MONDAY Gladys Walton NEWS FROM T PUENTE HILLS WELLS ESTABLISHING RECORD The record of the Bardeen Oil Company at Puente Hills has been a series of cementing and recementing. Bardeen is making a determined effort against the water and will come out a winner. The 6 inch was shot off, put back and the well recemented at 2260. The Chino-Corona United is making some progress. All the 6 inch pipe is now out and the 8 inch is coming. Drilled to 3700 feet this well showed light oil possibilities if deep-ended. Drilling on Mahala No. 2 is going splendid and it looks like another cable tool record is to be made. No.1, the producer, continues to average 35 barrels. The condition of the St. Helens Petroleum's Garnier No.1 at 2333 is such that moving the rig and starting a new well is seriously considered. After working with Balwin 1-A, a deepest well drilled to 4563 feet, the Shell Company has decided to abandon. Two years work on the well and a production of from ten to fifteen barrels of heavy oil resulted in the abandonment. The Beaumont Midway got down 1260 feet and got into a bad fishing job. The Moreno Oil Company shows 1300 feet of hole and the formation carries some gas. The Nuevo Oil Company also has 1300 feet of hole and report some favorable showings. The Riverside Oil Company was the first concern to really find oil. At 2200 feet the Riverside struck oil in what looked like commercial quantity but to date has never been able to effect a water shut off. Water Halts Kitselman Well Work at Hawthorne Water has completely surrounded the wells of the Kitselman Company and no work of any kind was done by this company during the past week at Hawthorne. It will be impossible to gain admission to the properties for several days and little new developments can be expected for a week or more. Kitselman is drilling at Playa Del Rey and the log shows 1856 feet. The formation has been running in a mixture of sand and shale. COMING— Wednesday, Jan. 4 Fairyland Theatre Ernest J. C FROM THE OIL FIELDS Long Beach Consolidated Strikes Oil Sand, Report Weather conditions did not permit getting much information from the Newport field. The Interstate Oil Company found about 300 feet of cement lodged in the 3 inch perforated at Mesa No. 1. This cement is being drilled cut and a water test made early this week. Norris No. 1 is drilling at 2255 in sandy brown shale. Heights No. 1 set 280 feet of 15 1-2 and still stands cemented. The report from the Long Beach Consolidated was to be the effect that an oil sand had been struck at 2400 feet and would be tested out. Rain prevented a visit to the well and the oil sand report could not be verified. The latest available information from the Wucherer and Gray interests gave No. 1 drilling at 3657 in brown shale. The W. A. G. Oil Company No. 1 stands cemented at 2000 in ten inch. The W. G. R. Petroleum Company is at 945 in shale and clay. The San Joaquin Hills Oil Company-spudded in and made 200 feet of hole. Beatty Oil Company Finds Trace In Sand The Beatty Oil Company, drilling at Eagle Rock, is now down 2750 feet. At this depth the formation is sand and traces of oil is claimed. A fishing job at 4200 halted operations on the Eddystone Oil Corporation's Nurkhart No. 1. As this deep well has not shown any indications of oil the outlook is not very promising. Fuel oil could not be hauled into the Loma Verdi well on account of road conditions during the past week and the well shut down at 2650 feet. Blue shale was the formation at 2650. MORE WELLS LOCATED BY COMPANY AT REDONDO That the Chansler Canfield Midway thinks well of the Redondo country is evidenced by the fact that two new rigs are being built. The new wells are Redondo No. 1, located three-fourths of a mile to the west of the discovery well. The discovery well is swedging out and pulling the 8-inch preparatory to going deeper. Dominguez No. 1 is at 2557 and drilling in hard shell. Dominguez No. 1 is checking out ahead a hundred feet deeper than the Del Amo. Drilling on the General Petroleum's Petifills No. 1 is now at 800 feet in hard sand. Drilling is going nicely. Union Resumes Drilling On Sommers at Gardena The Union Oil Company has decided to go ahead with the drilling of Sommers No. 1 and make a deep test well. Drilling is now at 4560 in hard sand and shell. Shale At San Pedro Well Carries Some Gas, Report Drilling on the San Pedro-Point Firmin Oil Company's No. 1 is now at 800 feet. The formation is running in blue shale and carries some gas. An abundance of sulphur water, struck at 600 feet, continues. Wet weather is not hampering the drilling. At high tide the breakers wash over the rig foundation. Supplies are lowered over the cliff down to the rig by an electric hoist. 311 North Harvard avenue, motored to Long Beach Friday on matters of business. These stockmen have organized under the name of the Southern California Pure Bred Livestock association, with H. Michel of the Santa Monica Dairy company of Venice, president; George W. Thomas, dairy man and breeder of Jersey cattle of Arlington, vice president, and W. W. Van Pelt, secretary of the Southern California fair at Riverside, secretary-treasurer. The board of directors is composed of the following: Horses, Perchrons, F. L. Hall, Perris; Clydesdales, John Troup, Santa Barbara; cattle, Holsteins, R. N. Clapp, Nuevo; Jerseys, George W. Thomas, Arlington; Guernseys, Walter P. Dupee, Riverside; Ayrshires, Mark Butterfield, Riverside; dairy Shorthorns, F. A. Langdon, Perris; beef Shorthorns, Frank C. Collier, Wildomar; Herefords, D. Harvey, Redlands; Poland-china, Charles Mae-Donald, Santa Ana, Sheep, J. J. Prendergast, Redlands. At a recent meeting of the directors held in Los Angeles it was decided to hold a general meeting of stockmen in Los Angeles on Saturday, January 14 at noon, at which time a program of work for the coming year will be presented and the machinery for carrying on this work discussed. The introduction, development and protection of pure bred stock is a problem of paramount importance in Southern California. There is a limitless field open to this development; climate, soil and every agricultural condition lends itself to the encouragement of this industry. Herald Post W A recent meeting of the directors held in Los Angeles it was decided to hold a general meeting of stockmen in Los Angeles on Saturday, January 14, at noon, at which time a program of work for the coming year will be presented and the machinery for carrying on this work discussed. The introduction, development and protection of pure bred stock is a problem of paramount importance in Southern California. There is a limited field open to this development; climate, soil and every agricultural condition lends itself to the encouragement of this industry. The promoters of this organization have in mind a definite system of work to remove as far as possible some of the many pumps in this road, to place the purebred animals on every farm and ranch and to encourage better breeding conditions generally. As this is a move in the interest of every stockman, a large membership in this organization is urged and the secretary is conducting a campaign in which every breeder, who is now a member, is urging his brother breeder in his special line to come in.
