ANAHEIM GAZETTE. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 1870. Those of our subscribers who live outside of the route of the carrier can always get their papers at the Post-Office, on the day of publication. Oh! "Shee Fly." Poets have lived and died unknown to fame. Most literary feelings have been born upon the earth, without their nearest neighbors ever becoming cognizant of the fact. Yet, while these things have frequently occurred, more frequently still have editors—or aspirants for editorial distinction—been found to exist. During the past few weeks, they have been discovered in great numbers in and around Anaheim. They have even generously and self-sacrificingly proffered their services to us in the conduct of the Gazette, and we have as cordially said to them: "Gentlemen, not any in ours if you please." There is Don Smearshanks, a most estimable gentleman in his way, (pity the way,)—and one who, in the congenial atmosphere of the Fiji islands, would certainly distinguish himself—wants us to publish a political paper. If we will do so, he will pay his "great" $5 a year for its encouragement. He claims to have once scribbled for the Damphools' Gaspaper, and having wonderful understanding of public sentiment and a great knowledge of the why and the wherefore, thinks the Los Angeles Camera. A man may become a gymnast, a navigator or a mathematician, without study (?) or instruction! and if those things be possible, even so may one successfully assume the duties of an editor, without training or education. Let up! let up!! ye novices; confine yourselves to your legitimate callings. Make balloons, construct pneumatic tubes to the moon indulge in manipulating fanciful and well conceived air bubbles, if it please you! We serve the people, and paddle the Gazette with an oar that will neither break nor rust. Now, there is Brown. A good man is Brown. Brown whispers in our ear that Jones is a villain, and asks us to "write down Jones a villain." The next day, Jones calls upon us, and brings us proof positive that Brown is a rascal and asks us to pitch into him. Forbear, good Mr. Brown. The Mayoq and Common Council of the City of Anaheim do ordain as follows: See 1. After the passage of the ordinance shall not be lawful nor any person nor daughter any harried cattle, she pony hags for the purpose of selling them within the limits of the city, unless they may not apply to the Common Council for a warrant; and o shall be lawful and the Common Council may at their discretion grant a permit to any person nor daughter animals as specified above. The Mayor and Common Council of the city of Anaheim do ordain as follows: After the passage of this ordinance shall be lawful or any person born under any barred center, shearing on hogs, for the purpose of selling meat, within the limits of the city, unless he first apply to the Common Council for a permit; and so shall be lawful and the Common Council may at their discretion give a permit. Every person who shall violate any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed unwilling to engage in such activity, and so convicted thereof shall be fined for the first offense in a sum not exceeding twenty-five dollars, and for each subsequent offense not less than twenty five nor more than two hundred dollars or imprisonment not exceeded ten days, or both fine and imprisonment at his discretion of the Mayor or Court.
