The export merchant is still acquainted, and our leading seller is late part of the time, and the millions themselves exhibit very little disposition to buy Whales at current prices; without an exception they prefer to let the farmers carry their own land the promised sums, the millions buying only to acquire goods accumulated, that like the shipwreck no conditions in the maintenance of current values for such large vessels in Liverpool incl downward. He sends them to the mediterranean unanticipated. The Star Mall, Yelpete, is still running at its usual rate, but it suffers some double its present working conditions. A LITTLE LOVE AFFAIR—When James Lick was a young man, he fell in love with a miller a daughter in Pennsylvania. Young Lick faced the stern old miller and asked for the head of his daughter. Now James was a poor young man, but honest and industrious, and withal full of pride. The old man refused to grant James' request, and advised him not to "marry until he had a competency to support a wife." These remarks were rather humiliating to young Lick's pride, and with emphasis he replied,"Sir, I shall see the day when your boasted mill would not make a respectable wheat 'bin' for the one that I shall own." Years passed and James Lick erected in Santa Clara County, California, a mill, the machinery of which is solid mahogany. Shortly after its erection he had photographs taken of the inside and outside of his mill and sent them to the miller who had refused him the hand of his daughter. THE WAGER—Two or three years ago Mr. Lick contracted with Frank Hamilton, of Santa Clara County, to put in a large crop of wheat in a field near San Jose. The work done, Hamilton called for his pay. Lick refused to pay, as he alleged that the work was not done according to contract Hamilton brought suit and won. Lick appealed to the higher court, and again lost. A friend met Hamilton and said that "Lick would pay him in greenbacks." "No," replied Hamilton,"he is not that kind of a man. We are friends and have been for years, and he regrets this little unpleasantness as much as I do, but honestly believes he is right, and inasmuch as he is defeated, he will pay the amount in gold." "Well," said Hamilton's friend,"I'll bet you ten dollars he pays you in greenbacks." The money was put up, and Hamilton lost—Lick paid in currency. Meeting Lick one day in San Jose, Hamilton said,"It is not the loss of the money that I regret, but the high appreciation of you as a man. I bet ten dollars on your manhood and lost." For many years though of effect to keep up this old-time figure, but the trade by affording him small damages. He longer than that of manhood has been afforded also. She was taken up insensible and carried to a neighboring dwelling to be cared for. About two years ago she came to this place to live near her brother, a farmer in the town, and during that time her jaws have been so completely closed that she was obliged to use liquid food entirely; her tongue so confined and useless that no one could understand her talk. For this reason she has always answered questions by writing on a slate, and from a paralysis of the limb she has constantly used a crutch and cane to move about the house. There seemed to be no particular improvement in her case for the last three or four years, and having tried the best medical skill in Chicago without much benefit, she had about concluded that she was fated to live a long, helpless life a paralytic, without any hope of relief from human agency at least. Every long time the Pacific coast has been in need of just such an establishment as Colonial Andrew is now dating up in San Francisco. He has already accumulated a fortune, and is now determined to have the finest jewels in the world for the sake of guilding his new tasks for the grand and beautiful. For many years there has been a combination of effort to keep up the pristine quality of the old-time fashion, but the Colonial has nightmared the trade by offering his goods at wholesale prices to small dealers. He says his trade is now larger than that of most of the wholesale dealers, hence he can afford to sell lower than any one else. Another feature of his establishment is the one price system. If a child is sent to the store for an article, the change is just the same as to a person who knows the value of what he is purchasing. His reputation for business is such that he daily subsists orders from all parts of the country. He informed us that he received from ten to twenty orders per day. He sends goods by Wells, Pargo & Co., with the privilege of examination before paying for them. Two or three watches sent to any person with the chance of making a selection. He has also attached to his establishment a watch-making department, in which he employs six of the best diamond setters and watchmakers in the United States. Every article he sends out is guaranteed for two years. We cheerfully recommend the Colonel to our country readers. I immediately met my daughter to your office to get some, which she did, and I commenced drinking it at once. At the end of the second week I had a little swollen but at the end of the second week I had swollen much as to be able to dress myself and went out and got shared. Your letter of inquiry concerning my experience with the water of the Aqua Vinn Springs, and the benefits received. I will be burden suffering with Bleeding Flesh for over 15 years, and during a part of the time was so bad that I could scarcely move. Any little over exertion at any time was sufficient to bring me down. During the fall I had stalled a lot of hogs, and when they got fat, I prepared to butcher. I engaged a night to go to sons and sisters last week and was then known as John Laanxwert or Big Boiling Spring. I had been treading the job for a long time, for I knew that it would lay we up completely. Well, the appointed day came to November, and I am very freely of the spring in my life today to my great surprise evil effects from my labor, and I began to express my wonder, when my neighbor, Mr. Doggar, suggested that it, perhaps, was owing to the Spring Water that I drank. I could hardly think it possible, but concluded that I would test it and see. I commanded the water, drinking it until it was cool and soothing and nothing yet. I soon acquired a taste and got my longing oftimes was so great that I would get out of bed at night and go to the Spring a quarter of a mile off, and get water. The craving continued until I was entirely cared. The water leaves a pleasant taste in the mouth—though it is somewhat pleasant to drink at night. I got well I craved it no more than any other water. In about a month I was entirely carved and have not been troubled once. I mentioned the matter to others similarly and otherwise afflicted, who tried the water for different complaints, and in nearly every case, with great success. I never fully on the kidney, has worked like a charm. I could mention many cases for which the water has been used, and with great success, but lack of time forids. But I will cheerfully give more particulars to any party who desires it. I am very glad that you propose shipping it to the Head Center of the Coast, as it will be well in the reach of many who are not able to visit the spring in person. Very respectfully yours. The first time I used it for three weeks, and during that time the cramps left me, and I think had I continued the use of it then should have been entirely cared, but the winter set in, and the rushes were so bad I could not go after any of the water. I also experienced that time, I had however; but no expiration of that time, I had another load of water and used it up, and I am now enjoying as good health as can be expected for an old man of fifty-five years. I have never used any other spring water but yours Please accept my sincere thanks for the benefits I have received from it. You're very sorry. M.
