WEEKLY GAZETTE SATURDAY JUNE 30, 1883 Kleinigkeiten. It's not. The Board of Town Trustees meet in regular session on next Thursday. A Schneider has been appointed Administrator of the estate of Mrs. E. Kielp, deceased, with bonds fixed at $6000. Mrs. Them Rimpar and daughter left yesterday by steamer for Santa Barbara where they will spend the summer months. A next voyage is being built by Mr. Nickerson on the ten acres recently purchased by him near the depot. Dr Maynard of Los Angeles has been appointed examining surgeon for this county by the Commissioner of Pollutants. The Los Angeles Common Council is forced to make an appropriation for the celebration on their Fourth. They are a lot of patriots. We beg to acknowledge the receipt of an invitation to a ball at San Fernando on the Galorious Fourth, given by the San Fernando Social Club. Visitors to Anaheim on the Fourth will find at the Anaheim Bakery on Center street a splendid lot of pies and cakes of all the scriptures. Buy some for the children. Among the samples of wine exhibited at the Vintnerial Convention last week. We had a call on Thursday from Mr. M. Welsh, the Superintendent of the Southern California Packing Company of Los Angeles, who is making the grand tour of the several localities in this and adjoining counties contracting for fruit for the cannery. While here he bought the apricot and peach crops of the Messrs. Browning, Schorn and Cowan, paying 12 cents per pound for apricots and one cent per pound for peaches. This is a more liberal price than is paid by the Custom or Revenue authorities, and as the managers of the Los Angeles cannery do not claim to be any in the pralantine but than their neighbors, and pay the price, they do because the fruit is worth it; there is good reason for believing that the Canzikers announce of a notification between the San Bernardino countries made some weeks ago had a good foundation, not outstanding the insignificant and vehement mislaunners made by the managers. We are pleased to learn from Mr. Welsh that the orchards and vineyards of Anaheim are unexcelled by any in Southern California. He believes that much of the excellence of the fruit is due to the correct system of irrigation in many here; the copious deposition of this soil in winter. His experience is that no unirrigated trout as deficient in flavor, weak and watery, but that it is impossible to put too much water on the land in winter. The capacity of the cannery is now 10 tons of fruit per day or 50,000 acre feet. Double the capacity of last year. One hundred and fifty persons are employed. The fruit put last year has long since been disposed of and Mr. Welsh anticipates no difficulty in tracing a market for all the trout which he can see. This is another illustration of the virtue of the old age that whatever is worth doing well for it is well known fact that some minor canneries have yet on hand their product of last year. There is always sale for that which excels but it is easy to glint the market with anything second rate. The scheme of coining a cannery in Anaheim is complete. In a year or two there will be an annual fruit treat. THE A GLORIOUS COUNTY The enthusiasm preparations are going of the Fourth give way will be a notable omen from the adjourned their active participation be a pageant, or exe is no reason to doubt last year, good thou by the processioning. A large pavilion adjoining the Bay with evergreens adjoined with seas. A foot of the duster of the pavilion provides water will make the pavilion for visitors. The morning pro-street where it is located center along Center along Fire march to center, after Los Angeles pavilion. The prompt and pace both stand before must be appreciated. The afternoon pro- and H. will start at four o'clock, and then to defile in the meet halt an hour. The official howl published in another Grand Marshall, the following article appears in H. Calceo langeberger D. The foot races in ternion will take place the popular trees on The grand Ma We beg to acknowledge the receipt of an invitation to a ball at San Fernando on the Glorious Fourth, given by the San Francisco Social Club. Visitors to Anaheim on the Fourth will find at the Anaheim Bakery on Center Street a splendid lot of presents and cakes of all kinds. Bay some for the children. Among the samples of wine exhibited at the Vintneral Convent in last week were the following from Anaheim: H. Wieder, White Mission; F. Hartung, Berger 1882; Angelina Mission 1872. On and after July 3rd, the steamer Constituer and four Jagers will be withdrawn from the Los Angeles line giving a showcase every other May since San Pedro to San Francisco instead of one month days as it present. The County Board of Education convened on Tuesday for the examination of applicants for leisure opportunities. Fifteen men and thirty-five ladies presented