Good Corn.
Big corn is no curiosity to people here, who can see it any day, but our friends of colder climates are not equally favored in this respect. With only the results of their long winter and short summer before them, they can probably scarcely realize how large corn will grow in a country where there is practically no winter. Mr. J. D. Taylor, of Fairview (1 mile west of Anaheim) sends us a couple of stalks of corn, with six large ears, which, although not extraordinary here, are perhaps large enough to look well away from home. The taller stalk is just 15 feet in height, besides the tassel, which was broken off, and the lowest ear was ten and a half feet above the ground. The other stalk is only a few inches shorter. The ears are very large, solid and well filled. This corn was planted June 15th, on land that had raised a crop of barley the same year. There is doubtless corn considerably larger than this, near Anaheim, and we would feel obliged to our friends if they would send us samples of their best, that we might publish the results for the information of people of other states.

The Old Time Again.—On Monday last the stages of Seeley & Wright's San Diego & Los Angeles line were changed back to the old time, much to the satisfaction of all our citizens, to whom it is vastly more convenient than the schedule lately adopted. The northern mail now arrives at noon and goes south at 1 P.M. The Southern stage comes in at 9:30, giving plenty of time to get your letters in in the morning. Charlie, consider us much obliged.
Timely Notice.—We invite attention to the polite notice given today in the advertisement of Messrs Goodman & Rimpan, that all accounts due them must be settled on or before January 1st. These gentlemen have been exceedingly courteous and obliging to all their friends and it is but simple justice to them to liquidate promptly all indebtedness by the close of the year.
A gentleman named J Keymolen has commenced to make wine in this city, out of grapes, by a new process. He claims that it will revolutionize the business, and that he produces an excellent quality of wine in eight days.—Star.
Major Ben. C. Truman, late of the San Diego Bulletin and who has for a few months past worthily filled the local editorship of the Los Angeles Express. has retired from the latter paper and, with his wife, goes East.

THANKGIVING—Is near, but it amounts to nothing without the traditional turkey and cranberry sauce. The turkey you can rip almost any where, but the cranberries can only be had at Calisher's.
THE BALL.—All will remember the grand ball to morrow evening at Enterprise Hall. Good music, good supper and prompt attention to the comfort of guests may be relied on.

A New York dispatch, of 22d inst., says that preparations are being made in the Colonies of British North America to hold mass meetings in favor of annexation to the United States. Organizations in favor of annexation are said to be in existence all over the Dominion.
