Mr. Darling, agent at the depot, will move into his new house to-day. The Methodists are building a church at Pasadena. Mr. Morton, of the Santa Ana News, was in town yesterday. The petition for a post-office at Boegeville has been forwarded to the Department at Washington. Quite a crowd, both young and old, gathered on Centre street yesterday afternoon, watching with interest a game of top. The new improvements at Hinde's Brewery are progressing rapidly. The excavation of the cellar is finished,and the masons are at work building the walls. A small branch, broken by the weight of fruit from one of the orange trees in the orchard of Mr. Gus Davis, was found to have on it two hundred and eight oranges. The following freight was shipped from the depot this morning: One case glassware; 2 boxes bottles; 2 beer kegs; 1 bble sacks; 1 pipe wine; 1 bbl brandy; 1 box tools; 11 boxes ralsins; 1 box books; 1 sack potatoes. The Co-operative Nursery and Fruit Company, of Los Angeles, have ordered five hundred barrels of orange seed for planting their grounds near Los Angeles. The company have a million trees of three years' growth. At the annual election of officers of Anaheim Lodge No. 207, F. & A. M., held on Saturday evening, the following officers were elected: Theo. From Saturday's Daily. —The stage took sixteen passengers to Westminster on Thursday evening. —The shipments from the depot this morning were as follows: 2 tool chests, 2 boxes hardware, 2 pipes wine. —A delegation from Gaddy & Lewis' stable, returned from a grand hunt yesterday with a fine lot of geese, ducks and other game. —The United States Postal Commission, accompanied by Hon. L. A. Amerman, Postal Agent, will arrive in Los Angeles to-day. —We have received a note from Mr. W. H. Henderson, dated at Pala, San Diego county, in which he says: "Please send my GAZETTE to the above address. I have engaged to teach here for a short time and shall find the GAZETTE a welcome visitor. Should I find any items here, shall I be glad to send them to you." We hope to hear from Mr. Henderson often. —Wm. Temple, son of F. P. F. Temple, says the estate of Temple & Workman is being frittered away, and unless something is done quickly the creditors won't get a cent. He advises the transfer of claims to one or two of the heaviest creditors, who shall receive in trust all the estate in acquittance of its liabilities, and that they, in turn, shall be responsible for all the mortgages. He thinks if this were done, the estate could be so arranged as to meet its liabilities and satisfy the mortgages. From Sunday's Daily. —The Base Ball Club, of Orange, won the match at Tustlin City, yesterday. —Two extra stages were employed here daily. Los Angeles. The beauty of the picture could only be equalled by the extreme ugliness of the original. —Arthur Helmann, landlord of the Planters' Hotel, will give his guests a splendid dinner on Thanksgiving Day. Turkey and Cranberry Sauce, and other toothsome vlains appropriate to the occasion, will constitute a spread to delight the most epicurean taste. —a man named Pedro Camano was sentenced to the chain gang yesterday by Judge Burdick, of Los Angeles, for maliciously beating a Chinaman. Pedro gave as an excuse for the assault, that he had been kept out of work a long time by the presence of coolies, and his patience had become exhausted to such an extent that he had to whale blazes out of some celestial in order to relieve his overcharged feelings. —Some hoodlum stretched a cord across the sidewalk on Centre street, near the Mechanic's Saloon, on Sunday evening, for the purpose of having the pleasure of seeing some one fall over it. Fortunately, it was discovered before anyone was seriously injured. A boy who indulges in such tricks has a brilliant future before him, and will without doubt become an estimable member of the State Prison. —Our advertising columns this morning contain a call for a meeting to be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock for the purpose of discussing "the advisability of incorporating the town." We are glad the advocacy of this movement by the Gazette has resulted in awakening our citizens to the importance of having a municipal government. Two extra stages were employed last night to carry passengers from the train to Santa Ana. The bay mare belonging to J. M. Hickey, of Santa Ana, won the 300 yard race at Gibson's ranch yesterday. We noticed yesterday some splendid samples of dried figs put up by Mr. Luedke. They present a fine appearance, and are no doubt as good as they appear. Mr. Davis informs the Los Angeles Express that it is his intention to start up his Alden works in about two weeks. He intends to run the factory on vegetables—squashes, tomatoes, etc. Serious damage was caused by the late wind at the bee ranch of Mr. J. W. Sallee, in Santiago Cañon. A two-story bee house was blown down and a large number of bees and several tons of honey were destroyed. A traveling agent of a San Francisco house made an investigation among our cactus plants yesterday. He admired the taste of the fruit, but the thorns with which they were covered did not find palatable. Alfredo Carrillo, brother of the Los Angeles City Marshal, met with a serious accident on Friday night. While riding along his beat, his horse accidentally stepped into an excavation which had been made for the reception of gas mains, and Mr. Carrillo was thrown violently to the ground, breaking his arm