Southern Californian SATURDAY ... NOV. 22, 1872 From Wednesday's Semi-Weekly. Encourage Tree-Planting. We publish on the outside of this issue a circular from the State Board of Agriculture which explains itself. The planting of trees is certainly of immense value, especially in this comparatively treeless country, and we do not know that our Supervisors could do a better thing for the advancement of our local interest than to designate impartially some localities in different parts of the county where the experiment could be tried. There are several advantages which we can see would be likely to result from it. First:—The offer is made only to those who own land on the public roads &c., and if the premium for planting is considered anything of an object it would encourage the purchase of small tracts for home stead along our public highways, and ensure their speedy improvement and adornment with those finest of all nature's ornaments—trees. Second:—The four years time required to get the reward would tend to make such settlers more permanent than they otherwise might be, and discourage the ruinous habit of moving about from one section to another. The New Offices.—The new of fice heretofore mentioned as in process of construction by J. W. Clark, Esq., on Center st., in front of the old building of the Anaheim Water Co., are now about completed and are being occupied. The building forms a very neat addition to the business portion of town and with its neat rustic front and plank sidewalk makes a most desirable filling-up of what used to be an inconvenient gap in the line of business and travel. The whole building is 39 ft. front x 14 in depth, and has cost over 8500. It is divided into three neat offices, two of which are 14 ft square, the other 11 x 14. One room is already occupied by Mr. Clark, a second is engaged for the office of the Los Angeles & San Bernardino Land Co., (Wm. R. Olden, Agt.) and the third apartment is still open for a tenant. The "Anaheim."—As will be noted elsewhere, this popular house has undergone a change of proprietors. Mr. Nebelung, the new host, is one THE "ANAUEM."—As will be noted elsewhere, this popular house has undergone a change of proprietors. Mr Nebelung, the new host, is one of the rising young men of our community, and is favorably known to the business public as formerly a clerk of the Anaheim Lighter Co. and more recently with Heimann & George. He will do his best to sustain the well-earned reputation of the house and add to its already long list of friends. Mrs Bremermann, the accomplished wife of the former proprietor, will still superintend the lodging and kitchen departments and the public may rest assured that under her able supervision nothing which can conduce to their comfort will be left undone. THE WILLIAM TABER—Extensive repairs and alterations are in progress on the Taber, which will occupy some little time. As soon as she is in order the owners design to put her on this line in opposition to the Pacific Mail.—Santa Barbara Index. Big Well,—Frank Adams has lately bored an artesian well on the land of Mr Sutton in Sycamore Grove, striking at 120 feet in a bed of solid, coarse gravel a stream of water which flows 14 inches over the pipe and affords 28 inches of water, miners measurement.
