Cucamonga Vineyard
Special Correspondence of the Los Angeles County
A ride of a couple of brought me, in company, with Bridger, of the Chino, to the known vineyard, which was nearly thirty years ago, original founder, I know save from hearsay. His friends long ago saw him lay to his everlasting sleep, and day bear tribute to his many generous qualities. The Cucamonga ranch originally consisted about 14,500 acres; but as ent segregated, Mr. I. W. H. of Los Angeles, owns 8,000 the Cucamonga Company, (ociation of San Francisco cap 5,000 acres); the vineyard consists of Jno. G. H. Ben Dreyfus, of Anaheim Messrs I. W. and I. M. H. 608 acres; the remainder homestead of the family; original proprietor. I understand that it is the intention of the Francisco company to sell their portion and offer it for some future period. The vines has for some years past because the management of Mr. Saul and the wine has attained favorable reputation.

The latest improvements in manufacture of wine and beer will be introduced, and the known reputation of "Cucamonga" will doubtless be materialized. The price paid for vineyard property was, I am told, about $35,000. In my what extensive tour through region I have nowhere seen any yard which presented a fine pearance than Cucamonga foliage of the vines was just recently advanced in growth sent an even surface of green over the whole extension. Not a woed disfigured the which careful cultivation had derided almost as smooth and hardy a ball room floor. That the proprietors intend to make valuable estate one of the properties in Southern California must be evident from the fact they have this year planted foreign grape vines. The 160,000 bearing vines on the at present. They have also this season 1,200 orange, lemon tine trees, and 3,000 English berry will continue to add other time to time. They have exchanged nurseries of young trees up properly. Cucamonga Vineyard.
Side of a couple of hours at me, in company with Mr. of the Chino, to this well vineyard, which was planted thirty years ago. Of its real founder, I know nothing from hearsey. His many long ago saw him laid away overlasting sleep, and to this ear tribute to his manly and us qualities. The Cucamonga Company originally consisted of 14,500 acres; but as at presegregated, Mr. I. W. Hellman, San Angeles, owns 8,000 acres; Cucamonga Company, (an assoc. of San Francisco capitalists) acres; the vineyard company, king of Jno. G. Downey, Dreyfus, of Anaheim, and I. W. and I. M. Hellman, acres; the remainder is the head of the family of the proprietor. I understand is the intention of the San Francisco company to subdivide portion and offer it for sale at mature period. The vineyard for some years past been under management of Mr. Sansevain, the wine has attained a very stable reputation. Under the track. She was not more than half through the cut, and barely a quarter of a mile ahead of him. He immediately whistled down brakes and then sounded the warning. The woman, hearing the peculiar death whistle of the locomotive, looked over her shoulder and saw the train rushing at her. She did not shriek nor faint, nor give up all hope, but like a true Webfoot, her courage equal to the emergency, and without a moment's hesitation, she commenced swinging her riding-whip from one shoulder of her sterd to the other, thereby urging him to exert his utmost speed. The whip, and perhaps the shrinking of the steam whistle, caused the animal ridden by the lady to put in his best licks, and he made about as rapid time as ever seen in Oregon; but each instant the iron-horns gained upon the one composed of blood and muscle. The shrieking of the locomotive's whistle caused the passengers to look out of the windows, and upon their discovering what was the matter, the wildest excitement ensued. Several jumped forward and seized the bell-rope, and commenced pulling on it, as if they could stop the train by that means. The brakemen were exerting all their strength on the brakes and

I understand it is the intention of the San Francisco company to subdivide proportion and offer it for sale at auction period. The vineyard for some years past been under management of Mr. Sansevain, the wine has attained a very stable reputation. Under the prime, which will be under the supervision of Mr. Dreyfus, greatest improvements in the structure of wine and brandy have introduced, and the well-reputed "Cucamonga" doubtless be materially enlarged. The price paid for the land property was, I am informd about $35,000. In my some-extensive tour through this vineyard nowhere seen a vine which presented a finer appearance even surface of delicate cover over the whole extensive area weed disfigured the ground; careful cultivation had renalmost as smooth and level as room floor. That the new visitors intend to make their sole estate one of the finest cities in Southern California they evident from the fact that have this year planted 40,000 grape vines. There are 10 bearing vines on the place present. They have also planted season 1,200 orange, lemon and cherries, and 3,000 English walnuts will continue to add others from time. They have extensive varieties of young trees upon the city. In point of natural location Cucamonga can easily dispute the palm with state I have visited. The mountain stream I have seen down from the adjacent hills. Supply of water is ample for resturing purposes, and the road front of the estate may feet in one thousand. Mr. Bain, the former proprietor, from business with a stock of gallons of wine on hand. My point was brief and my counties for observation limit that I saw enough to convince that the stories which I had of the beauty and fertility of Cucamonga ranch were by no exaggerated. The Grangers and the Centennial.
Among the matters discussed and acted upon by the recent Grangers' Convention, was the Centennial Exposition. The farmers represented in this body, by their action, have shown that they desire to make this Exposition a success. That all the industries of each and every State should be fully represented, and with that view, have already appointed a committee who will soon enter upon the work of preparation of gathering not only valuable information relating to the industries of our State, but also to see that a grand showing is made of California productions. The following is an official copy of the resolutions adopted:

Passenger train on the Oregon California Railroad was lately going at the height of its speed Salem, Oregon, in order to keep time, as it was a few minutes old. The road at this place through a cut something more mile in length, and in enters the road makes a curve so the engineer cannot see entirely through it. So as he thundered, he little thought what stir-times were before him. He hardly got into the cut before saw a woman riding leisurely through it, and with perfect nonce, using the centre of the
