PAGE FOUR Society CARRIE LOU EVANS, Editor Telephone 540 CARDS ENJOYED AT BERKENSTOCK HOME Mrs. Lewis Lemke and Mrs. Victor Elmers entertained Tuesday evening at the Berkenstock home in Placentia where during the early evening "500" was played. Mrs. Raymond Smith of Anaheim and Howard Krause of Fullerton won first honors. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Kraemer of Placentia each succeeded in capturing second prizes. After the interesting game refreshments were served in the dining room and the evening was concluded with a dance. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Smith of Anaheim, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Kraemer of Placentia, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Krause, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kell, Mr. and Mrs. John Ortega, Mrs. Lucy Ortega, Mr. and Mrs. William Berkenstock, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Lemke and Mr. and Mrs. Victor Elmers, all of Fullerton. INTERESTING MISSIONARY RALLY AT FULLERTON More than one hundred missionary members of the Methodist Woman's Home Missionary society attended the annual rally held in the Methodist church Tuesday. A feature of the afternoon program was a detailed report on the recent national convention of the organization, made by Mrs. H. M. Northup of Los Angeles. A delegate Devotions were conducted by Mrs. S. S. Sampson of Orange. Other numbers on the program were: Music, Mrs. Scott, Fullerton; offering, "Our Hospital." Rev. G. L. Reynolds, field secretary; literature; Mrs. Hutchinson, Anaheim, and prayer. MRS. HENRY HEYING ENTERTAINS FRIENDS Mrs. Henry Heying entertained with a delightful afternoon party yesterday in honor of a coterie of her friends. Cards was the past time of the afternoon. Mrs. Heying announced at the beginning of the games that prizes would not be awarded, which made careful playing taboo, but the game became so interesting that the hostess did award prizes, with Mrs. Henry Hussman scoring high and Mrs. F. Mang receiving the consolation prize. Refreshments were then served to Mrs. Fred Mang, Mrs. Henry Hussman, Mrs. Emma Gribbin, Mrs. Richard Groos, Mrs. Charles Leusch, Mrs. Grace Halliday, Mrs. Lester Eldson. The early evening was given to an entertainment of recitations and songs. The guests were then invited to the banquet hall where Chef A. H. Fape with his committee served a lobster supper. Other dishes were served with the supper. This was followed by euchre games and songs. Late in the evening dancing was enjoyed by music furnished by the Estrada orchestra. MRS. ROBERT MANN BECOMES BRIDE Many of the friends of Mrs. Robert Mann will be surprised to hear of her marriage recently to Mr. Charles Force of Los Angeles. Mrs. Mann has been a resident off Anaheim for the last few years and is well known by the Anaheim women. Her future home will be 124 West 96th street, Los Angeles. STANDARD BEARERS TO MEET FRIDAY NIGHT The Standard Bearers of the Methodist church will meet 7:30 o'clock Friday night for the regular monthly business meeting. Dues for the month will be collected at this meeting. A short social hour will be enjoyed at the close of the meeting. HOWE BIBLE CLASS TO HAVE BANQUET The Howe Bible class of the Christian church will hold a banquet at 7:30 o'clock Friday night at the church. Representatives from the Long Beach class will be present to give enthusiastic reports of the Bible class work in Long Beach and help to organize the work of the local class. They will also give the musical program of the meeting. All men of Anaheim not belonging to the other classes are eligible for this class. P. Mitchell, county superintendent of schools. The sessions will be held in the high school auditorium in Santa Ana. The program completed by Superintendent Mitchell and sent to Los Angeles for printing with the program of the Southern California Teachers' association institute which will be held the two days following the county sessions follows: Monday, December 19—Invocation and music by the faculty trio of the Fullerton high school and the Santa Ana high school orchestra; addresses by Dr. Elwood P. Cubberly, of the education department of Stanford university; Dr. Will C. Wood, state superintendent of public instruction; Dr. Charles A. Prosser; E.R. Snyder, state commissioner of vocational education. Tuesday, December 30—Addresses by Dr. Charles H. Bandits Force Victim To Indorse $200 in Checks LOS ANGELES, Dec. 1—Payment on four travelers' checks for $50 each was ordered stopped when Edward B. Dahl of Klamath Falls, Ore., reported to the police that bandits had held him up near Eighth and Broadway yesterday noon and forced him at the point of a gun to indorse the checks so they could easily cash them. Dahl told the police that he alighted from a Southern Pacific train at Arcade depot and was approached by an affable stranger. The unknown man told Dahl hotel accommodations were scarce and offered to take the visitor to an uptown house. At Eighth and Main streets an elderly man joined them, walked two blocks and shoved a gun against Dahl's side. ALL-DAY FISHING OFF SAN JUAN An all-day fishing trip was enjoyed yesterday off the coast at San Juan "By the Sea". The party motored to Balboa and took a launch to San Juan. On the trip, William Schumacher suffered sea sickness. Not one of the party was successful in catching any fish. They returned late last night and enjoyed a lunch at the home of Mrs. Frank Gates. Those on the trip were Mr. and Mrs. H. Smith, Mrs. Elizabeth Petersen, Mrs. Hazel Bloomdell of Jamestown, N. Y., Mr. and Mrs. William Bender of Santa Ana, and Mr. and Mrs. Coonie Mauerhan of Anaheim. The executive board meeting of the Presbyterian Sunday school will be held at the new Manse on East Broadway, between Claudina and Philadelphia streets, tonight at 7:30 o'clock. Following the regular business a social hour will be enjoyed when the guests will be shown through the pastor's new home.
