Caswell, 23; Dolores Sepulveda, 17; Warren H. Mace, 16. For Delegates from the 4th Supervisor District, Th. Reiser, 20; S. J. Davis, 19. For member of Central Committee from the 4th District, J. Persons. Mr. Irvine, one of the proprietors of the great San Joquin Ranch, came down yesterday. Meers, G. W. Tucker and S. Clemdenin, of Napa Valley, are in town, looking at our country with a view, we believe of settlement. Mrs. Flora Eldredge and son arrived by last steamer from Monitor Alpine Co. and propose to abide permanently in Anabeim. A Bad Job. The new bridge that was built some three weeks ago over the slough about two miles beyond Coyote Creek, on the Los Angeles road, is already broken down and cannot be crossed. The pieces put under it for stringers seem to have been too weak to sustain the weight of a heavy wagon. Whoever did the work should in justice to those who have paid for it, immediately replace the defective pieces with timbers that are heavy enough for the place. TAKE CARE OF HIM. It is complained by several parties that the insane man John Thompson is allowed to run around unguarded, and that he annoys people in their houses, runs over gardens, and makes indecent and disgusting exposures of his person in the street. He should be attended to. RICHLAND School House. The plans and specifications for this proposed edifice can be seen at Clark's bookstore. A FURNITURE STORE.—Our community is at length supplied with something we long needed, viz., a good furniture store. Two young and reliable business men, Messrs F. & J. Backs, have opened a store and factory in the building formerly occupied by Mr. Calisher on Los Angeles street and are filling it with a good stock of furniture of all kinds. Mattresses and other articles are manufactured here and as these gentlemen are their own workmen, they can guarantee the quality of their goods and sell cheaper than any other establishment. Call and see them. New Potatoes.—We have interviewed a couple of "illigant praties" of the Early Goodrich variety, raised near Santa Ana, which are as charming specimens of bog oranges as ever watered the mouth of a "broth of a boy." One is over 24 inches long, the other is somewhat less. We had them nicely baked, spread on our dinner plate and covered with butter, and in less than a minute by our stop-watch (we call it a stop-watch because it stops every day or two) those spuds had disappeared like the baseless fabric of a dream. Sic Transit. Improvements.—It is in contemplation by the Masonic and Odd Fellows Lodges of this place to erect at an early day a neat and commodious hall building on Los Angeles street, between Center and Santa Ana RICHLAND School House.—The plans and specifications for this proposed edifice can be seen at Clark's bookstore. It is to be a wooden building, 24x26 feet, and 14 feet high. The contract is to be let on the 20th inst. E W. Squirrels, Amos Travis and E R. Nicoles are the Trustees. GUARDIAN APPOINTED —Mr. A Bittner has been appointed by the Probate Court guardian of John Thompson, incompetent. An item which we published two weeks ago, upon the authority of the News, to the effect that Mr. Thompson had been sent to Stockton, proves to have been incorrect, as he is still here. LAST CHANCE.—The raffle for the splendid Arion Piano will take place Monday evening next, and parties desiring a chance must secure it before 9 o'clock Monday morning, of Clark, at the bookstore. RETRICTION.—Take warning! A grocery dealer of Fort Dodge, Iowa, withdrew his advertisements from the papers, and in just one week after was obliged to sell out. QUICK TIME.—The stage from Capistrano arrived last Thursday morning at 8 o'clock. Charlie rises early and the man who gets ahead of him will have to sit up all night. A NEW DITCH.—Dr. J. E. Fulton, of Los Nietos, has just built a new ditch to irrigate the higher portions of his farm. It is one and a half miles in length, and cost $300. MILLINERY.—It is understood that a milliner's store is soon to be opened in the building now undergoing reconstruction on Center street adjoining this office. NEW SIGNS —Mr. Fischer has ornamented the top of the Planters' insane man John Thompson, is allowed to run around unguarded, and that he annoys people in their houses, runs over gardens, and makes indecent and disgusting exposures of his person in the street. He should be attended to. FARMS FOR OPPORTUNITY: a moderately sized road leads mands a fine soil and is The tractor smaller than town. The fair crops eagerness circuit yard and fright well adapted Both ot t water privi cheaply irrigated A NEW LOOK AT THE CITIZEN'S APPROPRIATE MUTUAL LIFE: an excellent have no advantage Mr. Melr plns upon IMPROVEMENTS.—It is in contemplation by the Masonic and Odd Fellows lodges of this place to erect at an early day a neat and commodious hall building on Los Angeles street, between Center and Santa Ana streets... Mrs. M. S. Metz has the material already on the ground for making extensive improvements and alterations to the old wooden building adjoining the Southern California office on the east, converting the same into a good business house. NEW MARKET WAGON.—Messrs. Ashcroft & Pryor, the wide-awake proprietors of our excellent city meat market, have just fitted up an elegant market wagon expressly for supplying the country trade. It has a close meat box built upon it, and is neatly painted, striped and lettered. Although the ground-work is green it is nevertheless as "pretty as a red wagon." It is a vehicle meet for the purposes for which it is designed, and we hope that its owners may find, in their increasing business, so much use for their new wagon that it may always be tired. JOAQUIN MILLER.—This now celebrated poet is expected to be at Los Angeles within a few days, and we hope he may be induced to visit Anaheim. A very good pen picture of him was published last week in our San Francisco correspondence. MOST ARRIVAL. APAHIK HOTEL F Rivera, Californias H Bardda, de Jauhi Hut, de L E Smith, An. Snow—We take pleasure in calling the attention of our readers to the advertisement of this well known and eminently successful full homeopathic physician. Dr. S. has the advantage of a long experience in the practice of his profession and the almost unexampled success which has attended his efforts in the art curative, is the very highest recommendation which could be given of his skill in combating disease, and the correctness of the principles upon which his method of treatment is based. A GREAT PAINTER—We publish this week an interesting sketch of the famous Rubens. He was a great man, in his day, but his reputation in Anaheim does not compare with that of the celebrated Payne Brothers, who are filling our town with the most elegant specimens of their skill in the painting art. FARMS FOR SALE—Two of the best opportunities for procuring good homes at a moderate cost that have ever been presented here, are now before the public. The ranch offered by Mr. Gibson is beautifully located on one of the main roads leading out of Anaheim. It commands a fine view of the sea, has fertile soil and is a very desirable location. The tract mentioned by Mr. Gwin is smaller than the above and is a mile nearer town. The land is fenced and has raised fair crops even under the most disadvantageous circumstances. It is excellent vineyard and fruit land and a greater portion is well adapted to grain. Both of the above tracts have superior water privileges and can be easily and cheaply irrigated if needed. You are in health and can assure day but you are not certain that the company would accept you to morrow. The cause of temperance finds one of its most insidious and dangerous lies in the many so-called "bones" and "appliers," made of cheap whisky and riffles liquors, finished up to suit deprived patients under the name of medicine. Dr. Walker's California Vinegar Bitters are none of these. They are not a beverage but are a routine medicine, purely vegetable, prepared from California horticulture. For all diseases of the stomach, liver, kidneys, bladder, skin, and blood, they can infallible and unlimited remedy. Goodman & Bimpaul.
