The County Division Convention.
On next Saturday the first public meeting of the advocates of County Division will be held in order to discuss and adopt the best method to accomplish this greatly desired object and to properly organize their forces for the ensuing campaign. Since the call for the convention was first published three weeks ago, the matter has been thoroughly discussed, in all its bearings. It seems to be the universal opinion that, in order to effect the division of the County, it will be necessary for us to have in the next Legislature a known advocate of this measure and that he must during his candidacy openly and at all times announce his intention to introduce a division bill in the Assembly, if elected. To select some person, the most popular, and who can best harmonize the two political parties, as that candidate will be one of the objects of the meeting. Another important question to be considered will be the future boundary of the two counties. The chief reason for the defeat of the bill in 1869-70 was the strong opposition which was shown to exist in the settlement between the two San Gabriel rivers. If that opposition should still manifest itself, it would in all probability conduce to our success to make the New San Gabriel river the boundary line, leaving Los Nietos with the county of Los Angeles. At any rate by adopting this river as our boundary we destroy their opposition and should they desire to secede also, lines can be differ-
The chief reason for the defeat of the bill in 1869-70 was the strong opposition which was shown to exist in the settlement between the two San Gabriel rivers. If that opposition should still manifest itself, it would in all probability conduct to our success to make the New San Gabriel river the boundary line, leaving Los Nietos with the county of Los Angeles. At any rate by adopting this river as our boundary we destroy their opposition and should they desire to secede also, lines can be differently defined in the future.
Every one who attends this convention should determine to sacrifice individual opinion to the will of the majority, in order that all may work harmoniously together for one common end. With harmony of purpose and unity of action we can accomplish much; with division, either personal or political, in our ranks. It will be impossible to secure a division of the county.
Thermometrical and Hygrometrical Record for March.
We present to our readers below our usual record of the wet and dry bulbs of of the hygrometer, prepared by Mr. Francis S. Miles of this place.
The bolsterous month of March makes a very favorable showing in this favored climate. Whilst the Snow-king has been clothing the North-western states with a wintry garb of white, balmy zephyrs and cloudless, sunny days have arrayed the vineyards in their summer garments of emerald green and filled the air with the perfumed fragrance from our orange orchards. Truly this is the land "Where the flowers ever blossom, the beams ever shine."
EDITORIAL NOTES.
Complaint after complaint has reached our ears of the tardy delivery of inward freights, and the general absence of all system in the shipping operations at Anaheim Landing. Our attention has been particularly called to the fact that undoubtedly dear to the heart of every American citizen. As public censors, was the bounden duty of these journals condemn the wrong, and to denounce the doer. Influenced by a petty feeling perennial pique, they not only failed perform their duty, but showed themselves ready and willing to sacrifice the public upon the altar of private spite. The action on their part will redound to the discredit in the future, and will most surely recoil only upon themselves.

EDITORIAL NOTES.
Complaint after complaint has reached our ears of the tardy delivery of inward freights, and the general absence of all system in the shipping operations at Anaheim Landing. Our attention has been particularly called to the fact that during the past week the town has been deprived of coal oil because it pleased the agent to leave outside a lighter, loaded with kerosene and other merchandise, whilst there was being discharged a lighter, laden with empty pipes, which are to be used sometime during the next Fall. The Anaheim Lighter Company, in its capacity of common carrier, owes certain duties to all its patrons, but more particularly to the merchants who make use of it to obtain their goods. It is the servant of the people and should instruct its servant—the agent—whilst using perfect impartiality with all, to so perform the duties incumbent upon him as to best protect and subserve the interests of the shipping community. We believe that at present the only fault to be attributed to the company is an ignorance of this intention. We would advise the agent to bestow less attention to his own hard-worked condition and to give more time to the affairs of the patrons of his employers; in a word to growl less and work more. In this way he can probably silence the complaints continually made concerning delays in receiving freights and concerning goods received in damaged condition.
The Cuban patriots, after four long years of disaster and misfortune, have by their recent victories again been brought prominently into notice. Often beaten but never vanquished, fighting always with ropes around their necks, homeless, houseless, hunted with dogs, ever hoping even against hope, they have by perseverance and fixedness of purpose demonstrated that with them the love of liberty was
