Ye local hath been to school, not "to get in tellect put into him" but in search of items. And he found one there. Those bideous old wooden monstrosities ylept desks, that have so long disgraced the Grammar School room have given place to the neatest, prettiest, and most comfort able thing we have ever seen in the line of school furniture.
THE TRUMPH DESK manufactured by Andrews & Co., of Chicago, Libby & Sweet, of San Francisco, being Agents for the Pacific Coast. As its name indicates it is a trumph in the school furniture line. The desk and seats are constructed of alter-nate slats of Cherry and Black Walnut, and are shaped so as to secure the greatest comfort and ease to the scholar. The seat is attached to the main part of the desk by a noiseless hinges and can be folded up against the back part of the desk when not in use. This noiseless hinge arrangement gives a springiness and elasticity that must be very agreeable to ye' youngster in pursuit of knowledge. There is also attached to the castings of the desk an adjustable foot rest where the weary pedal extremities can repose. As ye local gazed upon these contrivances for the comfort of the rising generation his memory wandered back to

Annual Stockholder's Meeting of the Anaheim Lionin
Company. The yearly meeting of
the Anaheim Lighter Company
which had been portioned until
Monday, Dec. 9th, was held on that
day at the office of the Water Company. Vice Pres. Lorenz in the chair.
Minutes of meeting of 1771 were report and approved. Reports of the
officers of the company were read
and referred to a committee composed of A. Langenberger, John
Fisher, and J. Beannerscheid, for
inspectors with instructions to respond immediately. C. Lorerz, F.A.
Corn, Jno P'Zeyn, A.Langenberger,
and Jno Fischer, were elected Trusties for the ensuing year.
Our friend Ben Dreyfus of the
Pen of B Dreyfus & Co. New York
or San Francisco on Wednesday. He had under his charge Mrs
and Miss Hecht, of San Francisco,
and Miss Weil, of Baltimore, who
have been rusticating for a few
weeks past. It is always with deep
regret that, as each year's vintage
season is ended, we bid Mr. D.
"an revoir." His warm heart and
his generous hospitality to those
whom he has honored with his
friendship must be known to be
truly appreciated. His absence
would create a void in our social
circle not easily filled; did we not
know that it is his intention on his
return in the Spring to establish himself permanently in Anaheim.
"Bon voyage, bon succes et bon retour."

Christmas Festivities. Preparations are already being made to
celebrate in an appropriate manner
the coming holidays. Max Nobeling, of the Anaheim Hotel, will
give a ball on Christmas night, and
on Sylvester eve, Fischer invites his
friends to join him in welcoming
the birth of the New Year. These
gentlemen are so well known that
ness and elasticity that must be very
agreeable to "ye" youngster in purmit of knowledge. There is also attached to the castings of the desk an adjustable foot rest where the weary pedal extremities can repose. As ye local gazed upon these contrivances for the comfort of the rising generation his memory wandered back to
"The days of Auld Lang Syne"
the good old days (over the left) when he was school boy. The temple of knowledge where he worshipped then was a diminutive structure of unhewn logs shingled "with shake." His Trumph desk was the soft side of a pine slab, the only noiseless hinge about it the joints of his vertebrae, his only foot rest nether air, and as with back bent, shoulders humped, heads down, roosting upon that slab, he conned his lessons or concocted mischief what a delight it was for ye ancient pedagogue to walk down the line with his omnipresent birch and stimulate our understandings, for these were the good old days when ye ancient pedagogue—
"Your youngsters pate to stimulate
He beats ye tother end."
The old desks of the grammar school have been cut down and patched up for the Primary school. In this we suppose our Educational stepfathers have followed the example of economical mammas when they make a new pair of pants for little bubby out of big Tom's old ones, but for the life of us we cannot see why the little Primary should not have a Trumph desk as well as the big Grammar school master or miss.
Christmas. We have been re-quested to call the attention of the good people of Anaheim, to the fact that on Monday Evening, Dec. 16th there will be a preliminary meeting held in the Reading Room, in the rear of Clark's Book Store, for the purpose of appointing committees, and making the necessary arrangements, in regard to the Christmas Tree, to be erected in the lower part of the Masonic Hall. The Ladies of Anaheim and vicinity, are especially invited without obstruction or without delay.

Christmas Activities—Preparations are already being made to celebrate in an appropriate manner the coming holidays. Max Nebeling of the Anaheim Hotel will give a ball on Christmas night, and on Sylvester eve, Fischer invites his friends to join him in welcoming the birth of the New Year. These gentlemen are so well known that it is almost unnecessary to advertise their "shops." That every one will enjoy themselves to the fullest extent does not admit or doubt.
New Goods—We would invite the attention of the public to the new stock of goods just opened by Steinhart & Bro. These gentlemen are old residents of Anaheim, and have the reputation of keeping always the best of everything in their line. Give them a call.
Go it, Yk Criffles—Consignees of merchandise per steamer Orizaba are required to deposit 15 per cent of the value of their invoices to cover the general average adjustment to be made in San Francisco.
Tom & Jerry at Anaheim Hotel
The attention of the public is invited to the carib J. L. Ward & Co. The fame of Los Angeles County bringing to the need of a shipping company they could place confessor. Users Ward & Co., have gaduall acquired that confidence by heirrompt transaction of all usine entrusted to them. Such proders would do well to greet them all.
Free lunch at Anaheim Hotel tonight.
Accident—On Monday last, our well known sober friend; "Mishther" Finnegan whilst working on R. Melrose's well, fell in and struck upon a scantling near the bottom of the well. The scantling was broken and otherwise badly injured. Finnegan takes his bithers as usual—when he can get them.
Agricultural Meeting at Richland.—The Richland Agricultural Club held a meeting in the School House at Richland on Tuesday evening. There was quite a large attendance, at least fifty persons being present. They were addressed at length by Thos. A Garey of Los Angeles.
If you want a square meal, go to the "Challenge Restaurant."
New Ditch—Irvine, Flint & Co. are constructing a ditch in the Santiago Canon, to irrigate the trast upon which the old ranch house is located. In their survey they have kept the ditch well up on the hillside in order that, should there be a sufficient quantity of water, the ditch may be extended across the foot hills to the San Joaquin plain good people of Anaheim, to the fact that on Monday Evening, Dec. 16th there will be a preliminary meeting held in the Reading Room, in the rear of Clark's Book Store, for the purpose of appointing committees, and making the necessary arrangements, in regard to the Christmas Tree, to be erected in the lower part of the Masonic Hall. The Ladies of Anaheim and vicinity, are especially invited, as without their co-operation, the affair can hardly become a success.

NEWSPAPER LAW,
1. Subscribers who do not give express notice
to the contrary are considered as wishing to continue their subscription.
2. If subscribers wish their paper discontinued
a publisher may continue to send them until all
charges are paid.
3. If subscribers neglect or refuse to take the
papers from the office or place where they are sent
they are responsible until they settle their bill and
give notice to discontinue them.
4. If subscribers move to other places without
forming the publisher and the paper is sent to
the former direction, they are held responsible.
Notice of removal should always be given.
5. The courts have decided that refusing to
take a paper or periodical from the office, or removing and leaving it unsailed far, is prima facie evidence of intentional fraud.
ALWAYS SUCCESSFUL — While others of ten fail, Mr A. E. Putney almost invariably succeeds in finding a good argentian stream the first trial, without extra expense to his employmen. This is partly owing to his long experience and peculiar knowledge of the business and also the superior power of his boiling tools which enables him to go through strata that are impassible to others. His address is Anaheim.
