The delegates are C. M. Benbrook, L. C. Pollard, S. G. Reynolds and F. D. Sackett. In the case of R. H. Hill vs. Wm. Chilson (forcible entry and detainer) a judgment was rendered in favor of the defendant. J. B. Smith has been appointed manager of the W. U. Telegraph Co.'s office in Anaheim, vice H. D. Polhemus, resigned. The Probate Court has made an order fixing the 16th day of August as the time for taking proof of the will of Jacob Keller, deceased. We will have the pleasure of listening to another temperance oration in a few days. The Grand Master of the I. O. G. T. will be the orator. We are told that the school in charge of the Sisters of Charity, in Los Angeles, will hold a plenic tomorrow at some point near Anaheim. The Board of Directors of the Hotel Association held a meeting on Saturday, but transacted no business of importance. Twenty thorough-bred merino rams for Mr. C. B. Rawson of the Niguel rancho, were received at the Anaheim Landing yesterday. The slight unpleasantness between the settlers of Gospel Swamp and the Land Company still continues. Constable Davies is now serving injunctions, subpoenas, etc., on the settlers. We learn that the lodge of Good Templars, recently organized here, is rapidly increasing in membership. They hold regular meetings every Friday night in the Odd Fellow's Hall. As an evidence of what can be done we may cite the fact, that, notwithstanding the severe frost of last April, some of last year's cotton stalks are now bearing huge bolls. So Mrs. Parker informs us. D. R. M. Thompson has opened a saddlery business in Los Angeles, and will probably leave Anaheim to-morrow. He still retains an interest in the harness-shop here. Mr. Roberts will be manager of the Anaheim branch. A Los Angeles voter, who was a delegate to the Independent County Convention, voted at the Democratic primaries on Saturday, and pledged himself to support the nominees of that party. As we know him to be a very honorable man, we presume that he would not have taken such a step unless he was aware that the Independent Convention had been corruptly manipulated, and believed that his former pledge to support the Independence The Land Company have advised Mr. Olden that they are prepared to pay the assessment levied on the lands in Water District No. 2. One hundred and thirty votes were polled at the Democratic primaries in Los Nietos. The delegates are C. M. Benbrook, L. C. Pollard, S. G. Reynolds and F. D. Sackett. The friends of Mr. James D. Ott have presumed him to be a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Sheriff. If we were a horse thief we would do all in our power to defeat him. We give place to-day to a communication from "Phillis," in which he tells of his non-success as a farmer. As he refers to Mr. Olden's articles, perhaps that gentleman can inform "Phillis" the reason of his failure. About twenty young ladies, in charge of the Sisters of Charity, came down on the train this morning, and are ruralizing under the trees on the old Strobel place. They return to Los Angeles this evening. Engineer Mix commenced the final survey yesterday of the San Joaquin extension of the S. P. R. R. The contract for grading the road-bed has been awarded to Messrs. Morgan & Strowbridge, who will commence grading on Monday. The following are the Hotel arrivals; Anaheim Hotel; V. Schwarz, John Edward, G. Roth, Los Angeles; Juan Maria, Rancho; Wm. Turner, M. W. Capp, Orange; C. L. Gerillo, San Francisco; W. S. Lyon, Los Alamitos; C. Wagner and wife, Gospel Swamp. At the Planters: Wm. Byrd, Lone Pine; W. Bosworth, San Francisco; O. Newburg, San Bernardino; John Gains, Geo. Goodrich, Los Angeles; A. E. Putney, Florence. Don Mateo Keller is lying ill at San Francisco. B. L. Peel has withdrawn from any connection he may have had with the Independent Party. The Los Angeles postmaster has been instructed to charge ten cents instead of eight for the registration fee for letters. It now costs thirteen cents to register and post a letter between any of the offices in the United States. The Los Angeles schools re-open on Wednesday. One of the specialties of the Centinela Ranch are five and one-half pound ounces —A Los Angeles voter, who was a delegate to the Independent County Convention, voted at the Democratic primaries on Saturday, and pledged himself to support the nominees of that party. As we know him to be a very honorable man, we presume that he would not have taken such a step unless he was aware that the Independent Convention had been corruptly manipulated, and believed that his former pledge to support the Independent ticket was not binding, because of such manipulation. —Considerable interest was taken in the Democratic primaries on Saturday. Elgty-seven votes were polled, with the following result: Theo. Rimpau, 86; J. B. Raine, 59; David Evey, 86; W. M. Bailey, 84; S. T. McGlauffin, 28. The first four named were elected delegates to the County Convention, which meets in Los Angeles on Wednesday. —We have been authorized to state that Mr. Theo. Rimpau will not be a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the Assembly, as heretofore announced. His private business demands his entire attention, and precludes the possibility of accepting a nomination. —Gus. Davis has got back from the San Juan Hot Springs. He tells us that there are about seventy persons camped there at present. Deer, rabbit and quail are abundant. There has been several astonishing cures of rheumatism made by the use of the waters. —The following are the arrivals at the Anaheim Hotel: B C Carrenr, P Joaquin, J K Tuffree, Wm Byrd, Wm Davila, John Evans, H Perry, Joe Murget and boy, Martin Classen, J D Ott, Wm Hunter. Planers Hotel: J A Smith, Henry Hansock, H W Turner, Wm Wallace, W Shoehan, J B Smith, N T Wood, R Fisher, W Higginza. —B. One of the specialties of the Centinela Ranch are five and one-half pound onions. Water District No. 4 (Los Nietos) will elect three Commissioners and one Oversee on the 28th Inst. An artesian well has been struck at a depth of 230 feet on the farm of Jacob Gray, near Downey. Hewltt, the hackman, convicted of poisoning two valuable horses belonging to Askin, has been granted a new trial. Bail fixed at $3,000. The wife of Major Henry Hancock had twins in San Francisco on the 26th. Mr. Wm. Bixby, whose farm is at Compton, showed us this morning a mammoth onion grown at his place. It is the most formidable esculent we ever saw, weighs four pounds and twelve ounces, and is a beauty of symmetry and form. It is solid as a rock and has that inviting white look, which is so pleasing to the lovers of this fine vegetable. The O'Connell Centennial. A Herakl special says that yesterday the Fenian Amnesty Association, of Dublin, issued a proclamation calling on Irishmen to assemble by thousands to join in the O'Connell Centennial procession. At the end of the line they have resolved to carry banners inscribed, "remember the political prisoners," "God save Ireland." At the close of the march they will assemble around the O'Connell monument and present Lord Hogan's address to the people. It is believed that he will not deliver an oration unless assured of complete order. All public houses will be closed during the day. Four thousand troops are quartered in different parts of Dublin. Cardinal Calden issued a pastoral enjoining strict temperance by his people. Calden don't fear any difficulty. Notice. To all whom it may Concern: My wife, Tommasia Edhmann, has left my bed and board without just cause or prevention. All persons are warned against treating her on my account, as I will pay no bills contracted by her. Gospel Swamp, July 12th, 1875.