and sustaining other serious injuries. A meeting was held on Sunday at the Planters' Hotel for the purpose of taking the necessary steps towards organizing a dramatic association. Mr. A. G. Beebe presided over the deliberations of the body, which was addressed by Messrs. Stagg, Montgomery and others, in favor of organizing an association which would serve to rescue the writings of the late lamented and gifted Wm. Shakespeare from the oblivion which threatens them, if the latent talent of Anaheim does not do its share in perpetuating the love of the "legitimate" In the human heart. These sentiments were loudly and volciferously applauded, and the movement was put in shape by appointing a committee to prepare a constitution and by-lays for the guidance of the association. To Messrs. Woodruff, Lynill and Montgomery was delegated this task, with instructions to report at a meeting to be held this evening. In the language of the Immortal Bard of Avon, we say: "Well done, good and faithful servants; thou hast established upon a solid basis a Literary Society and several other things, and I promise the success in thy present scheme and in many other things. Enter thou into the undertaking, fearing naught." Six criminals were whipped and exposed in the pillory at Newcastle, Delaware, on Saturday, receiving from twenty to forty lashes. BY TELEGRAPH SACRAMENTO, Nov. 24. The official vote of Mono county was received at the Secretary of State's office yesterday, as follows: Hayes, 153; Tilden, 125; Pacheco, 151; Wigginton, 128; Kenfield, 151, Brown, 123. In the Secretary of State's office it is figured up that Pacheco's majority is one vote, Merced returns, however, being unofficial. SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 24. A San Diego dispatch says that a revolution has broken out in Lower California. Jose Moreno has collected a force, issued a pronunciation declaring himself Governor, imprisoned Governor Villagrana and his secretary Roderiguez, seized the custom house at Tia Juna, deposed Villagrana's collector, and restored Caballa, who was removed two months ago. Many Mexicans have entered Lower California from this State and taken the side of Moreno. MODESTO, Nov. 24. Cullen, the murderer, was hung here to-day. He met his fate with great firmness. SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 23. There is some excitement in Republican circles here over the movements of Senator Kelly of Oregon. He left here Tuesday, ostensibly to go East, after stopping a day or two at Sacramento. It is now reported that before leaving here he received an urgent summons to return to Oregon, which he did by rail and stage. He has been tracked as far as Yreka on the road home. The supposition is that he is returning to brace up Gov. Grover in the latter's refusal to issue a certificate of election to Watts, whose eligibility has been questioned on the ground of his being a postmaster. WASHINGTON, Nov. 23. The Commissioner of the Land Office to-day decided, in the case of Butte City, Montana, that patents may issue for town sites in the mineral regions, but as all valid mining claims and possessions are by law excluded from the operation of patents, the title remains in the United States after the town site patent has been issued, then the title to mining claims can be only acquired under the mining act, and that patents may be issued for mining claims situated within the interior boundaries of town site entry, or a patent decision reverses the decision previously rendered by the General Land Office that placer and mining claims could not be included within the exterior boundaries of a town site patent. NEW YORK, Nov. 24. Governor Hendricks and his wife paid a visit to Governor Tilden this morning and remained with him about half an hour. NEW YORK, Nov. 24. A gentleman who saw Tweed yesterday, in answer to an inquiry, says he is crushed and broken, and has lost his old buoyancy and defiant spirit. He is suffering from pleurisy now, and is actually ill. He seems wearied, and is only anxious to know about his old acquaintances. He is entirely in the dark as to what to do, and is even without legal advice. He needs medical advice more than that. LIVERPOOL, Nov. 24. The Post's London special contradicts on authority, the recent statement that in case Russia should invade Turkey, a British army corps would occupy Constantinople. LONDON, Nov. 24. A dispatch to the Standard from Berlin says: Prince Bismarck attended the Reichstag for a short time yesterday. He looks much better than he did last Spring. SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 25. On Thursday night a man engaged a room at the Cameron House, on Sacramento street, and yesterday morning it was discovered that he was dead. In the room were found two letters, one addressed to the Coroner. On the table in the room were found two bottles which had contained laudanum. The following is the letter to the Coroner: To R. R. Swan, M. D., Coroner—Dear Sir: I order to save you as much trouble as possible, I beg to inform you that this is a case of laudanum, taken with sulcidal intent. The reasons concern no one but myself; still, if any one should insist upon a reason, you may say that I was driven to desperation by the Presidential muddle, and seeing no prospect of ascertainment in this world who was to be the next President, went to the next, where all things are supposed to be known, for the information. Please exert your