SATURDAY ... OCT. 12. 1872
From Wednesday's Semi-Weekly.
Democrats! Rally!!
Ex-Governor Jno. G. Downey and Dr. J. Campbell Shorb, both of them eloquent and distinguished speakers, will be here to morrow evening to address the people upon the political situation. Give them a good reception.
Personals.
We had the pleasure, last Monday, of meeting Mr. L. C. Pollard, of Gallatin. He gives it as his opinion that nineteenth of the people of his neighborhood favor the San Diego Railroad proposition in preference to the rival project.
Mr Pedro Blanco returned last Friday evening from one of his regular trading trips to Arizona.
Republican Speaking.
Hon's J. F. Swift and James G. Eastman—gentlemen of high reputation as speakers—will speak here on Saturday evening next, (instead of Tuesday, 15th inst., as previously announced.)
Deeds Filed.
Monday, Oct. 8.—S S Dunnell to DM Dorman; right, title and interest to share with title binders.
Hon's J. F. Swift and James G.
Eastman—gentlemen of high reputation as speakers—will speak here on Saturday evening next, (instead of Tuesday, 15th inst., as previously announced.)
Deeds Filed.
Monday, Oct. 8.—S S Dunnell to D M Dorman; right, title and interest to wharf and tide lands of the harbor of Newport, for $200.
Alfred Robinson, trustee, to Amander Ruggles; 50'06-100 acres in the Los Coyotes ranch, for $708-72.
B F Nimmo to Marcus II Wright; 20 acres in the Santiago de Santa Ana ranch, for $200.
Always Successful.—While others often fail, Mr A. E. Putney almost invariably succeeds in finding a good artist stream the first trial, without extra expense to his employers. This is partly owing to his long experience and peculiar knowledge of the business and also the superior power of his drawing tools which enables him to go through strata that are impenetrable to others. His address is Anaheim.
Atlanta, (Georgia) October 5.—Eighty-seven counties give Smith $40,000 majority. The returns show that the Democrats and Liberals voted solidly for the Democratic nominees.
Geo. B. McClellan.—It is stated that Geo. B. McClellan is coming to Anaheim, for the purpose of seeing the fine painting always to be found at Payne Bros.
Wild Oats is the name of a new exchange which comes to us. It is published fortnightly by Winchell, Small & Co. New York at $200 per year. Illustrated.
To Los Angeles.—McLaughlin's Express runs daily (except Sundays) leaving Anaheim at 1 P.M. and returning at 12 N. Fare $200 Commissions promptly attended to.
Gen. Banks Coming.—General N. P. Bauks telegraphs that he is coming to California to stump the state for Greeley.
The Pulse of Health is the title of a newspaper which comes to us from the "Health Litt."
GEN. BANKS COMING.—General N. P. Banks telegraphs that he is coming to California to stump the state for Greeley.
The Pulse of Health is the title of a newspaper which comes to us from the "Health Litt Co" New York. Devoted to hygienic subjects.
Boston, October 5.—The wool house of Gilbert & Lovejoy has suspended. The liabilities are $200,000.
STEAMER MOVEMENTS — Steamship Constitution, for Panama, is due at San Pedro this morning.
The famous palace of the Escuriel in Spain, has been recently destroyed by fire.
Hon. S. O. Houghton is to arrive at Los Angeles today.
A MECHANICAL CURIOSITY.—We saw at Stock's tin-shop yesterday the turbine wheel that drives the Los Gatos Flouring Mills—the wheel having been brought down for some little repairs. This wheel is only nine inches in diameter and four inches thickness. It is of brass and weighs not more than eight or ten pounds and yet, under two hundred feet of water pressure, it drives three sets of stones, grinding two hundred barrels of flour a day. When in motion it makes twenty-two hundred revolutions a minute. It looks like a more child's toy, but its power is wonderful. It seems that the perfection of a water-wheel has been reached in this invention.—San Jose Mercury.
Jerusalem has been lighted with gas, and street cars are proposed to run up the slopes of Mount Zion.
