MAXWELL CARS REMAIN SEASON'S SENSATION DECLARES TURTON
That the new series Maxwell is proving one of the real sensations of the automobile season in California is being evidenced by the consistent reception which it is receiving, according to H. L. Turton of Turton & Lumsdon, Maxwell distributors for Northern Orange County.
"We are continuing to entertain large gatherings at our showrooms," states Turton in discussing the ovation given the new cars. "Two of the cars which have called for particular attention during the past few weeks are the Maxwell roadster and touring cars. Those who like the roadster type of automobile, either for business or pleasure riding, are sure to be pleased with the roadster of the new series now, on display."
"Driving comfort has been given particular attention and the person at the wheel assumes an easy position. The driving mechanism is very accessible and the car is roomy. There is a large compartment under the rear deck that will be appreciated by traveling salesmen and others who use the car for business purposes and it will also afford ample room for luggage of those who use the car for touring.
"Two additional luggage compartments at the rear of the seat are convenient for carrying packages in town. The roadster is equipped, as is the touring car, with disc wheels and with demountable rims as regular equipment, although artillery wood wheels are furnished as optional equipment. A plate glass rear window adds to the appearance of the car and the Alemite system of chassis lubrication is a special convenience."

Chandler Plows Through Mud in Yorba Linda
The recent rain gave the Chandler an opportunity to display its stamina and enhance its reputation as the "car with the marvelous motor."
C. L. Ulm, who has driven Chandler motors many thousand of miles through Washington and Oregon, is not a man to be easily dismayed by stretches of mud. Anyone who has driven through the northern country roads in the rainy season will readily understand why. In the north, Mr. Ulm had been in the habit of driving his Chandler to his destination whenever he started a trip, regardless of roads or distance. So yesterday afternoon found him venturing in full confidence into an unpaved street out of Yorba Linda, and then off the road into a piece of highway under construction. The roadway was merely freshly plowed clay-like soil graded up into a long ridge. Not concerned by the mud, Mr. Ulm did not notice the nature of his roadway, and merely threw the car into second gear, and finally into low, until he reached the point shown in the photograph.
Although the car was buried in adobe mud to the hubs and running boards, and with the differential, front axle and crankcase each dragging deep furrow, the car was thrown in reverse gear and driven out on its own power.
California residents are not accustomed to treating their cars in the manner, but Mr. Ulm regards the incident in a matter-of-fact light, and has announced his intention of joining the sales force of the Anaheim Chandler and Cleveland agency.

This Tells How to Get Auto License Plate
Here is the latest information for motorists in securing the state license plates for the new year.
Every automobile owner should read this and then follow the instructions carefully so that there will be no delay in getting the plates on the car in order to conform with the law This "dope" is given out officially by the touring bureau of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
Your 1921 certificate of registration properly signed by the registered and legal owner of the car will constitute the application for a state license for the operation of a motor vehicle.
Bring this to the automobile club or to the motor vehicle department with a certified check on a California bank, postoffice money order for the amount of the fee which is based, as in the past, on forty cents per horsepower of the car. To determine the amount of the fee multiply the designated horse-power by forty cents.
Be sure that your 1921 certificate of registration is legible, for otherwise it will have to be sent to Sacramento for verification before the application for new plates can be handled. No certificate of registration bearing marks of alterations or erasures will be accepted.
If you have changed your place of residence, make a note of same and the new address on a slip of paper which must be pinned to the certificate. Do not write the new address on the face of the certificate.
If you have lost your 1921 certificate, apply immediately for a duplicate certificate. Applications for duplicate certificates can be secured at any auto club office. If you have no certificate, secure one at once and avoid delay and confusion later.
Remember in buying a new car now that 1921 licenses do not expire until February 1. In applying for a new license prior to that date, you will be required to pay a fee for the last quarter of 1921. In cases of transfer of ownership, be sure the proper signatures are on the certificate—the one of the buyer, the seller and the legal owner.
MOTOR TRANSIT STAGES EQUIPPED WITH HEATERS
Another up-to-date comfort feature has been added to the equipment of the motor stages, according to easy winter passengers on the Motor Transit Company cars. This is the provision for heat.
Although this feature has been tried out before, it is just recently that all stages have been equipped with heaters. The heat created in the power plants of the cars is now utilized in a manner declared to be especially efficient, a modern apparatus for conserving the warmth from the exhaust, raising the temperature of the air in the stage to such a degree that passengers in every seat are comfortable.
The touring information bureau of the club," continued Mr. Allen, "not only collects and distributes accurate road information during the rainy season but is constantly on the alert, keeping informed as to the condition of the highways at all times."

OWNERS OF NASH CAR ARE BEST BOOSTERS SAYS MAY
Arthur A. May, Anaheim distributor for the Nash car, says that there are no better boosters for the famous valve-in-head Nash motor than those who have been driving Nash cars longest.
He expects to see an even greater evidence of the popularity this car due to the recent drop prices. The price drop varies amount from $155 on the open market to $305 on the closed models. The prices are effective now.

In addition tight-fitting side curtains of special design, with which each stage is equipped, serve the double purpose of protecting the passengers from outside cold and holding in the heat created by the heaters inside.
More than one local resident has had occasion to compliment the Motor Transit Company, through Mr. Deihl, local agent, for the increased efforts being made to add to the comfort of winter motor stage travel.
HUNDREDS SEEK ROAD INFORMATION OF CLUB DURING STORM
That the Automobile Club of Southern California is rendering a very valuable service to the motoring public, especially in Anaheim and surrounding territory, was ably evidenced by the number of calls, both personal and telephone, for accurate road information, made at the local office during the recent heavy rains, which, according to Paul V. Allen, representative of the club, averaged 128 dally.
"The Automobile Club of Southern California," said Mr. Allen, "was able to make intelligent answer to all inquiries made, through the fact that it has twenty-two branch offices in the principal cities of Southern California, each of which scouted its territory immediately after the rains commenced, collecting accurate information as to road conditions and immediately communicating such to the main office in Los Angeles where the reports from all branch offices were consolidated and furnished each individual office, enabling all offices to make intelligent replies to all queries regarding road conditions anywhere."
