COSMETICS—Street Floor Come See Our "TREE of JEWELS" During SQR Jewelry Week SQR Prison Term Given Marine for Attack By Orange County News Service Although his record in about any other type of criminal action would have merited probation, Marine Staff Sergeant James A. Walsh committed the one kind of crime that called for only one kind of sentence—prison. This was the decision made Friday by Superior Judge Robert Gardner as he sentenced 16-year-Marine veteran for the rape of a 29-year-old Anaheim woman at gunpoint Feb. 22. Punishment for the offense calls for 1-50 years imprisonment. A kidnapping charge against the 35-year-old defendant, who appeared in court dressed in his Marine uniform, was dismissed. Attorneys on both sides of the fence and the probation department all indicated the seriousness of the offense, but on the other hand pointed to the man's perfect record as a military man and as a civilian. In most instances such a record would have automatically meant some kind of probation. The man was also found not to be a sex psychopath. Judge Gardner said he had hoped the defendant would have been found to be in such a condition, but he realized the problem was now on his shoulders. Explaining that society can not accept this kind of behavior, he ordered that probation be denied and sentenced the defendant to prison for the term prescribed by law. In the audience was the man's wife, who burst into tears. Walsh looked at his wife, and at the judge. Then he bowed his head. Although the sentence was stiff, Hunt Board of Directors Elect Committee Chief Harold M. Williams, vice president of Hunt Foods and Industries Inc., was elected a director and member of the executive management committee of the company at the April 23 meeting of its board of directors. It was announced by Norton Simon, chairman of the board. Talking Book For Blind To Have Anniversary SACRAMENTO (UPI) — The talking book is 25 years old 1950. The plaintiff claims that the defendants have made disparaging and defaming remarks about the firm, thus jeopardizing the company's sales. The dispute began months ago when the eight families filed a court action, asking that the Sunny Hills Development Co. be restrained from building multi-family dwellings in that area. In the present action, the company alleges that the eight families used disparging language in their request for the restraining order against the development firm. Meanwhile, a referendum had been requested by Sunny Hills residents in order that they might vote in the city council's recent action in zoning portions of Sunny Hills for multi-family and commercial use.
