News Notes of the Oil Fields
WHITTIER

Drilling at 3045 the Southern California Oil Company's Sanderson No. 1 is showing brown sticky shale and considerable gas. The outlook for a well is improving.
Drilling stopped on Whitley No. 6 at 3405 feet. A sand running from 3350 to bottom will be tested out for production. Whitley No. 5 is redrilling, the intention being to deepen the well from 2580 on.

A nation-wide scheme for the sale of articles made by sick and wounded soldiers through their own stores has been proposed to the American Legion Auxiliary by Mrs. Clarence R. Edwards, Boston, Mass., wife of the commander of the twenty-sixth division, A.E.F. The plan will be discussed at a meeting of Auxiliary executives in Indianapolis January 18, 19 and 20.
In the plan, the handiwork of the disabled would be sold in principal towns and cities in stores established and operated along lines of women's exchanges. At Golay No. 1 the Shell Company has installed a 27 1/2 shaft drive rotary, the largest and heaviest type rotary ever built. Golay No. 1 spudder in last Saturday and is now drilling at 600 feet. The big rotary is the product of the Union Tool Company and its work will be watched with interest.

REDONDO
Investigation into the condition of the Chansler-Canfield test well at Redondo reveals the fact that the ten inch has gone bad at 2100, probably has collapsed. It will be necessary now to pull the 8 inch and cement again below the ten. The work of mudding off, pulling the pipe, putting it back in, and recemmenting, will delay the drilling of new hole three or four weeks. At 3100 feet last week this well made all the showings necessary for an oil well to make and there is every reason to believe that the Chansler-Canfield will open up a new and big field for Southern California at Rednodo. SALTS FINE FOR
ACHING KIDNEYS
We eat too much meat, which clogs
Kidneys, then Back hurts and
Bladder bothers you.
Most folks forget that the kidneys,
like the bowels, get sluggish and clogged
and need a flushing occasionally, else we
have backache and dull misery in the
kidney region, severe headaches, rheumatic twinges, torpid liver, acid stomach,
sleeplessness and all sorts of bladder disorders.
You simply must keep your kidneys
active and clean, and the moment you
feel an ache or pain in the kidney
region, get about four ounces of Jad
Salts from any good drug store here,
take a tablespoonful in a glass of water
before breakfast for a few days and
your kidneys will then act fine. This
famous salts is made from the acid of
grapes and lemon juice, combined with
lithia, and is harmless to flush clogged
kidneys and stimulate them to normal
activity. It also neutralizes the acids
in the urine so it no longer irritates,
thus ending bladder disorders.
Jad Salts is harmless; inexpensive
makes a delightful effervescent lithiawater drink which everybody should take
now and then to keep their kidneys clean,
thus avoiding serious complications.
A well-known local druggist says he
sells lots of Jad Salts so folks who believe
in overcoming kidney trouble while it is
only trecuble.

In connection with these visits, the Legion men and women will obtain information on cases of neglect and follow up with claims to government bureaucracy. Location of every possible unfortunate ex-service man has been effected through post meetings, the Red Cross, medical organizations and city and county officials. In some instances, house to house canvassing has opened by the members.
INDIANA COLIS, Ind., Dec. 24—Who was the last American soldier killed in action?
The American Legion, endeavoring to learn the identity of the last to fall, is receiving many claims at its national headquarters here. The French government will erect a monument to the last man killed.
The case of a sergeant of the 79th Division who tried to capture the last German machine gun of the war has been offered to Legion headquarters by Major Albert T. Rich of the regular army.
It was north of Verdun on the morning of November 11, 1918, that the incident cited by Major Rich occurred. A first sergeant of an infantry company, aspiring to take the last Boche gun, left his lines at 10:55 o'clock, just five minutes before the war ended.
The sergeant was killed perhaps a minute before the armistice, immediately in front of the gun he was trying to capture. At 11 o'clock sharp the German officer in charge of the gun directed four of his men to pick up the dogboy and carry him to the American lines.
Col. William H. Oury was in command of the regiment to which the sergeant belonged. Major Rich reported, and General W. J. Nicholson commanded the division. Col. Oury is now stationed with the 14th Infantry in the canal Zone and Gen. Nicholson is in Washington. The identity of the sergeant and the company to which he belonged were not learned by Major Rich.
USE SULPHUR TO HEAL YOUR SKIN
Broken Out Skin and Itching Eczema Helped Over Night
For unsightly skin eruptions, rash or blotches on face, neck, arms or body, you do not have to wait for relief from torture or embarrassment, declares a noted skin specialist. Apply a little Mentho-Sulphur and improvement shows next day.
Because of its germ destroying properties, nothing has ever been found to take the place of this sulphur preparation. The moment you apply it healing begins. Only those who have had unsightly skin troubles can know the delight this Mentho-Sulphur brings. Even fiery, itching eczema is dried right up.
Get a small jar from any good druggist and use it like cold cream.

LADIES! DARKEN YOUR GRAY HAIR
Use Grandma's Sage Tea and Sulphur Recipe and Nobody will Know.
The use of Sage and Sulphur for restoring faded, gray hair to its natural color dates back to grandmother's time. She used it to keep her hair beautifully dark, glossy and attractive. Whenever her hair took on that dull, faded or streaked appearance, this simple mixture was applied with wonderful effect.
But brewing at home is mussy and out-of-date. Nowadays, by asking at any drug store for a bottle of "Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound," you will get this famous old preparation, improved by the addition of other ingredients, which can be depended upon to restore natural color and beauty to the hair.
A well-known downtown druggist says it darkens the hair so naturally and evenly that nobody can tell it has been applied. You simply dampen a sponge or soft brush with it and draw this through your hair, taking one strand at a time. By morning the gray hair disappears, and after another application or two, it becomes beautifully dark and glossy.
