Buena Park Construction Reaches All-Time High for First 3 Months BUENA PARK — Construction in the Buena Park area has reached an all-time high, according to H. A. "Hub" Chamberlain, superintendent of Building said yesterday. Construction for the three-month period beginning January 1, is almost three times greater than for the same period last year, Chamberlain said. The city has issued 961 building permits for construction valued at $11,921,416. This is the highest for this period in the city's history. Only 372 permits for building were issued for the same period last year, Chamberlain added. The six-year-old city issued permits valued at $25 million dollars last year making 1958 the second highest building year. This year's beginning pace threatens to eclipse the previous high set in 1955 of $38 million. For the month of April, 190 building permits were issued valued at $2,653,388, according to Chamberlain. The single family units included 68 homes in the exclusive Bellehurst development. Their value was $1,440,277. Also on the single family housing units, Koppe builders La Palma and Dale Ave., corner tract of 73 homes brought in $780,585 worth of valuation to the city. A total of $143,665 of valuation was brought in to the city by four commercial permits issued during the month of April. They included Hamer Enterprises $103,995, Ford Agency Shop, $1,745, and a Ford agency building of $33,500. Other permits, 21 in all, for alterations, additions and patios were valued at $25,276. Two commercial alteration permits, $1,746; seven swimming pools, $17,900 and four signs; $4,400 were voted. During April, 165 construction permits were issued valued at $2,-069,448. Chamberlain concluded. DEAR ABBY: I've been widower 71 years old and live house for him all these years. He Sounds a Little 'Moldy!' by Abigail Van Buren DEAR ABBY: I've been friends with a man for 18 years. He is a tower 71 years old and lives with his widowed sister who has kept me for him all these years. She is 79. I am 62 and a widow. He is an of means but very set in his ways. He doesn't like "changes" still has his original furniture, pictures hanging from the mould-on wires, and lamps with beads and fringe. His sister asks me I don't marry him and "take him off her hands." I enjoy his company in small doses but don't think I could take a steady diet this man. My friends think I am out of my mind for passing up opportunity. Am I? INDEPENDENT DEAR INDEPENDENT: Unless you are in the market for a valuantique, pass him up. He sounds like he'd make a better "friend" a husband. DEAR ABBY: I have heard that hypnosis can help people do things they are capable of doing but could never do before. I would to improve my typing speed. Most jobs require at least 40 words per minute and I can't seem to build my speed up that high. Could recommend a psychiatrist who can hypnotize me for this pur-alone? MISS D DEAR MISS D: I do not recommend specific doctors. I suggest you try to build up your typing speed through practice. Hypnosis nothing to fool around with. DEAR ABBY: Three years ago when I was in Seventh Grade I was unpopular. No boy would even look at me. Except one. He had a year, smoked, drank and was just horrible. But I didn't care. was a boy and that was all that mattered (I thought). He moved and everyone forgot about him and I started going around with kids. I came a long way and this year was elected Vice-President of the Freshman class. Now this terrible boy has moved back. Heorse than ever. He is trying to pick up where he left off. I hate club him but I don't want him hanging around me. He tries to put hands on me in the halls and calls me "Doll" and "Baby" and I die. How can I keep him away from me before he ruins my station? ALMOST RUINED DEAR ALMOST: Your reputation is something that you — and you — can ruin. Tell him that you are not interested in him bea "hello" and "goodbye." If you behave like a lady, exchanging real greetings with this boy will do you no harm. BOSTON (UPI) — At least 410 would-be suicides are alive today, thanks to Rescue, Inc. This was the report today from the Rev. Kenneth B. Murphy, the Roman Catholic priest who founded the unique organization to discourage self-destruction. He described the activities of Rescue, Inc., at the 10th annual Conference on Alcoholism. Founded last January as a private, non-sectarian service, Rescue, Inc., has headquarters at Boston City Hospital. Anyone contemplating suicide can call the organization's well-publicized telephone number. At the end of the line he will find a sympathetic ear and a reassuring voice. And soon afterward a representative of Rescue, Inc., will visit him. Father Murphy reported that one-fifth of those saved from suicide were alcoholics. Brown to release the entire text of a so-called secret report on Mafia infiltration in Southern California. Parker urged release of the report made by Alvin Goldstein in a speech before the American Legion Luncheon Club Tuesday. He contended Brown merely picked preferred items in the Goldstein report.