them selves for examination. Mr. Fred Hartung and sister leave for San Francisco this afternoon. Mr. Hartung will be gone two months, and will visit Oregon and Washington Territory before returning. The Anaheim district and Minister's group will give a performance at Kitegger Hall on the evening of the Fourth. As the touring and varied performance will be given, and at its close the ball will begin. The admission to the performance and ball is only fifty cents. J. G. Bowers and others have looked in the County Recorder's office notice of location of the Workingmen Petroleum mining claim in the NW of section 10, township 3 southeast range 9 west. J. W. Snow and others also like varieties of Santa Ana Petroleum mining claim on NE of same section. These on claims are but a few miles from Anaheim. Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Huggins celebrated their silver wedding on Tuesday evening, and some of their near relatives came quite a distance to rejoice with them on the occasion. They are older than they were a quarter of a century ago, of course, but are hare and hearty enough to give promise that they will live to celebrate their golden, if not their diamond wedding. Measrs, West, Wheeler, De Tark, Krug, Westmore and Haraszthy, the Viticultural Commissioners, visited Anaheim one day this week, and were courteously received by our vigorous. Their preacher against the Mission grape was considerably removed when they saw our thrirty vineyards and sampled the excellent Mission wine to be found in our market. Mr. Welch anticipates no difficulty in trailing a market for all the trout which he can see. This is another illustration of the variety of the old trout that whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well; for it is a well-known fact that some newer cannery sets out on hand their product of last year. There is always sale for that which exceeds but it is easy to glimpk the market with anything beyond tale. The scheme of selling a quantity in Anaheim is deliberately made abundant. In a year or two there will be an abundance of fruit grown here, and there is no doubt that either a banquet or party will be operated here. There were seven hundred and thirty-one wines in the room at Bedford Street in Westwood, and probably more than twenty water lime ponds more than 250 inches for irrigation. The pots installed need not repellent of any moisture loss due to heat or rain. The security is due principally to the fact that more water is being taken from the river every year by the divers at Riverside and follow their waters. It is impossible that Anaheim and Santa Ana Companies will agree to use all the water legally in Anaheim and Santa Ana Companies will rent that District of the Santa Ana Company. The meeting for this over the proposition, and also so does the areaability of drinking a swampy cooling above Badrock Crossing, by which means it is thought at a couple of hours in water may be develped. The gentle train which left Los Angeles it sights at on Monday, arrived at Anaheim sixteen miles north, about 140 feet at the terminal time, and while waiting to take its oil engine No. DD under charge of Mr. Rowland, on the way to Mave, dashed round the curve around the headland, and in instant struck the car whose end crushed it into the emigrant car, killing Mrs. G. Betger and injuring her husband. Thomas Williams and wife John Fitzgerald and F. E. West were also slightly injured. Mr. and Mrs. Betger were a newly married couple and had only taken the train at Newall about an hour before the soil catastrophe. The Coroner's pay held that neither the conductor nor any of the employees of the trans were to blame, as they were running strictly according to orders, but that the fault was at headquarters or with the Train Despatcher at Los Angeles. I'll output these lines as they appear: "We beg to acknowledge that an inspection has been dispatched off and Mr. Welch anticipates no difficulty in trailing a market for all the trout which he can see from his office at Bedford Street in Westwood, and probably most of them are too short to walk along more than 200 inches for irrigation. Their preparation against the Mission grape was considerably removed when they saw our thrirty vineyards and sampled the excellent Mission wine to be found in every cellar. Rev. J. A. Emery will leave on Monday for the East, under an appointment from Bishop Kip, on business connected with the diocese. He will be gone about four months, and during that time will visit all the large cities in the older States. He will preach to morrow evening at the Episcopal church. During his absence, services will be regularly held by Rev. Mr. Sheridan. Items from Justice Bailey's Court: In the case of the two women arrested for receiving stolen property, all proceedings were dismissed upon motion of the prosecuting