SATURDAY ... OCT. 26, 1872
For Water Overseer.
We take pleasure in calling attention to the announcement of Mr M O Boyle, as a candidate for this office. We should have a man who understands the business, no matter what his political proclivities may be. The election of an incompetent person would be a public calamity for he would waste the public money in misdirected efforts at a work he did not understand, and those needing the water would fail after all their trouble and expense, to get the requisite supply. Mr Boyle is one of those pioneer Californians, whose long mining experience has made him intimately acquainted with the best methods of conducting and controlling water, and being a gentleman of active and industrious habits we feel confident that he would discharge the duties of the office to the entire satisfaction of all concerned.

Departing.—Amid all our hopes and pleasant prospects for the future, it is with a feeling of deep regret that we note the fact that one of our most esteemed citizens, with his amiable and accomplished lady, are about leaving us to make their home in the northern part of the state. We refer to Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Swayne, a gentleman and lady who, though of short residence here, have by many noble qualities of mind and heart endeared themselves to all who were fortunate enough to make their acquaintance. We are sorry to part with them, but we wish them God speed and a happy and prosperous future wherever their lot may be cast hereafter. They leave this morning, overland, for their new home, Davisville Salem.
