PLENTY OF FREE PARKING IN THE REAR OF THE STORE Marine Arrested On Suspicion of Attack SANTA ANA (OCNS) — A 37+ year-old Camp Pendleton Marine is being questioned today by Sheriff's investigators, as a suspect in the hammer attack of a 12-year-old Stanton girl, Oct. 22 of last year. He is Sgt. Robert Granham, 1600 Wisteria, Santa Ana, who is charged with armed robbery, burglary and rape. Granham was arrested by Sheriff's Deputy's Saturday evening, near 15841 Golden West, Santa Ana. They picked up the suspect when they observed his suspicious actions and following a complaint by a housewife that her lights had gone out. Deputies discovered that someone had tampered with the light fuses in the rear of the home of Mrs. Mary Navarrette. Granham was seen walking near the home, minus his shoes. Granham reportedly said he was looking for a friend, but later changed his story and said he was out for a walk, following a quarrel with his wife. Deputies in their report, said the Marine was a possible suspect in the case of an attack on a Stanton girl last year, an attack committed by someone who tampered with the light fuses of the home and forced his way into the residence through a rear door. Walking in his stocking feet and wearing white socks on his hands, the prowler reportedly struck the young victim, Donna Lee Booth, 7281 Grand Oak, with a hammer, four times. The yells of the terrified girl attracted the parents, who slept in a nearby bedroom. Police found the tools the man had used, plus some of the white socks he used in the burglary and attack. Deputies Saturday evening, first stopped on Golden West when they noticed a small sports car sticking out into the street. The motor of the vehicle was still warm. Following Mrs. Navarrette's complaint, they parked their vehicle behind the sports car and waited. They observed Granham walking down the street past the car, in a staggering manner. The sergeant approached Albert Alva- The second incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m., Sunday morning, as a woman was walking to church, going north on Clinton. At the alley between Santa Ana St., and Broadway, a car pulled up blocking her progress. A young man then exposed himself and made an obscene remark. When the victim shouted at the man, he fled, "burning rubber." The woman then reported the incident to police. 600,000 Alcoholics Estimated in State BERKELEY (UPI) — The State Department of Public Health estimates there are 600,000 alcoholics in California.
