COUGH CURE Absolutely Free from Opiates, Emetics and Poison. Encounter With Robbers: ALBUQUERQUE (N. M.), January 29. — Last Monday Detectives Franklin and Marsh, accompanied by four determined men, started with bloodhounds in pursuit of a gang of robbers who have been operating in this vicinity for the past six months. News reached here this morning that the robbers had been overtaken, and that a desperate encounter at close range had ensued and that the detectives and prisoners would arrive this evening on a special train. Great crowds of people gathered at the depot all day, their patience finally being rewarded at 6 o'clock this evening by the arrival of the special train. Your correspondent corralled one of the detectives, who relates the following story: "The robbers were tracked into Hell's Canyon, near Belen station, 80 miles south of here, and when the robbers discovered that they were surrounded they prepared for a fight. A bloody encounter at close range, with pistols, ensued. The robbers proved to be four in number and well armed. The detectives demanded their surrender, which was answered by a volley of shots from the robbery, and then a regular battle commenced. The detectives' party were too many for them, however, and they succeeded in killing one man, who proved to be a desperate character named Hardy Foster, and capturing two, the fourth robber making his escape. One of the captured robbers proved to be Charlie Ross, who murdered Marshal McGuire in this city in November and subsequently broke jail. The name of the other robber is Leslie Bois, a native of Weatherford, Tex. Both men are lodged in jail, which is surrounded by the Sheriff's party. Lynching is feared." Excitement in Texas. Great excitement has been caused in the vicinity of Paris, Tex., by the remarkable recovery of Mr. J. E. Corley, who was so helpless he could not turn in bed, or raise his head; everybody said he was dying of consumption. A trial bottle of Dr. King's New Discovery was sent him. Finding relief, he bought a large bottle and a box of Dr. King's New Life Pills; by the time he had taken two boxes of Pills and two bottles of the Discovery, he was well and had gained in flesh thirty-six pounds. The strength of protection lies in the fact that it appeals to the selfish interests of so many. Every petty industry in the land that is authorized by law to rob the people is ready to fight for protection, and to submit to the robbery imposed upon it by other industries, if it be but allowed to steal its share of the plunder. A proposition to reduce the duty upon raisins, for instance, brings out a dozen or so people in Riverside in vigorous protest, and they appeal to Congress to protect them, and say: "We, the undermined, raisin growers of Riverside, California, learning with regret and alarm that the Secretary of State, Bayard, advocates a reduction of duty on foreign raisins and currants, amounting to one cent per pound, would respectfully but earnestly ask your influence at Washington, to prevent the passage of any measure tending towards such or any reduction." In other words the Riverside raisin growers demand that Congress shall compel all the users of raisins and currants among the 60,000,000 people of the United States to pay a tax upon every pound of fruit they use in order that the profits of a dozen or so individuals may not be reduced. The Riversiders are right in this, too, the raisin industry should be protected as long as other industries are. There is no just reason why the raisin grower should be compelled to pay an additional price on every article he uses, unless he be allowed in turn to cinch the people who use his products. The wrong of protection is that all industries cannot be equally protected; if they could, then the object of protection would be at an end. Its sole aim is to build up one class of industry at the expense of another, to take the earnings of one man and give them to another, a system of injustice, robbery, that a free people should not tolerate. A more outrageous system never was devised, but its hidden methods, which are so tortuous that the greater part of men in the hurry of life cannot trace them to their legitimate outcome serve to keep it alive. 26,587,335 BOTTLES OF Warner’s SAFE Cure Sold, to Dec. 27, 188C. Y.), in 1885 was suffering with a skin humor like leprosy. Could not sleep; was in great agony. For two years tried everything without benefit. Was pronounced incurable. "Twenty bottles of Warner’s SAFE Cure completely cure me," and to-day I am strong and well." (Feb. 5, 1885.) Providence, - 171,929. EX-GOV. T. G. ALVORD (Syracuse, N. Y.) in 1884 began running down with General Debility, accompanied with a sense of weight in the lower part of the body, with a feverish sensation and a general giving out of the whole organism. Was in serious condition, confined to his bed much of the time. After a thorough treatment with Warner’s SAFE Cure he says: "I am completely restored to health by its means." Portland, Me., - 441,105. MAJOR S. B. ABBOTT (Springfield, Mo.), in 1871 was afflicted with lame back, Rheumatism and Kidney trouble. Consulted the very best physicians in San Francisco, and visited all the mineral springs there. Pennsylvania, - 1,824,218. F. THOAS SCHIMDT (Wife of the Vice-Consul of Denmark, 69 Wall St., New York) reported that her little son after an attack of Diphtheritic Sore Throat eight years ago, was afflicted with Bright's Disease in advanced form; by the advice of Gen'l Christiansen, of Drexel, Morgan & Co., Bankers, New York, she prescribed Oleomargarine vs. Butter The instrument to be used to determine whether butter is butter or oleomargarine is oleomargarine, is a glass tube half an inch in diameter and is six inches long, having degree marks on its circumference. With it is a tube an inch and a quarter in diameter. To make the test the tin tube is filled with water heated to a temperature of 180 degrees, and the glass tube is filled with the article to be inspected. If it is genuine butter the result will show the butter to melt to a liquid oil, and in the bottom of the tube a whitish curd of cheese will be deposited to the amount of about three-tenths as indicated by the scale marked on the tube, and the remainder of the contents will be pure oil. In the case of a test of butterine the result is quite different. The same process is gone through with, but the per cent. of deposit or curd will be very small, and tiny flakes adhere to the sides of the tube, and the greater portion of the tubes' contents will be oil, quite different in appearance, as the butter oil is transparent and the butter oil translucent with a sense of weight in the lower part of the body, with a feverish sensation and a general giving out of the whole organism. A new style of entertainment, termed "progressive lunch," has become popular in Chicago. It is conducted on the principle of progressive euchre. A number of small tables are provided, at which four are seated. At the end of each course lots are drawn, and two go from one table to the next, thus bringing about a continual change of partners, and allowing each person to see something of every one present. A Chance for Health Is afforded those fast sinking into a condition of hopeless debility. The means are at hand. In the form of a genial medicinal cordial, Hostetter's Stomach Bitters embodies the combined qualities of a blood fertilizer and depurent, a tonic and an alterative. While it promotes digestion and assimilation, and stimulates appetite, has the further effect of purifying the life current and strengthening the nervous system. As the blood grows richer and purer by its use, they who resort to this sterling medicinal agent, acquire not only vigor, but bodily substance. A healthful change in the secretions is effected by it, and that sure and rapid physical decay, which a chronic obstruction of the functions of the system produce, is arrested. The prime causes of disease being removed, health is speedily renovated and vigor restored. WORKING CLASSES ATTENTION! S.S.S. About twenty years ago I discovered a little sore on my cheek, and the doctors pronounced it cancer. I have tried a number of physicians, but without receiving any permanent benefit. Among the number were one or two specialists. The medicine they applied was like fire to the sore, causing intense pain. I saw a statement in the papers telling what 8, 6, 8, had done for others similarly afflicted. I procured some at once. Before I had used the second bottle the neighbors could notice that my cancer was healing up. I general health had been bad for two or three years—I had a hacking cough and spit blood continually. I had a severe pain in my breast. After taking six bottles of 8, 6, 8, my cough left me and I grew stouter than I had been for several years. My cancer has healed over all but a little spot about the size of a half dime, and it is rapidly disappearing. I would advise every one with cancer to give 8, 6, 8, a fair trial. Mrs. Nancy J.
