German Women Run Ads to Obtain Berlin at present is the bachelor's harvest field. Marriage advertisements have long been a feature of the German newspapers, but the last few months have seen an extraordinary development in that line. The dearth of eligible husbands has compelled would-be wives to leave no stone unturned to achieve their desire and whole columns are now daily leveted to appeals of women in search of husbands, setting forth their attractions, physical and financial. Thus a fraulein advertises: "Twenty-six years old, fair, good character, domesticated, pleasant appearance, fortune and a good dowry, wishes to meet a man of good character and industrious; purpose of marriage." Then comes: "Well educated farmer's daughter, pretty, 21, modest fortune, wishes to make a love marriage." Another young woman, bearing in mind her prevailing house shortage, says: "Girl of 26, with her own home, wishes to marry." The same lure is held out by a free-thinking intelligent and domesticated Jewess. "While there is life there is hope, is apparently the motto of 'Catholic widow,' 59, with a noble character and three rooms seeks a husband." Widows mostly war widows figure largely in the columns. Some of them having no doubt had one experience are particular as to their future husbands. One for instance wishes to marry a "small slim man," 35 to 36 years old with brown eyes and hair." while another stipulates that "no Jews, Poles or film artists need apply." But the women are not the only people who have seen the possibility of the present situation. A large number of men recognize their value in the marriage market and insert advertisements giving little description of themselves but laying down clearly what they expect of their future brides. Money, flats, good positions and handsome appearance enable them to obtain desired. So that are seeking of masculine and men that advance partitions reaping a richest result. Blanker, Mrs. Plegel and Mrs. S. A. Gelgel. Miss E. Siegel took part in the servant girl. The play was a great success. German songs were given by Miss W. Hessen, Mr. Porter and a duet by theses E. and A. Siegel After the musical song, "Die Sprickcrin," sung Miss A Siegel, a true German place was enjoyed until a late hour. Mrs. Siegel is doing a great work by establishing a friendly feeling between the former enemy nations and has so far succeeded admirably. Siegel is contemplating giving next entertainment in a moreatable locality. A railway brakeman was passing down his train after it had come to a standstill at a country station, shouting out the name of the place as he went: "March! March!" he yelled. And then did funny things with a lamp and a flag. Suddenly, one of the windows was lowered, and, to the brakeman's great surprise an excited passenger cried out: 'Good heavens! It was February when I left!' Said Jones, sadly: "Something I said to my wife some days ago offended her so much that she ha'n't spoken to me since." "Old man," returned Henpeck, with painful eagerness: "would you mind telling me what it was you said?" There was a sharp report and a few minutes later he was lying on the ground with a group of men bending over him. As he opened his eyes a gate-keeper, with a sigh of relief, touched him gently on the shoulder. "Ah," he murmured, "I'm glad you've come round! I don't think you paid your admission money, did you?" Jealousy is the tabasco sauce of love. Fashions for Americans INDICATING the early spring vogue for two fabric combinations is the coat sketched above, combining navy and dahlia colored velour. Dahlia, by the way, is to be the new rival of fuchsia, a tone given much prominence in the color line-up for fall and winter. Like fuchsia, dahlia is in the reddish purple class. The main portion of the coat sketched is made of the dahlia fabric with sleeves and collar in contrasting color appliqued with motifs of the dahlia shade. The opposite color combination is just as smart, of course. In any event color and fabric combinations are to continue in favor for the season ahead. As stated many times before, this vogue is a decided aid to economy, as it lends itself immediately to the making-over of last season garments by adding a bit of new fabric. The sleeves of this coat, of the wing type, open on the underneath arm so that they form a cape. The wing or cape sleeve is fastened in a good many of the season's top costs. One very smart model, made of plaid wool material in a heavy weave, had sleever cut to flare from shoulder to lower edge and very much longer than the arm. Those sleeves were seamed together on the under arm to wrist length, and below this they fell away from the arm to form a decided cape. The coat was full length, belted and finished at the front with a Tuxedo rever. Designers are bringing out many three and even four-piece suits now.
