NEW YORK (UPI)—Some hesitation came into the market after a generally higher opening.
Profit taking cut 3 points from American Telephone, 5½ from Zenith, more than 2 points from Ampex, a point or so in Goodrich, Philadelphia & Reading, International Paper, U.S. Gypsum. Owens-Ford the big feature on a rise of 6 points to 114 following a sharply higher earnings report.
Texas instruments rose more than 2, Lukens Steel 2 points and there was continued demand for the chemicals. Allied Chemical and DuPont each picked up nearly a point. Thiokol gained over 3 and Eastman Kodak over a point.
Auto shares were narrowly mixed. Oils generally lost fractions. Rails and utilities moved narrowly.

Liquor Store Clerk Robbed At Knifepoint
FULLERTON (OCNS) — Two well dressed Negroes held up a side liquor store clerk at knife-point, tied him with wire and made off with $125.78 cash Monday night.
The clerk, James Wesley Arnold, 24, 3617 West Ave., told police the men entered the Valencia Liquor Store, at 8:20 p.m. As they browsed, Arnold turned away for a moment and one of the suspects "stuck something sharp" in his back and said, "let's go, buddy," Arnold reported.
They forced him into a restroom and tied his hands with automotive wiring. Arnold said they released him temporarily a few minutes later and forced him to open the cash register, then pushed him back into the restroom and retied him.
Bette Mae McCarthy, 29, of 1236 W. Valencia Dr., told police she was entering the store at 8:43 p.m. when she saw one of the suspects reading a newspaper by the front door. The other suspect brushed by her and both disappeared around the rear of the store.
Police said Arnold had several superficial scratches and a minor cut in the middle of his back where one of the robbers kept jabbing him with the knife. Arnold did not require treatment.
It was later discovered the robbers also took a bottle of liquor and some food.
Corona Man Killed Headon Traffic Crash
LAGUNA BEACH (OCN) Mumeriano N. Munar, 54, rana was killed in a head-on crash on Laguna Canyon near Niguel Rd. at 7:10 a.m.
Dep. Coroner Wally Fox Munar's body was removed at Laguna Beach Funeral Home deceased was an employee Hotel Laguna.
Fox said Munar's car coy with an auto driven by 1st L H. Marlowe, 25, of Camp Piont. He was taken to El Toro rine Base Dispensary where was later reported in fair tion.
Four Navy Men K As Bomber Explode
MANILA (UPI) — A U.S. patrol bomber exploded in weather during takeoff in Bay today, killing four of crew members aboard. Twere badly injured.

'I Don't Care Girl'
In Critical Condition
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (UPI) — Mitzi Dore, burlesque's "I Don't Care Girl" who police said attempted suicide by gulping an overdose of tranquilizing pills while on an airliner, remained in critical condition today at Daniel Freeman Hospital.
The attractive red-haired stripper from Alexandria, Va., was found it a stupor on the women's restroom aboard an American Airlines plane from Washington about a half hour before it landed at Los Angeles International Airport.
Miss Dore, 32, carried a note addressed to Fred Raulin of Washington. It said:
"Dear Fred: Hope you marry Nancy and will live happy ever after. I just can't go on living. Life is meaningless for me.
"When I realized I lost you, I wouldn't want to stay in your way. But just can't. Love is not what it is. All my love, Mitzi."

Four Utility Companies Ask Court to Return Over-Taxes Paid to Cities

Claiming the county and many cities have levied illegal tax against them, four public utilities have filed a tax recovery suit Superior Court asking the resumed of $146,049.55.
Named as defendants in the case is the County of Orange, Anamia, Buena Park, Fullerton, Newport Beach, Orange, Santa
Habra, Huntington Beach, Seal
Chach, Garden Grove and Cyess.
The plaintiffs — The Southern Pacific Co., Pacific Electric Railroad Co., Southern Pacific Pipe Line, and the Northwestern Pacific
Railroad Co. contend they were charged 50 per cent of the market value of their property while the state wide local rates were only 7 per cent.
The taxes were paid by the firms but under protest and now they are asking the courts for the return of the excess amounts.
The plaintiffs claim the 50 per cent rate is illegal and fraudulent and contrary to the state and federal laws.

Freeway Auto Flip Hurts Men in SA
SANTA ANA (OCNS) — A sports roadster overturned on the Santa Ana Freeway here at 2 a.m. today, injuring the two occupants.
The spectacular flip occurred just south of First Street, and outside the Santa Ana city limits.
Taken to Santa Ana Community Hospital were the driver, Alam Nelson, 28, of Bell, and Richard McMann, 25, Glendale. They were returning to Los Angeles County from Laguna Beach.
According to the report of the California Highway Patrol the northbound sports coupe initially swerved into the dirt center divider and then careened to the right across both northbound lanes, overturning near the First Street off-ramp. Both men were thrown from the overturning vehicle.

