ANNOUNCEMENTS OBITUARIES SWADBURG, Albertine, 73, a native of Norway and a resident of Anaheim for 11 years, died yesterday at her home, 1224 Pearl Street. She leaves her husband, Alvin A. Swadburg; two sons, Willard P. Swadburg of Anaheim and Milton A. Swadburg of St. Paul, Minn.; a sister, Mrs. Elaine M. Gunnarson of San Diego, and three grandchildren. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and the Order of the Eastern Star No. 19 of Minnesota, Minn. Funeral services will be conducted from the Hilgenfeld Mortuary Chapel on Wednesday at 10 o'clock. Rev. Harry F. Stief, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, will officiate with interment in the Melrose Abbey Memorial Park. DARKE, Cella Frances, 70, a native of Pennsylvania who came to Anaheim six months ago and who resided at 913 S. Palm Street, died April 3rd at the Orange County General Hospital after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband, William B. Darke; one daughter, Miss F. Kathleen Darke of Anaheim; one son, Edward H. Darke of Anaheim; three sisters, Miss Catherine O'Brien and Miss Florence O'Brien, both of Sacramento, and Mrs. Thomas E. Ray of Colfax, and five grandchildren. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan, and of the Confraternity Stocks NEW YORK (UPI)—Stocks extended at a good pace today the gains scored in last week's recovery move. Ford Motor provided an early feature opening at 59% and appearing later at 60, up a point, a new high for the year, and within 4½ points of the original offering price, a level which has not been matched since the initial day of trading. Other motors improved fractionally. Blue chip American Telephone gained 1½ points. Zenith soared 7½ to 279½%. National Cash Register ran up to 70%. Drug stocks were in demand with Bristol Myers up 4½ at 95%, American Home Products 4½ higher at 141¼%; Vick Chemical 8 higher at 133. Curtiss-Wright rose 1½ to 367%, pacing a good aircraft group. United Aircraft, Lockheed and Chance ought each rose over a point. Steels and nonferrous metals were firm. Oils were narrowly mixed. Rails also were narrow moving. Wilken Way, Anaheim, passed away after a brief illness Saturday at the Anaheim Memorial Hospital. A native of Trinidad, Colorado, she had lived in California 49 years and in Anaheim for the past two years. Mrs. Pierson was employed by the Pacific Scientific Areoproducts of Anaheim. Surviving are three sons, Lt. Richard E. Pierson, Waco, Texas, Donald K. Pierson of Van Nuys and Allen Pierson, Anaheim. Also surviving are two brothers, Fred Barnett, Alaska and Earl Barnett of No. Hollywood, a sister, Mrs. Mussel Hoy of China Lake, Calif., and four grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday 2:00 p.m. at Backs, Troutman and Kaulbars Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be private. STILWELL, James Thomas, of 1455 S. Zeyn Street, Anaheim, passed away at Bakersfield after an apparent heart attack Saturday afternoon. He was 46 years of age. A native of Texas, he had lived in California for the past 22 years. Surviving is his wife Thelma, 4 sons, Jerry, Jimmy and Timothy Stilwell of Anaheim, and Earl Stilwell of Costa Mesa; 2 daughters, Janice and Judith Stilwell of Anaheim; 1 brother, Leslie Stilwell of Anaheim; 4 sisters, Mrs. J. F. Selby of Anaheim, Mrs. Birte Holmes of Fresno, Mrs. Noel Lee and Mrs. Lynn Spurlin, both of Oklahoma, and 3 grandchildren. Showers occasionally mixed with snow swept West Virginia and into New York and New England. Clearing was expected to take place in the afternoon. There was one fair weather belt reaching from the Southeast into the Great Lakes region, but in northern areas this was marred by occasional cloudiness which was expected to result in showers by nightfall. Variable cloudiness was the pattern from Texas to the West Coast with some scattered showers hitting Southern California and spreading into New Mexico by evening. A weather front pushing through the northern Rockies brought showers to Montana. In the Pacific Northwest it was mostly fair with temperatures in the 20s and 30s. Sunday at 5:15 p.m., cars driven by Jerry Jennings, 23,4221 Howard St., Los Alamitos, and by Robert Skeffington, 25, Long Beach, collided head-on on Katella Ave., just west of Maple St. in Los Alamitos. Six persons were taken to Garden Grove Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. According to the accident report, Jennings was westbound when a car in front of him came to a stop, prior to turning off a side road. In applying his brakes, Jennings swerved to the left and hit head-on with the oncoming car of Skeffington, the accident report indicates both cars were described as totally damaged. Jennings and his passenger Richard Smith, 3742 Green St., Los Alamitos, were injured. Also injured were Robert Skeffington, the other driver, and his passengers, Marie Skeffington, 21 Long Beach, William Skeffington, 23 Long Beach, and Frisco Skeffington, 18,9962 Midwood Lane Anaheim. Coast Guard said a 20-foot outboard, "Regal Bird," operated by M. Jones, a truck driver of 6620 San Ricardo Way, Buena orturned off San Pedro. Sid Ritto of Buena Park and his son Michael, 8; Jack Torrance and his sons Johnny, 13; and Michael, 15; and Al his son Philip, 13, of Garden Grove, were rescued by the nearby fishing boat. Riding to the Coast Guard, the boat occupants assembled on the deck. Then the vessel was hit by a towering wave—knocking all it. The boat was towed into harbor by the Coast Guard. No hurt. H. Latch of Sunset Beach was arrested yesterday by the Guard on suspicion of intoxication after allegedly operating a board boat in a reckless fashion in Long Beach Harbor. Latch crashed his vessel into another boat containing three No injuries were reported. The boat sank, but the trio was Coast Guard reported two other distress calls, involving Orcountians yesterday. Broken Neck Feared For Swimmer at CDM CO'RONA DEL MAR (OCNS) — A 16-year-old boy was in serious condition today after he suffered a probable broken neck in a dive off the breakwater here. Terry Steratton, 4010 N. Gary, La Verne, apparently dived off the cement breakwater, hit the rocks on the ocean floor with his head, and came up yelling. Robert J. Ball, 235 Iris Ave., Corona Del Mar, his age not given, dived in and held the youth up until lifeguards arrived. Witnesses credited Ball with saving the teenager's life. TOO BUSY TO LIVE? TB Patient Escapes From County Hospital By Orange County News Service An all points bulletin has been issued for a 62-year-old Orange laborer who early today escaped from the Orange County Hospital. Serving a one-year jail sentence for a non-support charge, Toribio R. Gusman, has been at the hospital for a month, the victim of tuberculosis. Gusman, born and raised in Orange, was sentenced to jail Feb. 20 in Santa Ana-Orange Municipal Court. He was transferred to the hospital March 5. The escapee, whose home address was reported as 9272 Batavia reportedly fled the hospital between 2 and 6 a.m. Agencies all over the state have been alerted for the escapee and have been requested to be on the look out for him.
