NEWS FROM THE OIL FIELDS
HUNTINGTON BEACH
At 3670 feet Huntington No. 6, Amalgamated is being prepared to go on production. The well has made some oil, but as yet does not seem to get under way as it was expected. Huntington No. 6 looks like a 350 barrel well at best. Dennison No. 1 spudded in and started drilling. Powder No. 3 at 3425 is in a white sand. Huntington No. 7 and Pierce No. 2 are rigging up.
At Johnson No. 1 the Argonaut Oil Company got a nice showing of oil at 2597, pulled back to 2680 and set the 10 inch, Turley No. 2 at 3245 is in shale and the formation is being watched closely by core drilling.
Getting a nice clay to set pipe in at 2823 the Bolse Chica Oil Corporation is getting ready to cement. The cementing at 2100 done a number of times failed to get the water shut off.
The Bolsa Chica Oil Company after an absence of several months from Huntington Beach has returned to the field and is drilling at Augur No. 2. It is understood that this company means business now and has come back to make a slowing.
Edens Syndicate No. 1 is now bone dry and goes on production today. Perkins cemented the 8 inch at 2302 and made a job. The Edens Syndicate will undoubtedly make a nice bell. Predictions on the production run from 3 to 4 hundred barrels. A lot of people thought Edens couldn't make a well out of the Syndicate. They will think different now.
Huff No. 1, the Eddystone's deep test well failed to get a shutoff at 4361 and has been re-cemented.
The General Petroleum has decided to continue the drilling on Community No. 1 to 4300 and if oil is not found drilling will be discontinued. At 4125 the formation shows a hard shell.
The Federal Consolidated Oil Company failed to get a shutoff at 2531 with the ten inch and will recement through the perforations at 2580. The bottom, of the hole is 3728.
The well flows and makes 28.3 gravity oil. At Huntington A-5 the 8 inch is to be loosened and the well deepened from 2870. A-7 at 2790 and A-9 at 2535 are testing water. A-13 down 3154 is fishing for drill pipe. A-14 at 3023 is drilling by pipe. The rig for A-15 is about completed. A-16 at 2180 is testing out for water. A-17 is testing water below the 10 inch at 2330. Huntington B-5 get pipe at 2195. No. 6 at 2355. B-7 is drilling at 2800 and -8 is a rig. B-9 is building and B-10 is located. C-1 at 2366 failed to make much of a showing and will be deepened. Huntington D1 stands cemented at 2664. D-2 is a location and D-3 has spudded in. E-1 is now at 3000 feet and drilling. E-3 set 4-1-4 at 2695, and E-4 is testing for water at 2263. Bolsa No. 2 will be the next producer on the Cun Club lease, now at 2571 the water is being tested out, Bolsa No. 5 shows 2375 feet of hole, and the rig is up for Bolsa No. 6. Fransworth No. 1 is now drilling at 2455. Pacific No. 1 shows 3000 feet and no big indications. Drilling started on Jones Community No. 3. Surf No. 2 shows 2400 feet of hole and Thompson No. 1 at one time a producing well is now deepening at 3145 feet.
The Sun Oil Company's No. 3 stopped drilling at 2683 feet after penetrating about 500 feet of oil bearing sands and shale. The well started to flow before production preparations could be made and may give some trouble. No. 3 looks like the biggest thing the Sun Oil Company has in the field. L.W.Courtney drilled the well.
Copeland No. 7, the Union's first Huntington Beach producer, deepened to 3145 is drilling out the cement at 2080 and will be ready for a production test in a few days. Originally Copeland No.1 was a 200 barrel well, Copeland No.2 is drilling in brown sandy shale at 3200. Copeand No.6 at 2800 is in brown sandy shale, Hill Community No.1 set 2000 feet of 12-1-2. Brooks No.1 is 2000 feet in shale and boulders, Copeland No.3 is making 325 and No.5 is doing 325
On the Thompson-Goodwin property three wells are drilling. No.3 at 2800, No.4 at 2200 and No.6 at 1400.
J.W.Newell No.4 is rigging up to drill out the cement at 3240, McFadden No.3, drilled to 3100, is redrilling at 2800. Dickson No.1 at 3865 is rigging up to go ahead with the rotary, Yorba No.1 set the 6 inch at 3755 and is standing cemented.
On the Stern property No.3 is drilling at 2200 and No.4 at 1200.
Ayers-Parsons No.3 is down 1000 feet and No.4 is drilling at 500.