influence with the city fathers to prevent the erection of a monument over my remains, but if you should find a wide-spread feeling ALBANY, N. Y., Nov. 25. The Board of State Canvassers completed their labors to-day. The votes cast for the Presidential Electors are: Democratic—Horatio Seymour, 822-278. Dewitt C. West, 522-612. Republican—Abraham Parker, 489,524, Wm. H. Seward, 489,547. For Peter Cooper greenback electors, 1,987, and for the Green Clay Smith electors, 2,857. COLUMBIA, S. C., Nov. 25. The Supreme Court this afternoon took the order under advisement, requiring the Board of State Canvassers to make a comparison of the returns of the county canvassers, and the returns of precinct managers in cases of Presidential electors, and they will give a decision Monday. The court declined to issue an order giving certificates to members of the Legislature from Edgefield and Lauren's counties, refused by the board, but stated that such members could obtain a copy of the record from the clerk, which would be equivalent to a certificate. The five members of the Board of Canvassers, arrested this morning, reported at the jail this evening, where they are now confined. Their names are: F. L. Condosa, Treasurer; T. C. Dunn, Comptroller General; W. Stone, Attorney; Gen. H. E. Payne, Secretary of State, and H. W. Purvis, ex-Adjutant and Inspector-General, comprising the Board of Canvassers. ST. Louis, Nov. 25. It is now a general belief that Judge Knight; of the Circuit Court, committed suicide this morning by shooting himself. The nature of the wound, the fact that he was financially embarrassed and that he was much depressed in consequence of his defeat at the recent election, and together with the circumstances of the case, all favor the theory of suicide. The closing sentence refers to the recent embroglio between Charles Crocker and Mr. Yung, of the undertaking firm of Massey & Yung, which ended in Mr. Crocker's enclosing Yung's house, adjoining Crocker's premises, with a high board fence. Among the effects of the deceased was found a letter from his brother Fred. A. Bancroft, in Portland, Ohio, showing that deceased was financially depressed. Deceased was an attorney of the firm of Langford, Lander & Bancroft, 411 California street. SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 25. From private dispatches received here it appears probable that the revolution in Lower California is the beginning of an insurrectionary movement in favor of Porfiria Díaz, which will spread through that State. Scarcely any government troops are there to oppose the revolutionists. A Portland dispatch says that the court denies that any application has yet been made for an injunction restraining the issuance of a certificate of election to Watts. The Democrats state positively that such action will be taken. The Republicans are confident the certificate can not be legally withheld. It is reported on good authority that Wiggington will contest Pacheco's election in the Fourth Congressional District, though it does not yet appear what showing he intends to make in favor of a recount. He left for his home in Marced yesterday afternoon. Pacheco has gone to Sacramento to be present on Monday at the official canvass of the vote by the Secretary of State. Attorney; Gen. H. E. Payne, Secretary of State, and H. W. Purvis, ex-Adjutant and Inspector-General, comprising the Board of Canvassers. ST. LOUIS, Nov. 25. It is now a general belief that Judge Knight, of the Circuit Court, committed suicide this morning by shooting himself. The nature of the wound, the fact that he was financially embarrassed and that he was much depressed in consequence of his defeat at the recent election, and together with the circumstances of the case, all favor the theory of suicide. ST. PAUL, Nov. 25. A Winnepeg dispatch says that the small-pox is raging at the Gimill settlements of Icelanders on Lake Winnepeg. Twenty deaths occurred in ten days and eighty cases are there now. Only two out of twenty Indians at Sandy Bar survived. The Lieutenant-Governor has sent troops to enforce a proclamation warning people from contact with the settlement. WASHINGTON, Nov. 25. The annual report of the Chief of Engineers, was completed to-day. Among the estimates for appropriations which he earnestly recommends are the following: For completing defensive works at Fort Point, San Francisco Harbor, $60,000; fort at Lime Point, San Francisco, $80,000; fort at Alcatraz, $50,000; fort at San Diego, $50,000; Fort Stevens, Columbia River, $20,000. Of the amount appropriated for public works on rivers and harbors for the next fiscal year, certain allotments have been made in compliance with the instructions of the Secretary of War. Among them are the following: For the improvement of Oakland Harbor, California, $35,000; Upper Willamette river, $50,000; Lower Willamette and Columbia rivers, $20,.000. The report itemizes the detailed accounts given by various officers of river and harbor improvements now in progress under their respective managements, together with statements of the amounts which these officers estimate can be profitably expended during the next fiscal year. Among these estimates are the following; for improvements at Oakland, Cal., $250,000; Lower Willamette and Columbia rivers, Oregon, $150,000. In transmitting the statements regarding the two latter amounts, Gen. Humphreys makes no recommendation of his own confirming them. P.
