ANAHEIM GAZETTE.
SATURDAY, JULY 1, 1871.
NOTICE.
Los Angeles candidates wishing to be announced in the Anaheim 'Gazette' can arrange to do so by calling on Mr. W. J. Brodrick.
Rowland for Sheriff.
Eswhere in our columns will be seen the announcement of Wm. R. Rowland Esq., for the office of Sheriff. The heated contest, two years ago, between this candidate and Mr. Burns, is still well remembered throughout the county; and with many latent regrets at his then, seemingly impossible defeat. If at that time there was any direct cause for this disaster (which we very much doubt) a two years contrast between the individuals has most thoroughly obliterated all traces of it.
The public will mark that Rowland has been slow in announcing himself for this campaign. While a host of friends anxiously wished him in the field, few or none saw any indication on his part, and his announcement sprang upon the public, like the spring of a tiger, with well gathered strength.
Mr. Rowland has large vested interests in this county; he belongs to one of its best and most influential families; and he will make a first class, active energetic, honest sheriff. No better nomination could be made, and we are pleased that he has come out as a candidate.

The City licenses now being collected in advance, under the old schedule and covering a period that should be covered by the new ordinance, great general dissatisfaction among our trades people. The ordinance reducing licenses, was passed at the last session of the Council, and with the approval by the Mayor, it becomes a law. On and after its passage and approval, the new rule should be in force. It is reasonable that all should pay the old rates up to the date, when by passage of the new, a reduction took place.
F. Sabichi, of Los Angeles, announces himself as a candidate for the Legislature on the straight Democratic ticket Mr. Sabichi is a young man, a native of Los Angeles, and is related to several of the most prominent Spanish families of the county. He received a liberal education in England, and is no doubt competent to fill a much higher station than the one now sought. He is at present a member of the City Council of Los Angeles. He professes to be a man of the people, and will no doubtably advocate their interests, if elected to the Legislature.
For County Clerk.
The announcement of Edward A. Preuss, of Los Angeles, for the office of County Clerk, on the Independent ticket, appears in our colnmns to-day. He makes the fourth candidate in the field: The three others are on the race for the regular Democratic nomination. At the primaries, two out of these three will be dropped, thus, if no other candidates come out, leaving the fight between Mr. Preuss and the regular Democratic nominee.

The Markets.
Barley sells as high as $5 per sack at the stations along the route to Lower California, 50 miles below San Diego.
No hay has been sent, south of San Louis Key, and at that point nearly the whole product will be required for home consumption. The great hay depot of this season, and the nearest place where it will be purchasable for the south, is in the extensive valley of Anaheim, where fortunately an abundance has been out; and the feed speculators of San Diego and Lower California will be apt to thoroughly drain this supply at an early date. Baled hay, corn and barley are bound to sell at high figures before the expiration of six months.
The latest quotations from San Francisco, gives flour as "still weaker" wheat "still weaker;" and we begin to think the speculators are in the act of "Bear- ing" the market by a well put up corner."