Shanklin No.1 is in the brown shale at 3290.
The General Petroleum completed Carpenter No.2 for the United Oil Company at 2900 feet and put the well on production. So far the well has pumped only mud and water.
It looks as though the water is not shut off.Group Z-1,the deep test well.down 4088 feet is laying down the 4 inch casing preparatory to going ahead.Jones No.1,the deepest well in the Yorba Linda district,is now at 4225 in gray sand.
The Bixby Ranch Syndicate shot off the 4-1-4 at 4360,will receiment and make a final production test.
Drilling at 3150 the National Security reports brown shale with enough colors and gas to make prospecting interesting.
The National Exploration's Olinda No.1 now drilling at 4200 feet shows a nice brown shale but no oil.Chino No.1 is out of trouble again and drilling at 1900 in brown shale.

The Huntington Central Oil Company's No. 1 is now a steady producer at 250 barrels. The cement being drilled out at No. 2 and something interesting will be known about this well in a few days. The cementing was done in the 8 inch at 3651.
Jameson No. 1 brought in last week is on the air lift and continues to make about 125 barrels. The air lift is getting rid of a lot of sand and obviates the continual pulling of rods and tubing and cleaning out. The air lift will undoubtedly prove a big help for the field.
At 2002 Huntington Union No. 1 is drilling in sandy shale and is shown a hard sand that carries the best oil colors the well has yet exhibited. Drilling is going nicely and the outlook is hopeful.
The cement is being drilled out on the Miller Syndicate and a water test is being made today. This well has shown up strong and expectations are stronger for a big well.
E. J. Miley pulled another nice well at No. 2. No. 2 drilled to 2753 feet came in Monday a 500 barre well. No. 1 is back and is making 650 barrels. No. 3 is drilling at 1100 feet, and the rig is up for No. 4. Hereafter the personal holdings of E. J. Miley at Huntington Beach will go under the name of the Roy! Oil Company. The Royal Oil Company does not include any of the holdings or interests of the State-Consolidated.
As announced last week the Milley-Keck Oil Company will pass into the hands of the Amalgamated. All wells started by the Milley-Keck will be completed by the A. O. Co. Drilling on No. 5 is at 1100 feet. No. 6 down 2600 feet is to be redrilled and the 8 inch set inside the 10 inch. No. 7 cemented the 8 inch at 3600 and is ready to drill out. No. 8 set the 8 inch at 3125.
The Federal Drilling Company is trying to drown out the O'Donnel No. 1 and bring the well in right. At 3741 the well started to flow by heads through the ten inch. It is the intention to put in the 8 inch perforated and put the well in condition to produce. The well seems to have the making of a heavy producer and adds another triumph to the Federal Drilling Company.

RICHFIELD
The Amalgamated Oil Company dropped the tubing at Thompson No. 1 at 3057. This well has shown production all the way from 150 to 400 barrels and just what it will finally do is a question. Kamerer No. 1 set the 10 inch at 2755 after getting a very good showing.
The Clark Oil Company struck its first real oil sand at 4310 feet. The strike has caused a little excitement. The well is just across the road from the Fullerton Oil Company's deep test well, Anaheim Union No. 1.
At 3002 feet the Merchants Petroleum company struck the oil sand at No. 2 and set the pipe. No. 3 is drilling at 1200 feet and Keck I's doing himself proud for a speed record.
The Placentin Pacific has been taken over by one of the oldest operating companies in the Richfield district. The announcement will positively be made by the Munger Oil Information Service next week. Operations on the Placentin Pacific are scheduled to be resumed at once, and some interesting developments are promised soon.
The field operations of the Chansler-Canfield Midway includes four wells. Bradford No. 2 is at 3985 in sandy brown shale. Bradford No. 4 is drilling at 3300 in sticky brown shale and Bradford No. 6 I sat 1400 in hard sand. Richfield No. 3 shows 2625 in the hard sand.
No work was done by the Pacific Oil Fields, Ltd., during the past week. It is assumed that the spudding in last week was done to hold the lease.
Recovering from what looked like a bad fishing job in a masterly manner, the Petroleum Midway has Richfield-Yorba (No. I) reaming down to 4805 feet to set the six inch screen pipe.