attorney, in view of the fact that the boys had been discharged by the Superior Court. In the case of the People vs. D. Yorba, a change of veneer has been taken to Justice Freeman's Court in Santa Ana. The trial of the case of Kraemer vs. Wilkens was postponed until next Monday. Mrs. C. Z Culver died at her home in Orange last Sunday morning. Mr. Culver and wife came from Washington City about one year ago, in the hope that our mild climate would restore Mrs. Culver's failing health. All that was possible for medical skill to devise has been done, and she was watched over constantly and attentively by her relatives and friends. Though Mrs. Culver was confined to her house a great portion of the time during her residence here, she made many warm and sympathizing friends by her amiable and pleasing manner. The floral offerings at the funeral indicated the high esteem in which the lady was held. They consisted of wreaths, crosses, crescents, crowns, pillows, ladders, bonquets, etc., all of the most beautiful design and made from the rarest flowers, forming a collection seldom equaled anywhere. — Standard. A new lot of beautiful masks for the Horribles at J. Helmsen's. On last Monday morning Horace Bell, editor of the Porcupine, was setting in his office in Temple Block, Los Angeles, when the door opened and Chief of Police King entered quickly with a cocked pistol in his hand which he pointed at Bell and fired not, however, until the latter had grasped King's wrist and disconcerted his aim. Bell threw his assault on the door, and about the same time his son Charles came to his aid and struck King with a printer's mallet. King was severely injured. A complaint for assault has been lodged against him. The provocation was a series of attacks on King in the Porcupine. There was a young girl of Saint Ana, A girl whose front name was Hannah, She to her bean wrote: For a bonnet called poke, And asked him to bring it. Minima. But the bean was a sensible feller. So he wrote a response for to tell her That no girl of his. Should surmount her phiz. With a scuttle suggestive of cellar. To tomorrow See O'Leendorf. The exports from the depot for the week ending Wednesday were as follows: 13 carloads wine 294,385 pounds 88 bales of wool 28,450 99 cases eggs 5,940 Miscellaneous freight 28,300 Total 357,075 A loud explosion heard about 9 o'clock on last Saturday night was the result of an attempt to blow up a house on First North street occupied by Chinese. The explosive was placed under the house, it is supposed by some rival Chinese. A few boards were broken and dishes shattered, but no one was hurt. Parties going to the seaside should examine the large assortment of Seaside Libraries at J. Helmsen's. THE FOURTH. A Glorious Celebration Assured. The enthusiasm with which the various preparations are going on for the celebration of the Fourth give assurance that the day will be a notable one in the history of Anaheim. Not only will the citizens of the town turn out in procession with a spontaneity never before seen, but many people from the adjacent country have plunged their active participation and the result will be a pagwalt, or exceeding interest. There is no reason to doubt that the celebration of last year, good though it was, will be eclipsed by the proceedings of next Wednesday. A large pavilion will be erected on the lot adjoining the Bank of Anaheim, covered with evergreens and brush and provided with seats. A fountain is contemplated in the center of the pavilion and the spouting pits of water will serve to cool the air and make the pavilion a pleasant resting place for visitors. The morning procession will form on Adela street where it is intersected by Los Angeles street, and march along the latter street to Center, along Center to Palm, along Palm to First, along First one block and counter-march to Center, along Center to one block above Los Angeles and counter-march to the pavilion. The official bowl of the giant rascassimo is published in another edition. Grand Marshal Norton has appointed the following artists: W. G. Thompson, A. Hoppen, H. Caben, F. W. Tyler, Alberto Langeberger, D. W. Hudson, R. Agnilar. The foot races and other games in the afternoon will take place under the shade of the popular trees on Center street. A dispatch was received yesterday morning announcing the death of Wm. R. Olden at his residence in Los Angeles. Mr. Olden was long a resident of Anaheim and for fifteen years or more has been in ill health. He has shown wonderful vitality, and we are told that of late he appeared to be enjoying very good health, so that his death was quite unexpected. The usual services will be held in the Presbyterian church term week. Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. Praying at 11 A.M. Subject of its success appropriate to the eve of our national celebration.
