek Coal Company near Lock Haven; Pa. The curried in a new drift, in which were at work. As soon as possible explosion the mine was entered and bodies carried out. Four men had been found, one of whom has since others are likely to die. The explosion is unknown, but is have been the striking of a massive gas. The disfigured and naked miner was found 50 feet from these air shafts from which it blown. The names of the dead learned, are Samuel Killinger, Panella, Michael Curran and three brothers. All but those named were Hungarians or Italians, whose names furnished. The most brilliant artificial light ever shone on the world—that is recently completed St. Catherine's Lodge at the southern extremity of Wight, which burns with an ill-power of over 7,000,000 candles at length in the London Times' office at 21st Previous to May 1st last shown was only of 730 candles. The light is flashed upon the sea, like tame bull-eye for a period of intervals of thirty seconds, and rays to an enormous distance. To reflect that this might damage the direct and legitimate descendance beacon on the hill top, and has its stages of development in the crevices on the watch-tower, the tiles, three to the pound; of Weldystone, the flat wick lamp comparatively recent products of the shape of concentric wick lenses and parabolic reflectors adder to day at such achievements as St. Catherine's light. Perhaps our descendants will illuminate frequented sea routes as we light great boats, bearing powerful lights upon them, might be sown round the coasts with the elect need generated by the action of tails and will marvel that we could content to let great ships blue The review of the navies of Italy and Germany in the Bay of Naples by the two powerful monarchs has excited some alarm in France, especially as both the former nations are making strenuous efforts to add to the strength and efficiency of their naval forces. La France remarks on this subject: "Without doubt it is on land that the fate of nations is decided, but we have to guard against the interruption of our commerce, the bombardment of our ports, and the imobilization of our African army crops. We have likewise to guard against the invasion of Lorraine, left without an army or fortification, as well as against the invasion of Algiers, and Tunis, supported possibly by a native insurrection. Are we in a condition to make head against all those probabilities? There are experts in high positions in France who declare that the German and Italian nations must be asserted in number and influence. What is wanted is not more money, but the proper disposal of the appropriation allowed to the navy. We recognize that royal counsel of the own and Navarre is the center of it. The king is an interesting old gentleman, with a great fondness for Americans. Seven years ago the King issued an order applying friendship for a rather commonplace individual named Jackson, who had been studying science and acting as Vice consul. He nearly always walked through the park when the King did bow and smile on his Majesty Jackson, however, was a very good man of fellow, and never interfered much in business. He was called Von Jackson, played baby games of cards with the old King, and enjoyed to the utmost his considerable pull in the important little kingdom. Lately, however, the American question has become complicated. Two more Americans have come in one named Woodlock and the other named something else. Woodlock has been made a nobleman, and it is said that he and his friend have been going in for spiritualism and making ghosts appear to frighten the old King. As a consequence they have been spending the money of the royal treasury very last and carrying it generally. The American, Jackson, has been promoted to the office of secret Court Commissioner, and although the title means just nothing, the Germans are very indignant and declare that the Americans must go. Tugna is reason to believe Lord Sackville will regret having so calmly put both feet in the anare set by his acquiring compatriot out West, says a London cablegram. Almost every English newspaper has denounced his conduct as more or less reprehensible, antimine, and, what is more important, Lord Malabursey is in a fine state of indignation as well. Any French or German or even Ukihara is made up in general eighteen months ahead. At present the Harper's are engaged in printing the issue of April 1, 1890. This enables them to place the Monthly on all of the newsstands in the world at the same instant. The first month lies to appear on the newsstands are those of Mrs Frank Leslie, which are ready for retail sale from fifteen days to one month before the mouth for which they are issued. Finding her standing in the kitchen I entered the door with the hatchat in my hand. She looked at me as I came in and then turned to work again. Approaching her from behind I struck her on the hail, but did not kill her. I then strack her again, knocking her over, after which I dragged her out doors near the wool pile. I then got the wagon and putting some straw in it I laid Mr. Hitchock in first and then carried Mrs. Hitchock, and placing her in with Mr. Hitchock, covered them up. After this I hitched the horses to the wagon and drove to an obscure place about two or three miles from the house. Upon reaching this spot I found that I had forgotten the spade, so I placed the two balles on the ground, and covered them up. Next I drove back to the house, where I got a clean suit of clothes, and after clearing up things around the house so that no trace was left I returned with the spade, to the balles, and digging it hole, placed them both in and covered them up very carefully. Taking off the suit I laid on I put on the clean one and threw the dirty one into the brush, and getting into the wagon. Drove