The Wine Product
With the close of the wine making season we are enabled to present to our readers a tolerably accurate statement of the wine yield of Anahaim for this year and last. Our thanks are due to the wine growers for their uniform courtey, and kind assistance in gaining the desired information. The number of acres of bearing, wine producing vines we find to be near 700. The quantity of wine made this year we foot up at 330,900 gallons: perhaps some omission might swell the figures to 350,000. The number of gallons made last year was 611,000 according to figures obtained, perhaps would go as high as 650,000. The grapes on some vineyards having been almost totally destroyed by grass hoppers, this yield of over half a crop is better than could reasonably have been expected.

Richland.
Through the politeness of Mr. E. R. Nichols of Richland we are furnished with the following items of improvement at this young town. Four houses are now built on the town-site; the residences of Messrs Nichols, Glassell, Brown and Davenport. The crops on the adjoining farm-lots look well. Corn planted as late as the 15th of August is already too hard for roasting ears. Only 10 weeks growth. Think of it! The great canal of Chapman & Co., is now being enlarged to its full size viz; 6 ft. on the bottom, 8 feet at top, and 4 feet deep. The work is being done under the supervision of Mr. Watson, and is to be completed in about two weeks. Plenty of water is coming through the canal. The reservoir heretofore described, and having a capacity of 70,000 gallons, is excavated and in running order, 3 hydrants in Richland already having a fine head of water from it. The 7 inch water pipe has been laid down, thus every man has water without digging a well. The bottom and sides of the reservoir are to be lined with concrete. All honor to Chapman and & Co., for these substantial additions to our common prosperity.
New Advertisements.
We can write no more effective, or impressive article upon the prosperity of Anaheim, and its value as a business center, than by pointing proudly to the solid columns of new advertisements that grace each issue of the Gazette. It has been our custom to write little complimentary notices for our new advertisers as they appeared, but the number is now so great that our room would not admit of a separate notice for each. We can only tell our readers to look over our columns of local ads and they will find there, the names of those who are the wideawake, liberal, progressive business men of the community; the men who are reliable, prompt and who keep up with the times. The man who does not know that Julius Ceasar is dead—hadn't even heard that he was sick—does not advertise in the Gazette.

ACCIDENT AND FIRE--Quite a serious accident and an incipient conflagration occurred Sunday night at about half past eleven, at the Enterprise Hall Saloon. Mr Peter Richards, who was alone at the time had mounted a chair for the purpose of turning off the light from the large and beautiful chandelier that ornamented the center of the room, and had just taken hold of the valves for that purpose, when the chandelierave way from its fastenings, and fell with a crash to the floor, breaking the lamps, spreading the oil over the floor, and the whole mass immediately igniting and flaming up to the ceiling. Mr R immediately seized one of the covers from the billiard tables and with it attempted to smother the flames, but it caught fire and only added fuel. Taking a second cover and wetting it, he at length succeeded in amending the fire, and completely subdued it. The chandelier, worth $45 was destroyed; the burned billiard covers were valued at $15 more, and the floor and ceiling were injured to the extent of about $15, making a total pecuniary loss of $75 besides which Mr. Richards's hand was severely burned. The building and furniture are insured in the People's Insurance Company.
