Hirsch, who has just arrived from Arizona furnishes the launch the Bank of Anaheim upon its business career, returned to Los Angeles yesterday. We are gratified to learn from Cashier Siebert that the opening days of the Bank have been most auspicious, and that the people are profuse in their patronage. The business men are unanimous in expressing their satisfaction at the conveniences afforded them by the presence of the Bank. Mr. C. Hirsch, who has just arrived from Arizona, furnishes the Express a distressing paragraph. A young man from St. Louis, Missouri, who left Yuma on the 8d of September, with pack animals, on his way to Los Angeles, perished on the desert, near Indian Wells, just below the boundary line of the State, and in Lower California, on the 9th. He, with a companion, had been wandering around for nearly ninety hours without water, and before he died, he opened a veil in his arm and drank his own blood, which clotted in his throat. To relieve this he made incisions in the wind-pipe and pulled out the clots of blood with his fingers. Six hours after he drank his own blood he died. His companion made his way to a station in the last stage of exhaustion, and told the horrible tale. The young man's name was Henry Smith, and he requested that information of his death be communicated to his sister Miss Sarah Smith, who lives on Carondolet Avenue, St. Louis. From Saturday's Daily The schooner Phil Sheridan is daily expected at Anaheim Landing, with a cargo of lumber for Halberstadt & Co. We learn that a petition is being circulated for signatures requesting Supervisor Evey to become a candidate for re-election, irrespective of party nominations. DIRECTORS. M. S. Patrick, S. H.