to Anaheim for its man I had engaged to work for me and returned to the raunch and worked till I was arrested and brought to this jail. Thus I did thinking that no one would find it out and that I would get possession of the property at the death already executed in my name. Anschlag's other victories Fratt Anschlag has made a contribution of killing of John Fargo at the Norman settlement of Cansebak in Bath county in September 1857. Anschlag had made a small loan and made a small payment on Fargo was his worth eight times was a single money. Anschlag complied to fill him and kept him stationed at his position that he was going to attend cabals. He had Page in his back of the sickle, killing him instantly. Going to the house he presented a shovel, dug a mole and lined the dead map." He could find no money in Fargo's house, and only thing he took was a mercenary pipe. He says he went to New Era Ohio and from there information drew. He gave the necessary directions for handling the grave. Sheridan Kays commenced investigating the matter, and put the slaves into the hands of Detective Harris and Jailer Rusez They took the map went to the place which is about ten miles from Deville, and succeeded in finding the skeleton of Fargo just as Anschlag had marked quite ground for them. How at Stanley? The alleged pass from Stanley would be more comforting but for dates. It is to the effect that a counter "lately arrived at Zanzibar with intelligence" that a party of Arabs met Stanley's rear guard at some sixty miles west of Albert Nyanza November of last year, and that he was asking across for Waiatah, which he hoped to reach in about fifty days in early January of this year. If Stanley had been within fifty days of the Albert Nyanza a year ago he has probably perished or should have heard of him before. The course of post if one can apply such a term routers through Equatorial Africa from Wailela to Zanzibar has been stated at six months, and it is not conceivable that Stanley could have got near Kunni Pasha's lake headquarters and been unable to communicate with him. Knowing this painful anxiety with which the world was awaiting news from Stanley, Kunni would have been certain to dispatch both by way of Zanzibar and by way of Gondokoro to convey the intelligence of his whenceabouts Some one of these countries would probably have got through. The chance are that the story of the Zanzibar Arab is a rumor which Mrs. Hitchock Finding her standing in the kitchen I entered the door with the hatchat in my hand. few years ago American, Jackson, has been presented to the office of secret Court Councilor, and although the title means just nothing, the clerks are very indignant and declare that the Americans must go. There is reason to believe Lord Sackville will regret having so calmly put both feet in the arena set by his acquiring compatriot East, says a London cableagle. Almost every English newspaper has denounced his conduct as more or less reproachable, attinne, and what is more important, Lord Malisbury is in a fine state of indignation as well. Any French or German or even Chinese representative in London who should have presumed to act as Sackville has done at election time, would be looked upon as insane; and, while the English Prime Minister earns little what becomes of the American election, it humbles him to see his representative lacking in that British staple, good form. Sackville, now that his brother's death has made him Lord, has estates to look after, and no one need be surprised that he has found it unlikely convenient to go home and attend to them personally. The directors of Spanish railways may be excellent men of business, but they are certainly not students of human nature, as is shown by the following facts. A few months ago the model of a new railway-carriage was put before them, divided into small elegant apartments, each furnished with two seats and a small table, to be reserved for the special use of couples on their weckling tour. Innocent of the well-known fact that newly married couples are always nervous anxious not to appear what they are, the delighted directors ordered some "honeymoon carriages," and for some time past one of them has been attached to every express train, with the result that not a single couple have yet made use of the special accommodation. A terrible rumor is now current to the effect that, unless the new vehicles do not gain favor, they will before long be set apart for the special use of "defrauders wishing to travel alone." The recent report of Reginald Roosama shows that the national debt of 1865 has been reduced 47.42 per cent. This includes only the interest-bearing debt, and not the hundreds of millions of floating debt which has been paid. At the first of late July there were outstanding $810,000,000 of 43 per cent, $190,000,000 4 per cent and $84,000,- News in Brief The Los Gatos Co-operative Winery has made 130,000 gallons of wine. This amount will be increased to 150,000 gallons before the grape season closes. Meat of the wine made is slate, although considerable sweet wine is being produced. A dispatch from Nice in regard to the Wartemburg scandal says the King's councillor, Jackson, whose appointment at a modest salary was sanctioned by the Wurtemberg Cabinet, is wrongly confounded with the other American favorites of the Kings; that Jackson is surrounded with none of the luxury displayed by the others, and that he had nothing to do with their introduction. There is scarcely a doubt that the veteran John Bright is on his deathbed. The public have not been fully informed of his serious condition. He had not been able to leave his bed for two weeks and that he is daily growing weaker. His mind is still clear and he ignets on having a full report of the SWEET HOME OF MY YOUTH. FOR SALE!
