The Moonly Voice perpetrates a fearful joke upon some hapless editor. It says: "Some western editor sooms to be growing vain of his personal appearance. Twice recently he has sent us his portrait, pencilled on the back of a newspaper wrapper. The face somewhat resembles that of a horse, but the ears are longer."

Frederick W. Kuelp died at his residence in this city on Sunday last, 20 inst. in the 42d year of his age. was a native of Germany but early migrated to the United States. He was an honored member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and belonged to the time of his death to Harmo Lodge in San Francisco. He was one of the original settlers of Anahe having removed hither in 1860 after the location was surveyed. He has filled several public positions such as President of the Anahe Lighter Company, Clerk of the Board of Registration, Clerk of the Council and many others the duty of all which he has discharged with satisfaction to all and honor to himself. He taught a private school for seven years having been a man of fine education, of cultivated and refined taste. His death our young community lost valuable citizen, and his bereaved family mourn a loving husband and father.

School Items—As will be seen elsewhere, the residents of Bolso Grande school district are preparing to build a school house for their district. One is also to be erected at Gallatin to cost $2,000. These are good signs for the country. The Los Angeles Star has a list of nine public schools in that city.
Obstructing Sidewalks—Our attention has been called to a nuisance which has long existed among us, viz., the practice of tying horses on the sidewalks so that the horse shall take up the whole walk and oblige foot passengers to go into the street around him. The proper authorities should remedy the evil.
New Stable—Geo. R Butler has just completed a fine new brick stable on Main st opposite Arcadia st. Los Angeles, and named it the "Fashion" Stable. The new establishment is centrally located and convenient for the travelling public.
A proposition for annexing the Territory of Utah to the State of Nevada, is being seriously considered. The new state would be about as large as California. Utah has 100,000 Mormons and 20,000 Gentiles, while Nevada has 60,000 Gentiles, so that combined the Mormons would still be in the majority by 20,000.

The Victorian League
We have received the circular of the Victoria League," an institution declaring its mission to be the organisation of The Royal Rights Party," and the election as next President of Mrs. Victoria G. Woodhall of New York. Our gallantry would impel us to advocate this ticket but in the present agitated state of Anaheim politics, we fear the result of interpolating any new element into the seething caldron.
