SANTA CRUZ, Cal., May 28.—The avocado, more familiarly known as the "alligator" pear, is destined to become a product of this part of California, according to H. R. Dakin, a local rancher. Dakin has experimented successfully with the fruit and has found that the climate and soil are well fitted for its culture.
The alligator pear is a native product of the Philippines, where it was used as a substitute for butter. The meat of the fruit is of high nutritive value, and in the United States it used chiefly in salads, being very "rich" in substance.
The modern trend is to make church service snappy, and doubtless there are many who would like to see the choir in tights.
