AWAHEIM GAZETTE SATURDAY OCTOBER 14, 1871. One would think there was no good deal of barging in the city of hard times to see the immense quantities of freight that are daily hauled up from the land ing to our stores and thence distributed over the country. Every night the laden wagons come in with bulky cargoes of everything salable, and yet the stores themselves are none the fuller; the stock is sold off as fast as received. There must be more money here than we usually give ourselves credit for to be able to pay for all of these imports. Daedo Filed.-G. W. Tweedy to M. P. Tyler certain land in Santa Gertrudes ranch, for $800. The Sacramento Library realized $11500 from the late gift concert at that place. Good News. A telegram was received from San Francisco, by a gentleman of this city, setting forth that Mr. Bell Peel was about purchasing a mackerel for the southern coast trade. The Sequoia. We take pleasure in re-fearing to the announcement in another report of the Squire to be held by the three officers, as active pursuits are slightly so when they are not engaged in their efforts and the object of their efforts and the purpose to Anaheim from the church building among us, that we will contribute the requisite media press for the advance- BIG TEAM - An immense freight was gon feight mule power hove in sight Thursday, bound northward. We immediately interviewed the captain and learned that he was en route from San Diego to Los Angeles to engage in freighting between the latter place and Owens River. San Buenaventura has enjoyed a sensation by having a kleptomanical tailor who stole everything except hot stoves, and tried to get away with a horse and buggy besides. He was promptly captured and is now held in Santa Barbarous confinement. PERSONAL — Mr. John Weglein is absent on a trip to San Francisco, taking a little relaxation for the benefit of his health which had become somewhat impaired by too close confinement to business duties. REPAIRED. — The door of the city jail which was so ruthlessly bored by Kipp, has been substantially strengthened and is now a regular iron-clad. The window also has received an additional set of bars running at right angles to the first ones. Altogether it looks as though the next lodger would require something more than a gimlet to let himself out with, and prisoners no longer complain that their health is impaired by having the door open overnight. which was so ruthlessly bored by Kipp, has been substantially strengthened and is now a regular iron-clad. The window also has received an additional set of bars running at right angles to the first ones. Altogether it looks as though the next lodger would require some thing more than a gimlet to let himself out with, and prisoners no longer complain that their health is impaired by having the door left open overnight. NEW BUILDINGS — D. K. Williams contractor is constructing a dwelling house for his own use at the corner of Lemon and Second North streets, and Mr N. H. Mitchell of the firm of Mitchell & Gibson, is also building a similar edifice at his ranch 3 miles from town. BUMMER — This is a name given by victims to the refuse of the grape after passing through the wine-press. It poresces the quality of killing all vegetation where it is deposited, by reason it is acid contained in it. It mixed with mince and turned tinder, the acid quality is corrected and it will enrich the soil. The Kern County weekly Courier addresses a vigorous criticism upon Joseph Miller's poem, Kat Carson's Rhyme. The critic, justly we think, condemns the need for purchasing Carson a music which we have always heard represented as one of Nature's gentlemen, in the light of an iterative unprincipiled vagal mind.