Drilled as a deep test well, the showings at times have been very encouraging and the expectations include a commercial producer at least, Consolidated No. 5 set the 10 inch at 2885 and the rig for No. 6 is going up. Krug No. 6 spudded in a few days ago and shows 1775 feet of hole. Drilling on Krug No. 7 is now at 2775 in shale and boulders, Issaacs No. I is drilling on iron at 2960.
A decision has been arrived at by the officials and backers of the Richfield Giant Oil Company to go on down and look for a deep high gravity test oil sand. Originally drilled to 4212 feet the well looked like a commercial producer with the water shut off. Unfortunately the water trouble was never overcome and the well was...
The Federal Drilling Company is trying to drown out the O'Donnell No. 1 and bring the well in right. At 3741 the well started to flow by heads through the ten inch. Petitfills Syndicate No. 2 has seemingly gotten rid of its sand troubles and is now hack flowing 450 barrels daily. No. 3 at 2260 is fishing for drill collar.
The Petroleum Company spudded in and started drilling on Porter No. 2. Sinetracking on the Brown is now at 3570.
Operations on the Petroleum Midway's properties for the week include the completion of a rig at Barker No. 1, Columbia 1-1 shot pipe at 3145 and is cleaning out. Columbia 3-2 set 515 feet of 15 1-2. Filliott No. 1 at 2936 is setting an oil string. Volimer-Meyer No. 1 at 3450 is being tubed for production, No. 2 is fishing at 2936 and No. 3 is building rig. Smythe No. 2 is at 2060 in hard sand, and Ray Walker No. 1 stands cemented at 3005.
The Republic Petroleum Company cemented its No. 2 through perforations at 2875 and the well will be tested out the latter part of the week.
The Rhoads Oil Company added another property to its list of holdings last week. The new addition to the Rhoads Oil Company is the property of the Sunset Petroleum. Rhoads will move the rig about 50 feet south and locate a second well on the east line of the property. The Sunset Petroleum No. 1 becomes Rhoads No. 4. Rhoads has leased one half of the Linoleum Factory property and will drill two wells there soon. Rhoads is working along conservative lines, taking nothing but proven property, and will make his company one of the substantial producing concerns in Huntington Beach.
The Rio Bravo's new producer No. 2 brought in last week at 2360 is making about 100 barrels. No. 1 formerly the Guarantee, moved the rig south 100 feet and is rigging up. No. 3 (Success) is 2400 feet in the shale.
The Standard Oil Company's Huntington B-2 now the highest gravity producing well in the field, increased its production from 450 to 525 barrels.
Consolidated No. 5 set the 10 inch at 2885 and the rig for No. 6 is going up. Krug No. 6 spudded in a few days ago and shows 1775 feet of hole. Drilling on Krug No. 7 is now at 2775 in shake and boulders. Issaacs No. 1 is drilling on iron at 2960.

Richfield-Yorba Oil Company No. 1 drilled to 3447 has been put on production and is doing about 150 barrels. Deepened almost 200 feet and showing a lot of good sand the well was fully expected to do considerably better.
Drilling on the Ridge Oil Company's No. 1 is now at 4500. The showings are running about the same and production is looked for now at 4600.
A bad fishing job resulted in the loss of 3940 feet of hole for the Standard Oil Company at Kraemer 2-17 and the rig is now being moved to a new location.
Completed at 4332 feet the Standard Oil Company's Kraemer 2-16 came in late last week a 500 barrel well. Vejar No. 1, drilled to 5183, is plugging back for further production tests.
The Selby-Root-Hogue Oil Company set the 10 inch in Klaxon Wardman No. 1 Saturday. No. 3 also stands cemented, the depth being 2896.
Sptendid time is being made on the Wents Syndicate. The drilling is now at 2800 feet in hard sand.
The Wonder Company, Ltd., set 611 feet of 15 1-2 inch at No. 4, drilling is at 1245 in sticky shale.
Chapman No. 1, a well that will live as long as oil is produced in Southern California, is having its reverses. Drilled originally to 3045. Chapman No. 1 came in doing 8000 dally, dropped to 5000 in a few adys and held this figure for almost half a year. In two and a half years the big producer declined to 500 barrels. Sand seems to be bothering the well now and it is off production, being washed and cleaned out. Chapman No. 5 at 4196 in the oilsand is held up fishing for drill collar and bit No. 11 is drilling in the oil sand at 2450. No. 12 in hard sand at 3225, No. 13 at 2400 in conglomerate, No. 14 at 4100 is in oil sand. Chapman No. 20 set the 10 inch at 3382.
