"MAD SCRAMBLE!" is the term used when three wild broncs and the same number of angry steers, all with cowboys aboard, are let out of chutes simultaneously onto a rodeo field. Viewers will become acquainted with this and other rodeo language when they watch the new weekly Texas Rodeo which bows tonight at 7:30 p.m. Channel 4. In addition to the "mad scramble," there will be such events as bareback bronx riding, calf roping, bulldogging and barrel racing. This show could catch on just as bowling and roller skating shows have in the past.
MUSIC MAKERS... Music Theater has a half-hour variety show scheduled for tonight, starring Bill Hayes and Florence Henderson, 8:30 p.m., Channel 4... Pat Suzuki, star of "Flower Drum Song," and comedian Cliff Norton will be Pat Boone's guests tonight, 9 p.m., Channel 7... COMEDY CAPERS . . . Lily decides to take an apartment of her own when she inadvertently ABOUT Stamps
By ANDREW FERENCE
June 26 is the day that two countries will have almost identical postage stamps issued on the same day and for the same reason. The stamps will mark the completion of the Saint Lawrence Waterway project, a long, long dream of many people of the two countries. Utilizing the colors of the flags of both countries, the stamp will be blue and red on a white back ground, featuring the Great Lakes and connecting links. The Canadian will be bilingual, English and French; the American, just Ameri can. The Canadian first day of sales, will, as usual, be at Ottawa.

HOLLYWOOD — Unlike Millie Perkins, who claims she had no desire to become an actress, Diane Baker, who made her screen debut as Anne's older sister Margot in "The Diary of Anne Frank," was determined to become an actress and a fine one.
She studied with several coaches near home in Sherman Oaks, Calif., and did modeling to pay for her lessons. She was one of six finalists in the annual Miss Rheingold contest and was taken to New York for the conclusion of the competition, an honor that would have netted her about $50,000 in prizes and salary. She lost, but stayed on in the Big Town to learn more about acting until she became ill and undernourished and had to return to the film capital. Diane came to the attention of director George Stevens when she applied at 20th for consideration under the studio's New Talent program.
A Hollywood scribbler is doing the story of the infamous Mrs. Elizabeth Duncan, and will title it: "I Want to Live, Too!" So did her murdered daughter-in-law, I fancy.
Marilyn Monroe's drama coach and mentor was Natasha Lytesse, who has this to say: "I worked with Marilyn from scratch, teaching her how to be free and open and natural. She was a wonderful pupil." The secret of acting, according to Natasha, is naturalness.
Her favorites? "James Dean was not accomplished, but I loved him—he had a magnetism. Marlon Brando is a beautiful actor. Laurence Olivier — I love his acting tenderly; a beautiful artist, I cry when I watch him. Shirley Booth—a great actress. Audrey Hepburn has a special 'lost child' quality. She acts with her soul and is fun to watch."
Be thankful it isn't compulsory to see "Compulsion." After Diane Varsi's dreary role, small wonder she took to the hills.
Barbara Rush will marry-up with Publicist Warren Cowen, come mid June . . Brigitte Bardot is off to Moscow in June to attend the preem of her new flicker, "Babette Goes to War." . . The vacation Jill St. John would like to take some day "Is an African safari, after I've gone through Europe."
On the "Spartacus" set, Tony Curtis said: "A $200 wig is being processed in the event my hair doesn't grow long enough for my part as a slave-gladiator."
Seems Tony has one of the slowest growing top-knots in Glitter Gulch, yet his role requires a considerable mop of Roman-style fuzz. "I really want to play it with the wig," admitted Tony. "I figure I'll get a million laughs, for it's made of yak hair!"
Jack Carson's description of a gal-about-town: "She always looks so bed-rangled."

There were 320,000 first day
covers canceled March 16, when
the 4½ Hermitage regular postage
stamp was placed on sale at Hermitage, Tennessee. This is almost
three times greater than the number of first day covers canceled
July 11, 1838 when the 4½ Presidential series went on sale at Washington, D. C.
The Post Office Department will no longer accept responsibility for replacement of first day covers on which stamps have been placed in any position other than the upper right corner in the accepted fashion. Collectors affixing stamps towards the center of the envelope in an effort to secure a "bull's eye" cancellation will in the future do so at their own risk.
Beginning with the 4-cent 49 star Flag commemorative, plate numbers on all stamps printed on the Giori press will appear in the top and bottom margin corners of each sheet, rather than in the left and right side margins, as at present.
Four philatelic exhibition postal stations, with special cancellations, have been authorized. The first will be in use May 1 to 3 in conjunction with ROMPEX (Rocky Mountain Philatelic Exhibition) at Denver, Colo. The second, Johnstown, Penna., May 9 and 10 for "POWEX '59." Third, May 16 and May 17 for the Wisconsin Federation of Stamp Clubs' convention at Marinette, Wisconsin and the last at Detroit, Michigan, August 7 to 9 for the American First Day Cover Society convention and exhibition.
Another new one! The Post Office Department announced it will issue a commemorative 4 cent Silver Centennial stamp on June 8, first day of sale at Virginia City, Nevada, the 100th anniversary of the discovery of silver at the Comstock Lode in Nevada. To see Nevada City is something one will not forget very easily. First Day Covers will be available from the postmaster at Virginia City. Remittance must accompany your order.

