Kleinigkeiten.
C. C. Angle has gone into the artesian well business. See his advertisement, new to-day.
Mr. J. M. Guinn, principal of the Anaheim Public Schools, is building a private residence upon his property on Center street.
Conrad has leased his saloon on Los Angeles street to Otto Evers. See notice in new advertisements. Otto will give a free lunch to night.
Angle and Mitchell are hard at it again and all about the same old horse. This time Justice Bailey will take cognizance of the case.
There has been a letter deposited in the post office addressed to Miss Mary Jones, Fairfield, Maine Centre, and the question is "Where is Fairfield?"
An important meeting of the stock-holders of the Bella Chica Wharf Company will be held today at 1 o'clock. All are requested to be present.
Clark & Austin have received a large invoice of smoking tobacco grown at Gilroy, and cigars manufactured from tobacco grown at the same place.
Judge Clark has formed a co-partnership with Clark & Austin. Their store has been enlarged and rebuilt, and hereafter the firm will transact a more general business. Their advertisement will appear next week.
We acknowledge with thanks for his kind remembrance the receipt of a complimentary ticket to the annual meeting of the Southern District Agricultural Society from the Secretary of the association, Major Truman.
The detectives are after him, and it is the private impression of some of them that he will be placed to stay in duramseville. But what's his name and whence he came and what he did we can tell but we will not, at least not until after he is caught.
Deputy Sheriff Byrd received on Tuesday a most formidable looking package from Los Angeles. Upon opening it, however, he found that the County Judge wanted the assistance of accident.-On Thursday whilst a couple of ladies were out driving in the vicinity of Mr. Field's residence, North-west of town, an accident happened, in which by great good fortune they escaped serious injuries. They were driving a new house, and the harness, having worked loose in some manner, caused him to commence kicking. Whilst this was going on one of the party attempted to get out in order to remove the incommoding portions of the harness, but unfortunately the horse commenced to run at that moment and dashed her violently to the ground. A short distance further on the other occupant was thrown out. Both ladies were severely bruised, although no serious injury was sustained by either.
ANAHEIM LANDING ITEMS.—"Generalissimo" writes us on Thursday from Anaheim Landing that: The rain last night was rather unexpected. We were fortunate enough however to get all the wool, which was stored on the wharf, in the lighters, so that none of it got wet. We think we and the wool men are in big luck....The warehouse of the Company is full of grain, so that teams will be compelled to stop hauling for a few days on account of there being no room....Martin Classen wishes me to say to you that he is the happy father of another fine boy, who made his appearance on last Tuesday. Martin thinks he will soon be able to furnish the Lighter Company an entire crew.
[We hope he will do it again and often; we refer to Generalissimo's production.] P. D.-l.]
THE RACES.—The entries for the Fall races over the track of the Southern District Agricultural Association have all been made, and we notice in the published list of entries the names of Excho., "The Moor," "Irene Harding," "Request," "Little Agnes," "Pancera," Pilot Chief," Monte-Belle," "Mission Belle," "Temaecula," "Nelly Gray," "Young America," and other crack trotters and runners. The fifth day has been set apart for an exhibition of lady equestrianism. The contest will be divided into two parts—grateful riding and daring equestrianism. Ten or more substantial premiums will be offered. Entries for the contest must be made to the Secretary of the Association, B. C. Truman, on or before the 15th instant.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS.—The Board of Supervisors met in regular
The detectives are after him, and it is the privy impression of some of them that he will be placed to try in durance vile. But what his name and who he came and what he did we can tell but we will not, at least not until after he is caught.
Deputy Sheriff Byol received on Tuesday a most formidable looking package from Los Angeles. Upon opening it, however, he found that the County Judge wanted the assistance of fifteen or twenty Anaheimers to clear his criminal docket.
Quite a number of our folks leave on the steamer Orizaba to mourn for San Francisco. Some of them, Messrs Goodman and Reiser, are called North upon business, and among the number are W. M. P. Plum and family, who contemplate an Eastern trip before their return.
Letters addressed to the following persons were remaining in W. S. Fargo & Co.'s Express Oct 9th 1874: B. Evey 2, P. Granet, J. Marlan J. B. Lanney, J. B. Parker, Mrs. C. L. Reynolds, Soon Kee 2. There were also packages as follows: J. B. Lanny, A. Bittner, C. Howe, Mrs. H. L. Keys.
Frank Lafocherie has been appointed Agent for the Coast Line Stage Company, and in connection with this momentous change in the affairs of man and beast he invites all lovers of the good things of life to one of those infamable free knacks tonight at the usual hour.
Certificates of stock, by-laws, receipts, bill-heads, letter-heads, cards, posters and every imaginable kind of printing done at the Southern California office in a workmanlike manner and at low rates. Our type are all new and of the latest design. Call and see specimens.
Judge Wiseman expresses himself as most agreeably surprised at the result of his wine-making experience. The knowing ones had told him that his vines, pruned according to an idea of his own, would yield much below the average, but as he will make between eight and ten thousand gallons of wine he inclines to the belief that they were in error.
Jason Smith, a shoemaker formerly of Anaheim, was found dead in a barranca near San Bacchaventura on Friday of last week. On examination a severe fracture was found on the back of his head, from which he had bleed freely. It is supposed that he came to his death from the fracture of the skull as he fell from the verge of the barranca. There is some suspicion of foul play.
The construction force engaged in laying track on the Anaheim Branch, are now within less than a mile from the New San Gabriel river. The track will be completed to that point early next week in order that material may be hauled and work commenced on the railroad bridge across the river. The grading force is now within four miles of town.
