Anaheim Gazette SATURDAY AUG. 21, 1875. CHURCH MEMORIES FIRST PREMITTIAL CHURCH, Rev. J. M. Allis, Pastor. Regular services at 11 a.m. and at 7:20 p.m. Sunday School at 10 a.m. Meeting for practice in Congregational singing and for Bible study on Wednesday at 7:20 p.m. EISCOPAL CHURCH, Rev. W. S. Neale, Pastor. Regular services every Sunday morning at 11 a.m. Sunday School at 10 a.m. Kleinigkeiten. From Wednesday's Daily. Al. looks very smiling to-day. There's lots of fun in the birth column for him. Rev. Mr. Tuck, one of the Editorial Excursion party, arrived on the train this morning. Gen. Howard and B. L. Peel spoke on the railroad issue last night at the Planters' Hotel. Gen. McConnell and other prominent speakers address the people of Anaheim to-night, in front of Enterprise Hall. We present to-day the announcement of J. H. Bland, who is a candidate for District Attorney. Mr. Bland submitted his claims to no convention, but rests his cause directly with the people. Politics, Congressmen, Railroads, and kindred topics are the order of the day. More ice will have to be mixed in the political drinks, or we shall have to make a fresh shipment to the Casa Verde. Mr. Robt. Menzel has been appointed agent for the German Benevolent Association, recently formed in Los Angeles, and advertises the fact to-day. If there are any errors in said advertisement, please attribute it to a There are 9,600 names on the Great Register of this county. The project of furnishing Anaheim with artesian water for use in cases of fire etc., is being seriously agitated among our prominent citizens. We had a very pleasant call to-day from Mr. Emile Gaertner, of Los Angeles. Mr. G. emerged yesterday, from the forlorn state of bachelordom to the realms of matrimonial bliss. We join with his friends in wishing him a long life of happiness. We met, yesterday, Mr. Z. MeChesney, who has recently arrived from the Charlotte mining district. He has full faith in the richness of the district. Dr. Stanway, of Los Angeles, who has lately visited the locality, says that the Charlotte gives a better promise of permanency and dividends than any mine he has ever examined. About ten tons of $60 and $75 ore are now on the Charlotte dump. In our local relating to Mr. Horace Young, of Westminster, in yesterday's issue, we were led by our informant into making two errors. First—Mr. Young is not deranged or insane, as that term would indicate, but has had a very severe attack of "Cerebro-Spinal Meningitis," and was violently delirious therefrom a portion of the time. He is reported as recovering slowly but satisfactorily. Second—He has been attended by Drs. McCoy, of Westminster, and Yocum, of Anaheim. The following were the arrivals at the Planters' Hotel: B Lillimer, Ohio; G E Garil, Dublin; J W Tuck and ladies, W Lacy, H Mabury; E S Phillips, F Euphrat, W M Smith, Capt. Wiseman, H Burdick, J D Chaffee and wife, Los Angeles; MeRac Cave, San Luis Rey; H W Sharpe, Tustin; J Cater, San Juan; At the Anaheim Hotel the ar- Quite a number visited Los Angeles for the purpose of hearing They report a large grief. If there are any errors in said advertisement, please attribute it to a neglected early education. Mr. Horace Young of Westminster, a cousin of Rev. Robt. Strong of that place, became deranged some time during the past week, and is now in a dangerous condition. His derangement is attributed to bathing in cold water while over-heated. He is attended by Dr. Howe of Florence, and Dr. McCoy of Westminster. Mrs. P. C. McKinnle and Mrs. W. Crowther, who so kindly interested themselves in the case of Mrs. Heffner, have collected from various sources the sum of forty-one dollars and fifty cents. Thirty-four dollars of this money was paid to the nurse, and the balance was given to Mrs. Heffner. The ladies desire to return their sincere thanks to the citizens for the liberality shown in this case. The following are the arrivals at the Planters' Hotel: Q. Walling, wife and two children, V E Howard, Hurdick, J H Bland, Jacob Stengel, J G Robinson, S B Suratte, J W Gillette, Los Angeles, Juan Coa, San Juan; M Wetzel, Asa French, S P R R. The Committee of the Anaheim Water Company and the Commissioners of Water Districts 1 and 2 met yesterday. The committee agreed to make a report in substance as follows: That the Anaheim Water Company pay to the Water Districts their proportion of all expenses incurred in making the ditch, etc., and she stockholders in said Company shall have equal water rights with the landowners in the Water Districts; but that as there is no law empowering the Commissioners to enter into any such agreement, matters must remain in allegiance until the next Legislature shall give them the necessary The following were the arrivals at the