SEXTON GIVES $500 TO ORANGE SHOW;
NEST EGG FOR 1922
Fred L. Sexton, the of D. M. S. fertilizer with deposits near Torrance, California, was a welcome visitor at the Chamber of Commerce today and offered his check for $500, to the 1922 executive committee of the California Valencia Orange show, stipulating that it might either be used as an investment drawing interest or as a cash gift outright.
On questioning as to the cause of this generosity, Mr. Sexton stated that the First Annual California Valencia Orange show has furnished his company direct sales amounting to not less than 2000 tons of this material and "I can well afford to give you $500 out of this order alone."
"The first show has opened to us a market in several parts of the state in which we had hitherto no business. I estimate that the direct results from our small outlay in the Orange show will run to 5000 tons of our material within the next four months. In making this offer I only have one requirement to ask and that is that my space shall be in approximately the same location and at least twice as large for next year."
The offer of E. M. Chalmers to surrender his certificate for $100 and similar tenders made by other subscribers to the fund of 1921 have been tentatively refused by Herman Stern, executive chairman, for the reason that no action can be taken until the full committee examines the audited final report and determines on what basis the finance operation of 1922 show may be best founded.