Mrs. Dickson is said to have called the station, saying she had seen these two running down the pier, and they stopped where this woman was sitting down, fishing, grabbed her fish knife from a of gear and put it to her thigh. Then they jerked her by the hand and pulled her up to her feet.
SAN QUENTIN, Calif. (UPDATED)
Two convicts escaped from Quentin Prison today and sent a woman hostage at knife-piece. The escapees held the woman at the end of the Marin County jail and Gun Club pier just north of the prison while armed guards faced them in an impact.
San Quentin is about 12 m north of San Francisco on the west side of San Francisco Bay.
The two convicts, both trust working outside the prison wiled on foot about a mile and half to the Rod and Gun Club about 9:15 a.m. p.s.t.
A gun club member said convicts pulled a knife off a woman as she was fishing off pier.
"Tell the Coast Guard to away from the pier or we will the woman if anyone comes no one shouted.
The Coast Guard sent a boat and helicopter to the convicts yelled to the on guards facing them to a boat so they could across San Francisco Bay.

Modena Youth Taken From Parents in Tiff

A 15-year-old El Modena youth who tried to stop a fight between his mother and father Sunday has been taken to a foster home following the arrest of his parents by sheriff's deputies on drunk in private charges.
Booked into the jail facility were James Leegrand Evans, 36, and his wife, Helen, of 12248 Alameda.
Also in the foster home is a 9-month-old infant the couple was caring for. The parents of little Rex Metcalf, whose father is a major in the Marines at El Toro, are reportedly in the State of Washington because of a death in the family.
The infant was left with Evans and his wife.
Deputies said Evans' son, attempted to keep him from striking his wife. Both Evans, a Marine, and his wife, had been reportedly drinking. It was reported.

Double Funeral Held For Kin of C.W.Bland
Funeral services were held yesterday in Los Angeles, for the aunt and mother of a long-time Bulletin employee.
The double funeral under the direction of Pierce Brothers followed the deaths, both within 24 hours of each other, of Mrs. Charles Bland, mother of Bulletin National Advertising Manager C. William (Bill) Bland and Mrs. Bland's sister, Mrs. Ruth Gillman.
Mrs. Gillman passed away Thursday at her home in Los Angeles. Mrs. Bland, only recently arrived in California to visit her sister, passed away the following day.
They are survived by several nephews and nieces and Bland, a nine-year employee of the Bulletin Display Ad Department.
Interment will be in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Farmer's Insurance Building Set in SA
SANTA ANA (OCNS) — The Santa Ana City Council last night approved a variance permitting the farmers Underwriters Assn.to construct a $1,500,000 insurance building east of Flower St. between Memory Lane and the freeway.
The vote was 4 to 1. Councilman Al Hall cast the dissenting ballot.
In okaying the building, the council over-rode a denial recommendation by the city's planning commission.

LOS ANGELES (UPI)—The nationwide morning weather summary as prepared by the U.S. Weather Bureau:
A great band of fair weather extended early today from the Pacific Northwest through the Great Lakes region into New England. Farther south, another long band of cloudiness accompanied by spotty precipitation ran from the eastern slopes of the Rockies through the south and central plains and into the middle and south Atlantic Coast states.
There was scattered snow from the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado into the high plains, while thunderstorms occurred from Eastern Texas through Alabama into the Tennessee Valley.
Warnings were issued for severe thunderstorms with damaging winds from Louisiana into Alabama. Scattered showers were expected from eastern Texas through the gulf states into the Carolinas.
Generally fair weather prevailed in the southwestern part of the nation, with high temperatures expected to range in the 70s and 80s in most of those states.

QUENTIN, Calif. (UPI) — convicts escaped from San Quentin Prison today and seized woman hostage at knife-point.
The escapees held the woman at end of the Marin County Rod Gun Club pier just north of prison while armed prisoners faced them in an impasse. Quentin is about 12 miles of San Francisco on the west of San Francisco Bay.
The two convicts, both trustless, lying outside the prison walls, on foot about a mile and a half to the Rod and Gun Club at 9:15 a.m. p.s.t.
The gun club member said the convicts pulled a knife on the man as she was fishing off the dock.
The Coast Guard to stay away from the pier or we will kill the woman if anyone comes near," she shouted.
The Coast Guard sent a patrol boat and helicopter to the scene. The convicts yelled to the prisons facing them to get on a boat so they could flee across San Francisco Bay.
The woman hostage was beheaded to be a Mrs. Theresa Lopes, Rafael.

LONG BEACH (UPI) — City fireman John W. Makemason, 43, said he was driving his pickup truck Monday and listening for a rattle when his vehicle jumped a curb, knocked down a sign and smashed into a tree.
Now everything in the truck rattles, Makemason said.

SACRAMENTO (UPI)—A new high March employment was reached last month when 5,609,000 persons went at work.
Director of Industrial Relations John F. Henning said there were 133,000 more jobs in March than in the previous record year, 1957, and 37,000 more than existed in February this year.