Planters' Hotel: B Lillimer, Ohio; G E Garil, Dublin; J W Tuck and ladies, W Lacy, H Mabury, E S Phillips, F Euphrat, W M Smith, Capt. From Friday's Daily. The Democratic candidates left for Santa Ana and Orange to-day. Thirty-seven voters have been added to our register during the past two weeks. Our former townsman, D. R. M. Thompson, has opened a saddle and harness emporium in Los Angeles. The present growing crop of corn in the Los Nietos section will be the largest ever raised there. Work on the Los Angeles and Independence Railroad has been suspended and the workmen discharged. McKadden's new steam vessel is daily expected at Newport Landing. Large quantities of corn, rye wheat and barley are at the landing awaiting shipment. A letter from San Francisco informs us that Mr. Gaillard, of the firm of Gaillard & Savin, has undergone an operation at the French Hospital and is now in a critical condition. Mr. Olden informs us that the members of the Eastern editorial party who visited us were very enthusiastic over the wonderful resources of our valley. The force at work on the Cajon water ditch will be transferred to-day to the head of the ditch for the purpose of enlarging it, to meet the requirements of Water District No. 2. The festival last night was an enjoyable affair, and the church funds were swelled by the addition of $65 Misses DesGranges and Heimann furnished the music for the occasion, and all transactions were sound policy dictates that as long as he can be present at the position. They will still retain their identity as the Anaheim Water Company. The committee will make their report on Saturday. From Thursday's Daily. —Dr. J. & Gardiner commenced thrashing to day. He has about five hundred acres in grain. —Sheep-shearing will commence on the Los Alamitos on Monday. So Mr. Kimball informs us. —Mrs. Flora Brown is now established in her new store, adjoining Goodman & Rimpau's. —The Messrs. McConnell, Lamborne, Hudson, Saxon and Wiseman addressed the Democracy last evening. —The barn, burned at Santa Ana on Monday night, was owned by a Mr. Howe. The loss was between seven and eight hundred dollars. —Mr. Krusger is erecting a windmill at the back of his brick building on Center street. He intends building a tank of 5,000 gallons capacity. —The will of Jacob Keller, deceased, has been admitted to probate and Dr. W. N. Hardin and R. Heimann are appointed administrators. —The Independent nominees will speak in Gospel Swamp and Santa Ana on Saturday next, in Orange on Monday, and in Westminster on Tuesday. —The force at work on the Cajon water ditch will be transferred, to-day, to the head of the ditch for the purpose of enlarging it, to meet the requirements of Water District No. 2. —The festival last night was an enjoyable affair, and the church funds were swelled by the addition of $65. Misses DesGranges and Heimann furnished the music for the occasion, and Mr. Saxon gave readings, which added not a little to his well-deserved fame as an elocutionist. —We have just received from Sherman & Hyde, Music publishers of San Francisco, two beautiful songs, entitled "Is my darling true to me?" and "Would you answer yes or no?" composed by Chas. E. Pratt and dedicated to Alice and Dickie Lingard respectively. These songs bid fair to become immensely popular. —a Justly indignant candidate cornered us this morning and complained bitterly thusly: "It is bad enough to have all the girls in the town strewing flowers in my pathway, and throwing sweet kisses from every window in the place. But, Mr. Reporter, to have you placing me among the hotel arrivals as Mr. Fred Lamborne and wife is, sir, heaping my cup too full. Beware, sir! There is a point beyond which patience ceases to become a virtue." —the telegraph reports Judge Thompson as saying in a speech at San Jose, that the voters are bought like sheep in Los Angeles county. We trust that the gentleman has not been so sweeping in his statement as he is reported. That there is a certain purchasable element amongst Los Angeles electors we have abundant reason to know, but we trust it is not large enough to justify a wholesale accusation like this.—Express. Quite a number of our citizens visited Los Angeles last evening for the purpose of hearing Booth's speech. They report a large gathering. John Watson to V. The faithful, honest and efficient manner in which he has discharged all the duties incumbent upon him, entitle his services to grateful recognition. When the people have secured a faithful and honest custodian of the public funds; when they have proved him and found his administration thoroughly and scrupulously exact in all transactions, we maintain that sound policy dictates that he be retained as long as he can be prevailed upon to accept the position.
