Col. W. R. Olden has presented us with a copy of his interesting series of articles on Southern California, originally published in the Anaheim Gazette. It is a valuable pamphlet which should be sent East by the thousand.—L. A. Herald. Says the Wilmington Enterprise: No decision has yet been made as to whether the Railroad Company will extend the road to Rattle-Snake island or dredge up to the wharf. Two estimates have been made on the latter work, which are $85,000 and $65,000. As dredging is the cheaper plan, we all have hopes that it will be adopted. We acknowledge the receipt, from Mr. Olden, of a copy of his pamphlet, comprising a series of articles on Southern California, originally written for the Anaheim Gazette. We took occasion to compliment these articles very highly when they appeared as serials, and we take pleasure in saying again that they exhibit a reflection and a closeness of personal observation which we have never seen approached on the special topics of which Mr. Olden treats. We understand that the proprietors of the Anaheim Gazette have issued an edition of several thousand copies of this pamphlet, and keep it for sale. There should be a large demand for it.—Express.
