Ten Commandments of the Postoffice. 1st. Thou shalt receive no other letters than those own. 2d. Thou shalt not counterfeit postage stamps, nor defraud the Department of anything intentionally. Thou shalt be civil and genteel when enquiring for thy mail, if thou wisest the Postmaster, who is a human being to be obliging, and courteous to thee; but if thou art abusive and insulting, he will pay thee back in thine own coin. 3d. Thou shalt not backbite the postmaster or any of his assistants, and excuse either or all of them of pillering the mails, unless thou hast just reasons for so doing, and can prove them. 4th. Thou shalt not require the post-office to be kept open longer than is really necessary on the Sabbath day. Six days thou hast to buy stamps in the seventh day thou shall rest, in it thou shall come at the stated hour, get thy mail and go thy way. 5th. Honor thy friends by writing to them, that thou mayst receive letters in return. 6th. Thou shalt not loaf in the post-office. 7th. Thou shalt not blow, smoke or bad breath into the postmaster's face when asking for thy mail. 8th. Thou shalt not steal anything that belongs to the postoffice; thou shalt not pass counterfeit money upon the postmaster, or falsely accuse him of passing it upon thee and asking him to replace it. 9th. Thou shouldst not say that thou heard it that there was a letter for thee in the postoffice, when thou knewst thou art telling an untruth. 10th. Thou shalt not be vexed or angry because thy neighbor or thy neighbor's children receive more mail than thou. Nor must thou be troubled because thy neighbor goes to the postoffice in a carriage; or because he has a servant. the postmaster, or falsely accuse him of passing it upon thee and asking him to replace it. 9th Thou should not say that thou heard that there was a letter for thee in the postoffice, when thou known thou art telling an untruth. 10th Thou shalt not be vexed or angry because thy neighbor or thy neighbor's children receive more mail than thou. Nor must thou be troubled because thy neighbor goes to the postoffice in a carriage; or because he has a servant to send for his mail, and thou hast none, for the high and low, the rich and the poor, are all treated alike by the postmaster, and if thou dost not receive any mail it is thine own fault, and not that of the one whom thou hast unjustly accused.—San Bernardino Guardian.