Lookin' and Listenin'
By Ann Wardell Saunders
HOLLYWOOD — No doubt about it — TV aims to give the movie producers a run for their money, come fall.
The hour-long "Riverboat" series about life on the rivers of the Mississippi Valley in the roaring 1840's (and in color) promises something newer and better in televising.
Darren McGavin playmakes Grey Holden, young owner of the steamboat Enterprise, an authentic life-sized vessel custom-ordered for the series, with Burt Reynolds making like Ben Fraser, a young riverman Grey picked to pilot his boat.
"Storywise," says producer Jules Bricken, "our series will combine the dramatic impact of a Broadway hit with the action thrills of a motion picture extravaganza.
"This is an action series set against America's riverboat era with strong emphasis on the timeless moral problem of human relations. We'll be doing some pretty sophisticated things."
Jules explained that the Enterprise is not a showboat but a working riverboat that is operated as a profit-making business venture. "Nor will the series be about Mississippi River gamblers. The stories will spring from the principals involvement with a historically accurate cross-section of the period — wealthy cotton planters, rough frontiersmen, pioneering merchants, river pirates, gamblers and neer-do-wells."
Hear tell that Fidel Castro has contacted Russell Birdwell to do a public relations job for him. Dinah Shore will do a dramatic role with Joseph Schildkraut in "Affairs of Anatele" on her show, May 4... George Gobel will turn up on CBS next season, alternating
Sullivan's "H.M.S. Pinafore" has been rescheduled for May 10.
John Smith has resigned as Cimarron City's Sheriff and will take on the part of Slim Sherman, 21-year-old head of Twelve Mile House, who is one of two brothers operating a stagecoach relay station in lawless "Laramie, a one-hour color series. Robert Crawford Jr. will playmake his 14-year old brother Andy, and Hoagy Carmichael will play Jonesy, a family friend and-handyman past his prime. Robert Fuller portrays Jess Harper, a young drifter who allies himself with the Shermans in their constant conflict with the lawless element.
A guest star will be included in each script, beginning with Dan Duryea and Everett Sloane in the preem episode.
Rebecca Welles says she likes to season cooked vegetables with a few drops of liquid smoke.

Eyes Divorce Move
HOLLYWOOD (UPI) — Swedish actress Anita Ekberg is consulting an attorney about divorcing her husband, English actor Anthony Steel.
The blonde, bosomy actress was noticeably annoyed Monday when Steel failed to meet her at the airport on her return from a year-long film-making jaunt in Europe.
Attorney Simon Taub said Tuesday Miss Ekberg consulted with him.
"I suppose a divorce is contemplated," he said. "There is nothing definite about that until Miss Ekberg has talked things over with her husband and I am trying to locate him now."

Around Hollywood
By Vernon Scott
HOLLYWOOD (UPI) — Suzy Parker, movietown's beautiful enigma, returned to work this week, as elusive as ever and still unwilling to take Hollywood seriously.
"I'm the only actress who can say she's making a comeback after appearing in just two pictures," she laughed. "I've been gone 14 months, and I'll be darned if I'll say 'it's good to be back.'"
The tall (5-foot, eight-inch) ex-fashion model sipped a Tom Collins and wryly observed that the less anyone knows about her the happier she is.
Her secret marriage to French journalist Pierre De La Salle became known last June when Suzy barely escaped death in an autotrain collision in Florida. Her father was killed in the crash.
The red-hatred, dimpied actress finches at her reputation for being a "mystery girl," but she steadfastly refuses to dispel the illusion.
Naturally Complicated Person
"Most actresses work hard at being basically simple," she said. "I love being naturally complicated. I suppose if I have to be a mystery it's because I don't lead a very public life. No one knows very much about me, and I want to keep it that way."
"I won't even admit where I was born."
Reminded that her 20th Century-Fox studio biography states she was born in San Antonio, Tex., Suzy shrugged.
Confident About Picture
"I know the type extremely well," she said without further explanation. "I think it will be a good picture, but in my only two movies I starred with Cary Grant and Gary Cooper."
"The only way I'll be able to top those leading men is by starring in a two-hour movie all by myself.
"I just can't take acting very seriously," she twinkled. "Sometimes I give myself lectures about that. It's just that I know there is something more important in the world—although I don't know what it is."
Performers should have as much privacy as private citizens. Selling your private life is not part of becoming an actress, or even a movie star.
"I don't like reading details of other people's lives. I think it is vulgar. And my own private life is boring. When I'm through making this picture I'll return to New York—and even more privacy."

Plaster Thieves Pilfer Apartments Being Built
SANTA ANA (OCNS) — The theft of 28 sacks of plastic cement and 40 more of plaster were reported to the Orange County's Sheriff's Department by C. Russell Shinnefeld, who is working on some apartments at Lewis and Compton in Garden Grove.
The sacks taken were enough to plaster one house, he told deputies.
