Values are unchanged. Outside brands of Extra can be purchased at $4 50, while City Extras command $124 75. Golden Gate, Golden Age, and Starr Mills Extra silk-dress are jobbing at $5@5 12; p 196 fls.
WHEAT.
The export movement is large at steady prices. Cargo sales for the United Kingdom making at $1 52l@1 55 for "average." Wheat receipts from the interior are to date some 750,000 cts less than for the same period last year (Flour Included), while our exports for the same period are about equal in quantity to last season, yet much less in value. Liverpool quotations November 17th, for spot parcels are given at 9s 3d@10s for average, 10s 3d@10s 9d for club. In 1873, same date, 12s 16l up to 13s 6d for club; 1872, 12s 4d@13s 3d. With us at this date, the range of the market is $1 25@1 55 pctl.
BARLEY.
The Eastern demand is very considerable, yet the desired quality is difficult to procure, heavy and bright, while much difficulty is experienced in procuring freight cars for its transmission across the continent. In consequence of these difficulties and obstructions a much less quantity will be sent to Chicago than would otherwise go forward. There is, however, considerable shipping to New York by sea, some three or more ships to take supplies for that mart. Choice new bright Brewing has been sold as high as $1 40 pctl, and bright Chevallier at $1 75. The market closing firm at $1 15@1 37pctl. At the close, 3,317 cts prime Coast ex Ivanhoe sold at $1 20.

WOOL.
The Stockton Independent asks why California Wool rules so much less in New York, Boston and Philadelphia than Wool from other States. In the first place California Wools are sold unwashed—we have few or no facilities on this coast for washing sheep, as is the case in New York, Ohio etc. Again we Californians shear our sheep twice a year, other States named only once, consequently our staple is much shorter than Eastern clips. The fall clip of this coast is 4@5 months growth, the spring clip 6@8 months. The average loss in weight on California Wools when tub-washed is 62@65 per cent. Then California Wools have more or less Alfilerilla seed and buer, which are very objectionable. Some of the dirtiest parcels of Southern Wools loose 75@80 per cent. in washing. Now, then, with all these disadvantages, wool growers have no cause for complaint. It is without doubt more for their interest to sell their clips ("as is") dirt and all, than it would be had they the facilities for washing their flocks. It is not unfrequently the case that large flocks of sheep in the Southern Coast counties are enveloped for hours in sand storms and clouds of dust, that load the fleece with sand and earth, thus adding a pound or more in weight to the fleece. This, then, is the true explanation of the case. Some of our Northern clips, as well Oregon, are exempt from these illusions, which accounts for the difference in values. In this connection it should be stated that Texas Wools rule less than California and Colorado still lose, owing the bad condition of the fleeces. The only thing that can be said with reference to the market is that scattering parcels of choice are being sold at quotations but the bulk of the Fall clip, amounting to 28,000 or 30,000 bales, remains here awaiting buyers. It seems to be impossible to start buyers to take hold freely, no matter what concessions are made. Our quotations can therefore be considered nominal, and not particularly applicable to the large stock of heavy hare for sale. The sales for the week in lots aggregate 228,000 units for choice, 15@14 for Harry and Shirley, 15@18 for free—all of the Fall clip. The market is closing very dull.
