ANAHEIM GAZETTE. SATURDAY JULY 1 1871. New Residence of Phil. Davis, & Brother. The new dwelling house of Phil. Davis & Bro. now being constructed on the site of the building lately burned on Center street is to be two stories in height, and in other dimensions 50 by 75 feet. It is to be of the composite cottage style of architecture, and intended to eclipse in beauty and convenience the building later destroyed by fire. The front will have a large bay window in its center, on the inside of which will be situated the parlor 16 by 20 feet. On each side of this window will be porches with steps leading up; and from the right one will be the front entrance door leading into a hall, from which doors lead into the parlor to the left and a sitting room 12 by 18 feet to the right. The dining room 16 by 16 is situated immediately to the rear of the parlor, and next to that is the kitchen 16 by 16 feet. The left wing of the first floor contains a bath, store and bed room and a side porch facing westward, 8 by 12 feet. The second floor contains two bed rooms in the center, 16 by 18 each—one in right wing 12 by 18 feet and one in the left wing 14 by 14 feet. The windows in both these wings are to be double, or of the style known as twin-windows. The whole building is amply provided with closets, doors, fire places, flues, stairs, steps, cellars and all modern conveniences. RE-UNION AT CAPISTRANO Barbacue at the Boca De La Playa—Dance at the residence of Senor Don Juan Abilla, a Day with Spanish Scenes and Spanish Beauty. On Tuesday last, a social convention was held at the grand ranch of A croft & Pryor, at San Juan Capistrane and at which Santa Margarita, Luis Rey, Las Flores and Anah were represented by appropriate delegations, young and old, male and female. Preparations were made under a magnificent scale; and the gathering of the parties, at noon was the signal for the beginning of a good time which ended not until fourteen hours later. THE RANCH The extensive ranch of Messrs. A croft & Pryor, is situated along ocean, two miles south of the mission of San Juan Capistrane. The magnificent residence is located on elevation about one-half mile from beach and commands a fine view of plains; ocean and mountains. The ranch is called the Boca de la Playa, Spanish sentence which means "mouth of the beach." A clear never failing stream of water runs through the valley, which is green with dure. A portion of this valley remains in pasture, where the large herd stock of Messrs. Asheroft & Pryor kept, and from which the Ana market is supplied with such well-tended and excellent meats. A part of the valley is under cultivation with many products, and another part is planted with walnut, lemon or other fruit trees. The ranch The second floor contains two bedrooms in the center, 16 by 18 each—one in right wing 12 by 18 feet and one in left wing 14 by 14 feet. The windows in both these wings are to be double, or of the style known as twin-windows. The whole building is amply provided with closets, doors, fireplaces, flues, stairs, steps, cellars and all modern conveniences. It is one of the class of domestic castles that will, within five years dot our whole valley, from the ocean to the mountains and which will be inhabited by the refined and wealthy of every nation. Mr. Davis, Dr. Hardin, Mr. Reiser, M. Kroger and Mr. Casad of Santa Ana, are among those who comprehending this inevitable progress have taken the initiative and, upon ample plans have laid foundations for that class of beautiful homes. Santa Ana. The public school at this place is closed for a vacation. The pupils have gained great proficiency under the charge of Miss Ana Casad, the teacher. The San Joaquin ranch is being fenced. The entire tract embraces eleven leagues. It is expected that a portion of this ranch will be thrown upon for settlement next spring. Great preparations are being made for the Celebration of the 4th of July. People are expected to attend from all parts of the country, including Anaheim. There has been a beet sugar industry between this place and the new land producing the beets on the lands formerly possessed alkan. The Chapman Company, it is said, intend creating a gross mill on their town near Richland. An artesian well has been successfully bored from the ranch of Mr. Welsh. Water was struck at 90 feet and now at eight feet above the surface, through a seven inch pipe. The private school of Mr. J. M. Gainn closes in two weeks. Ashcroft & Pryor kept, and from which the Anas market is supplied with such well-tended and excellent meats. A part of the valley is under cultivation with many products, and another part is planted with walnut, lemon or other fruit trees. The ranch together embraces about 7000 acres the finest land in that part of county of Los Angeles. THE PIC NIC. Leaving the casa a short drive away a bluff to the northwest, soon brooms to the picnic grounds, covered with luxuriant grass, and wide spread Aliso trees. In this sylvan retreat beneath the umbrageous trees, spread along lengthened table, which groaned under the weight of the table viands spread out for a burly guests. Among those present we noticed Mrs. Don Juan Forster, a splendid young lady whose name have forgotten; Señor Don M. Forster and lady; and Don Teñor Don Miguel; Col. McCoun; Ellis, and Mrs. Forster of Oakland; redoutable Riobard Egan. Señor Juan Abila, and the acknowlledge of Capistrano, Miss Mollico. Hard by, the employees of ranch had sacrificed the fatted ox-broiled it whole in honor of the grazing in clusters beneath the tree beauty, wit and manly valor of whole region. While some indulge the ancient Spanish games, others ped the light and restive toe upon green; and others still, of the maltion contested for the champions athletic sports—only to leave it the vigorous sons of Capistrano. Bible, if we remember aright, reminds lager beer, as necessary, for stomach's sake, and some of the being piously inclined, soon drains full of this nectar—as well as bers of enchanting looking bottles. The private school of Mr. J. M. Guinn closed in two weeks. The grapes in the vineyards of Anaheim are now about the size of hazel nuts, and where not infested with grasshoppers, have a very healthy appearance.