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS. — The Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Monday. All the members were present. It was ordered that the rate of taxation for the current fiscal year be fixed at $216 on each hundred dollars worth of taxable property. The subject of the bridge over the new San Gabriel river occupied the attention of the Board on Tuesday and was finally referred to Crawford and Knox with instructions to examine the different sites proposed and also the partially destroyed structure and report upon the same on Friday. Dr. Thi. Woolweber was elected upon the second ballot Public Administrator of the County; vice H. M. Mitchell resigned.
RAFTER — We publish through the courtesy of Mr. Langenberger, a letter from Chas. Kaiser which will explain itself. A Langenberger Esq.-Whereas I raised my oil paintings yesterday and no prizes came to Anaheim I have given to Mr. Mitchell a Germania Wacht am Rhein; for which the holders of tickets in your place may mailed without additional charge. The picture will be left on exhibition at Mrs. Brownersmith's. The names of ticket holders are Mrs. Lovecke, Mrs Brannermann, Mrs Kraomer, Dr D'Assonville, and Messrs Koll, Conrad, Bachs, Krooger, Mossman, Micenz, Langenberger, seubert, Reiser Zayn, Bittner and Mitchell.
LIST OF LETTERS — Letters were remaining in Anaheim Post-office, Oct 9th 1874, addressed to the following persons: Ranjon Aguilar, J. W. Arnold, Ygnacio Alviso, M. Allen, H. The following deeds were filed in the County Recorder's office during the past week: C. B. Layman to R. Thorpe—77 acres Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana; $1,088...A. B. Chapman to B. H. Reaves—50 acres in Richland; $846...W. S. Tidwell to A. Glassell—40 acres in Santiago de Santa Ana; $1,000...S. Menzel et al to Chas Hille—Lot on Centre Street; $325.
We would call attention to the advertisement of Higby & Collum who have recently purchased from N. H. Mitchell the Pioneer Livery stable. Both gentlemen are too widely and favorably known in the county to need other notice than the mere fact of their having engaged in business to insure them an ample share of home patronage. One department of their livery business however will be exclusively devoted to the accommodation of tourists and invalid visitors, and to the attention of this class of patrons we would especially recommend the new firm.
We had the pleasure this week, of an introduction to R. S. Farrelly, Esp., Treasurer of Alameda County, who was in town looking after a land investment made by him in this section a year or two ago. Mr. Farrelly, as an old resident of Oakland, and as a California pioneer, has witnessed all the magical changes, which have transformed the sand hills and marshes within the Golden Gate into estates of princely revenue, and is, therefore, not easily taken by surprise. He admits however, that he had formed no conception of the out-come, which is now manifesting itself in the Santa Ana valley, and endorses with enthusiasm all that has been said or written concerning our climate and our agricultural resources.
RITE OF CONFIRMATION. — Right Reverend Bishop Klip of the diocese of California, will arrive here by stage tonight and after morning service tomorrow will administer the rite of confirmation to the baptised non-communicants of his church, residing in this vicinity. Episcopal service will be held at the usual hour of the morning at Enterprise Hall and there also will be an additional service at 7:30 p.m. The Bishop will be assisted by Rev. Mr. Loop of San Gabriel.
THE WEATHER. — Quite a sharp shower on Wednesday afternoon, followed by a second and more copious rain early on Thursday morning, heralded the near advent of the rainy season. For several hours after the cessation of the showers, the wind blew very hard from the South-east, and since that time the weather has been extremely sultry, resembling mid-Summer more than the middle of October. The rain-fall was an eighth of an inch.
CHURCH MEETING. — We have been requested to state that after the usual prayer and conference meeting of tomorrow at the Presbyterian Church there will be held a business session upon matters relating to the religious welfare of the Church. The attendance of all officers and members is earnestly requested.
IRRIGATING DITCH. — The owners of the San Joaquin rancho have determined upon the construction of a ditch, whereby the waters of the Santiago Creek will be conducted over their lands, near the Adobe station.

A NEW DAILY.
Now many times does 50 go into 226,000. It is 200 times. Well cast is a good per cent. for California. Will the last "lead" ever pay so much? Certainly not. But there are probabilities that an investment of dollars made to the last Grand Gift Conveyance in aid of the Public Library of Kentucky, pay that per cent, in somebody. Why and how none of us? And then we have only to wait to 30th of November for the result.
The Idea of a Universal Medicine is almost realized in Dr. Walker's California Vineyard Bitters. This concentrated essence of the most medicinal herbs and roots in the Western transpiration, eratheat all diseases which have undermined the sources of vitality, and in arsenic Indigestion, Nervous Headache, Composition of the Liver, Rheumatism, Gout, General Debility, and innumerable ulcers and wards disorders, it is a specifie absolute and fatal.

The Crucial Test of a medicine is time. Does experience confirm the claims put forth in its favor at the Inquiry? Is the grand question. Apply this criterion so simple; yet so searching to Tarant's Seltzer Apeient. How has it worn? What has been its history? How does it stand to day?
Tarrant's Seltzer Apient is a household name throughout the United States. It is administered as a specific, and with success, in dyspepsia, sick headache, nervous debility, liver complaint, billious remittents bowel complaints (especially constipation), rheumatism, gout, gravel, nausea, the complaints peculiar to the maternal sex, and all types of inflammation. So mild is its operation that it can be given with perfect safety to the fittest child; and so agreeable is it to the nasty so refreshing to the palate, that children never refuse to take it. For sale by all druggists.
